Chapter 352: Chapter 353: Vigilance

The husband and wife had greedily devoured the scrawny Sabertooth Beast, with their now bulging bellies causing them to belch.

"If we don’t find our son soon, I’m going to lose it. This meat is too hard to eat without any salt, cumin, or chili!"

Wen Jue silently glanced at Ye Qiao. "You ate at least half of that Sabertooth Beast just now."

Ye Qiao retaliated by slapping him on the back of his head. "Iron Tiger, can’t you be civil? So what if I ate half? Didn’t I hunt down that Sabertooth Beast?"

Decades of living with Ye Qiao had taught Wen Jue better than to respond at this point.

Just as he thought, Ye Qiao grumbled for a bit longer before sullenly mumbling, "Hmph, so boring."

Ye Qiao then turned his head and began leading the way, humming a song and enjoying the breathtaking scenery around him, in a truly upbeat mood.

Suddenly, he felt a pressure on his neck and found himself crouching down, held by Wen Jue before he could react.

Ye Qiao turned round and glared.

Wen Jue put a finger to his lips, motioning to be silent and then pointed to the distant jungle.

Ye Qiao quickly understood, holding his breath and gazing watchfully at the jungle.

Soon, rustling sounds could be heard from the jungle.

The first to enter Ye Qiao’s line of sight was Lini. He was holding about seven or eight Gugu Beasts in each hand and had a large basket on his back. His stern expression and wary eyes were more than enough to warn that he was not to be trifled with.

Shortly after, two younger females also emerged from behind him, each carrying a basket as well.

One of the females held a large white mushroom in her hand. "Look at all these mushrooms in the forest after the rain! Perfect timing, we’re almost out of our stored mushrooms. Let’s collect all the forest mushrooms now! When winter comes, we can make a soup with the Gugu Beasts, it’ll definitely be so comforting!"

The other female also looked pleasantly surprised, "Exactly, we can add some Earth Fruit into the soup too, the taste will be amazing. Thanks to the saintess, we won’t starve or freeze this winter."

The female in the front shook off the mud on her foot. "The forest path is hard to walk on after the rain. Good thing I didn’t wear... what’s it called?"

The female behind casually responded, "It’s okay, we’re almost back to the tribe. We can wash up once we get back."

Following behind the two females were five or six strong Beastmen. They were carrying a Deer-horned Beast in one hand, and each of their baskets was filled to the brim with mushrooms. They were definitely heading home with quite the haul.

Ye Qiao eyed their catch, salivating. Chicken stew with mushrooms, huh? Ah, he would love that!

Barely able to contain his restless heart, he shifted his position slightly.

The next moment, Lini halted, his keen gaze fixating on the bush where Ye Qiao hid.

Ye Qiao: "..."

He turned towards Wen Jue with a regretful look.

Seeing Lini stop, the young female immediately became wary and asked in a low voice, "What’s wrong?"

Narrowing his eyes, Lini watched the bush for a while longer before waving his hand dismissively. "It’s nothing. Let’s keep going and return to the tribe."

The group became serious, no longer chatting as they picked up speed. Their figures soon vanished from the area.

Only after ensuring they were gone did Ye Qiao stand up from the bush, brushing the dew from his Beast Skin.

"That Beastman seems quite alert. Did he discover us just now?"
