Chapter 524: Chapter 525: Hang in There!

White Fish didn’t return all night.

This was destined to be a sleepless night. Despite their faces turning pale from the freezing cold, every member of the Mermaid Clan still stood in the icy fields as penance for White Fish, without a word of complaint.

Upon knowing this, Su Tang’s heart softened.

She had figured out the ins and outs of the whole affair. It had all stemmed from White Fish’s harsh words upsetting Yuanyuan, who had then lashed out, unintentionally getting hurt in the process.

It was indeed a trivial matter, and she couldn’t help but blame Yuanyuan for being too impulsive.

This incident could be considered an accident, unrelated to the rest of the Mermaid Clan. Su Tang dispatched someone to discuss this matter with Hai Qin, considering that the Mermaid Clan included many females and the night could get colder than the day by more than double.

Hai Qin vehemently refused, claiming that the Mermaid Clan shared in the sweet and bitter. Though White Fish was the one at fault, if someone from the clan had hindered his insolent remarks at the start, the subsequent events wouldn’t have occurred. Therefore, they all deserved punishment!

Su Tang didn’t say anything more.

She had beast skins and hot water sent to the young females of the Mermaid Clan. Given that they all possessed superpowers, there shouldn’t be any issues.

That night, most of the tribe stayed awake.

...

At the break of dawn...

The Beastman assigned by Hai Qin to await White Fish’s return at the seaside saw two dark shadows rising from the sea surface in the distance.

He ventured forth and recognized the figures as White Fish and Dai Song, who had gone to search for the herbal antidote.

His heart filled with joy, he slapped his frostbitten face and yelled anxiously, "Did you find it?"

No one responded.

White Fish and Dai Song, their figures moving sluggishly towards the shore, kept the awaiting Mermaid Beastman on tenterhooks.

Unable to contain himself, he urged, "Can’t you move faster? I’ve been waiting here all night!"

Ignoring him, White Fish and Dai Song continued to swim leisurely towards the shore.

As they drew closer, upon seeing their current state, the Mermaid Beastman couldn’t help but gasp.

White Fish? That should be White Fish, right?

His face was white and swollen, masking his facial features; his body bloated, covered in wounds, looking like an overinflated balloon ready to burst at any moment.

Dai Song was slightly better. His body was covered in varying sizes of wounds; bite marks, punctures, scratches. His wounds had turned somewhat white from soaking, and his eyes were half open, looking as if he was about to pass out.

Dai Song was gripping the barely conscious, disfigured White Fish with one hand, and a thin, herb-like plant with the other. He swam towards the shore stiffly.

The Mermaid Beastman’s scales were raising up in fright. He dove headfirst into the sea, swimming desperately towards the two men.

A glimmer of light appeared in Dai Song’s eyes, but he didn’t have the strength to move any faster.

Finally, the Mermaid Beastman was at their side, and Dai Song felt like he could let go.

And then—

His hand was suddenly empty!

The Mermaid Beastman breathed a sigh of relief, "That scared me. Lucky I caught it." 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝒑𝙪𝒃.𝒄𝒐𝙢

As he charged ahead under the stare of Dai Song’s stiff, expressionless gaze, the Mermaid Beastman yelled in urgency, "Hang in there, Dai Song! I’ll get the herbal antidote back first and then come to rescue you. You must hang on!"

Dai Song: "..."

The half-conscious White Fish: "..."
