Chapter 427: Chapter 428 Eavesdropping on My Conversation

The term "head of the table" was something he had just learned from Su Tang on the way over.

So Gaiyin put his new knowledge to use immediately, looking solemnly at Hai Qin, explaining, "The head of the table is the position directly facing the door, and is also where the most important person at the table sits. It not only has a view of all the dishes on the table but also everyone present."

This explanation greatly dissolved any bit of resentment Hai Qin had initially harbored towards Gaiyin.

Very satisfied, Hai Qin nodded approvingly, his face softening a great deal.

"Well thought out. Let’s have a seat then!"

With Hai Qin leading the way, Gaiyin gave him the upper hand, and that warmed Hai Qin’s heart.

Behind Hai Qin —

Qiu Mo made a face, about to say something, but was pulled back by Xi.

Xi shook her head at her.

Pouting in dissatisfaction, Qiu Mo leaned closer to Xi and whispered, "You can see everyone from any seat, it doesn’t matter where they sit. And what’s so special about the head of the table? It’s not like my dad was fooled or something..."

Before Xi could respond,

a stifled chuckle came from behind them.

Qiu Mo turned around abruptly, only to catch a fleeting glimpse of amusement on Yadang’s face.

Her face turned crimson, clearly out of anger, "You were eavesdropping on my conversation with my brother!"

The amusement in Yadang’s face receded, though a faint smile still lingered on his lips. He slightly lifted his chin, looking down at Qiu Mo from his superior height.

"Your voice was so loud, it makes it hard for anyone not to hear you. Ask your fellow clan members if they heard you."

A furious Qiu Mo then turned to the two mermaid beastmen.

Rather awkwardly, they both quickly averted their gaze, not daring to meet Qiu Mo’s.

Yadang chuckled lightly again, shaking his head in exasperation before stepping past Qiu Mo, and strolling into the house.

Qiu Mo stared at Yadang’s retreating figure. Even though she knew he was right, she couldn’t help but feel upset!

Reaching up, Xi affectionately ruffled Qiu Mo’s hair, "Enough with your tantrums. Let’s go inside, weren’t you just craving their food?"

Taking a deep breath, Qiu Mo huffed heavily before unhurriedly making her way inside.

Inside, almost everyone was seated. 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓊𝒷.𝓬𝓸𝓂

The place of honour undisputedly went to Hai Qin; with Hanna on his left, followed by the mermaid priest and the mermaid doctor, and on his right were Gaiyin, Su Tang, and Yadang.

The mermaid doctor beckoned at them as they entered, "Xi, Amo, come sit here!"

Qiu Mo cast a disgruntled glance at Yadang, feeling somewhat resentful. Why did he get to sit furthest in!

She stared at him for a while longer, not realizing Yadang hadn’t bothered to acknowledge her with so much as a glance. This only made Qiu Mo more upset!

...

The table was so large that the eight members of the mermaid clan, along with Gaiyin, Su Tang, and Yadang, merely occupied half the space.

Gaiyin then commanded for some of the tribespeople who had significantly contributed to the tribe, such as old Nike, Rini, Red Fruit, Ma Qing, and Huang Yuan, to join them.

Even so, the massive rotatory round table was barely filled up.

Sitting upright in his chair, Hai Qin subtly nodded, the sensation of being respected felt quite nice indeed.

Moreover, the wooden table in front of him seemed rather odd, it was different from what he’d seen before. Round and two-tiered, was it designed to accommodate more dishes?

However, as a leader, even if he had no idea what it was or if he’d never seen anything like it before, he would not let his curiosity show.

Nevertheless, this mystery was soon to be unravelled.
