Chapter 1322: 609_1 Chapter 1322: 609_1 Everyone watched as the frenzied woman rushed towards a corner.
Edward’s pupils constricted as he let go of Granny Drake to grab Jobelle Callum, but he was a step too late.
“I’m going to kill you, I’m going to kill you,” the woman screamed.
It was as if the hatred that had been pent up in her chest was exploding, making everyone present feel a sense of fear.
Turns out, it’s not wise to provoke a lunatic.
What was more intriguing, though, was who had played behind the scenes, leading to the ruin of the Callums.
Perhaps the answer lay in the impending darkness, ready to be revealed.
...
With a loud thud, Jobelle Callum fell clumsily to the ground, flopping like a kite whose strings had been suddenly severed.
The crowd quickly backed off, fearful of inviting calamity upon themselves.
The darkness seemed to be filled with dangerous, wild beasts, instilling fear in everyone’s hearts.
With a gasping scream, Nichole Philbert felt her scalp tingle in fright.
As luck would have it, Jobelle Callum ended up sprawled right at her feet.
Arwin Philbert swiftly pulled Nichole behind him, his gaze locked onto the inky depths of the darkness.
Then, a young girl emerged, a doll-like face hidden behind her decisive and bold presence.
With a naive innocence in her smile, it was impossible to associate her with any kind of violence.
“Ah, sorry for the disturbance, everyone,” the girl said with a voice sweet like a lark’s song.
“This crazy woman bites people on sight, so I hope she didn’t scare you.”
The girl smiled and spoke in a pleasing, dulcet tone.
Despite her sweet voice, it made the hair on the back of everyone’s neck stand up.
From a corner, secretary Ms.
Grant squinted at the girl’s face, her gaze drifting to the shadows behind her.
But all she could see was an infinite abyss.
Security men approached Jobelle Callum, one on each side, preparing to haul her away.
With strength like she had just dredged up from nowhere, she struggled and laughed at Granny Drake, “You old hag, you’re hilarious!
You’ve conspired with outsiders against your own grandson!
Do you know who she is?”
“Get her out of here now,” Granny Drake ordered.
The glint of malicious insanity flashed in Jobelle Callum’s eyes.
In the corner, Jayden Moore held a small stone between his fingers.
The woman had spoken too much.
If he aimed well and hit her, she wouldn’t be able to say another word.
Then he heard soft whispers behind him.
“Don’t harm her,” they said.
Jayden Moore reluctantly put down the stone, thinking to himself that the mistress was too kind.
This type of person couldn’t be dealt with kindly.
Eager to spill, Jobelle Callum spat out, “She is the child of the people who killed your son, and now you’re partnering with her for profit!
You’ve dealt a death blow to my family, you vile old witch!
Do you think you’ve been fair to your dead son?
And you pretend to be so guilt-ridden all the time!
You hypocrite!
And you!”
She pointed at Edward, “You are no better!
You’ve been away from the Drake family for over a decade!
Why did you come back?
Nicholas is your cousin!
And you teamed up with outsiders to harm him!
You’re an evil person at such a young age, you’ve disgraced the Drake family!”
The crowd gasped in unison.
Those schemes and plots, laid bare so starkly by Jobelle Callum, stirred up strange feelings in everyone present.
Nichole Philbert stepped forward, shielding Edward, and pointed at Jobelle, cursing, “You’re so shameless!
When it comes to being cruel, no one can match up to you, mistress Callum!
Your family is infamous for all the unethical things you’ve done!
Do I need to list them all?
Your family’s downfall today is nothing but karma!
It’s you and your husband who’ve disgraced the Drake family!
Nicholas has nothing to do with it, don’t try to frame an innocent!”
Nichole blurted out what everyone had been thinking, not holding back her words.
“Moreover,” she continued, “Granny Drake has a great reputation across Coral Island, there’s no one better than her!
Who are you to slander her?
And, disagreements among the older generation should be dealt with by them, it has nothing to do with Nicholas!
Even if he is friends with his father’s killer’s daughter, that doesn’t prove anything!
Maybe she’s feeling guilty and wants to compensate Nicholas!
Stop trying to manipulate our morals!”
Edward looked at the small figure who had jumped in front of him to defend him.
The young lady turned around and patted her chest, “Nicholas, no one will falsely accuse you while I’m around.”
Her round eyes were crystal clear and shiny, like two stars.
Edward pursed his lips.
His dark pupils grew even deeper as he said hoarsely, “Thank you.”
“Hey, don’t be so formal between us,” the girl spoke nonchalantly.
Jobelle nearly spat blood in anger.
“You ignorant little girl…”
“I don’t want to hear anything else from you,” Nichole Philbert interjected and rained down a torrent of taunts so harsh that Jobelle wished she could just disappear into the earth.
She was so angered that she nearly had a heart attack. 𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒑𝒖𝒃.𝙘𝙤𝒎
People usually feel sympathy for the weak, but no one felt any pity for Jobelle right now.
As the saying goes, when the wall falls, everyone gives it a push.
Jobelle had been just as overbearing and despicable in the past as she was pitiful and pathetic now.
Jobelle Callum was ruthlessly taken away by security.
Her impotent rage brought a feeling of poignant regret to everyone watching.
Victory is for the winners and defeat is for the losers – it’s an eternal truth.
However, Jobelle’s words had indeed stirred up a ripple in everyone’s heart.
Jayden Drake’s mysterious death years ago and the Drake family’s secrecy around it meant that not many knew the truth.
Everyone only knew that he died in Pethkids, a place far from Coral Island.
Not many bothered to check the details, but there were vague rumours that his death was somehow connected to the biggest gang in Pethkids.
If that was true, and Edward had used this woman to bring down the Callum family, then he was not to be underestimated.
Everyone’s attention shifted to the girl, Dallyn.
Was she really that girl?
It was hard to believe.
Dallyn walked over and said, “Master Edward, Granny Drake, it’s getting late.
It’s time for me to take the mistress home.”
“I’ll take her,” Edward said with a deep voice.
“Please stay, Master Edward.
Here is where you truly belong.”
After speaking, she gave a nod to Granny Drake, and shot a playful glance at Nichole Philbert.
This girl was cute, and whether intentionally or not, she had just saved the mistress some trouble.
Nichole’s eyes twinkled.
She had thought the woman who’d been hiding in the shadows was Dallyn, but it wasn’t her.
Could it be that she was very ugly, then?
Nichole laughed and said, “Since you’re here, sister, why don’t you show yourself?
Are you shy?
Don’t be.
I’m here.
If you’re friends with Nicholas, then you’re my friend too.”
With that, she scampered towards the corner engulfed in shadows.
She knew, the woman was hiding right there.
