Chapter 530: Chapter 531: Slide
Gaiyin glowered at Valley’s retreating back, cursing himself for being so short and frail.
Just as they were almost out of the room, Gaiyin couldn’t stand it anymore and, stomping his feet in vexation, hurried after them.
In the valley—
The snow, originally not even as thick as a young boy’s calf, had been so compacted by the frequent trampling of the clanspeople, that those who were throwing snowballs and building snowmen had long since moved to a new spot with softer snow. Thus, the area around the houses had been vacated.
Valley conjured two shovels, Su Tang grabbed one with great enthusiasm, and after comparing gestures with Valley to describe the slide, they both set to work shoveling!
Yaya forgot all about his earlier displeasure and hopped around them, cheering and watching the slide take shape.
Although it was supposed to be a joint effort, Valley did most of the work, as Su Tang quickly became breathless with the effort. Yaya, on the other hand, proved quite helpful.
Consequently, Valley let her stand to the side and give directions. They built the simplest kind of straight slide, with stairs on one side to climb up, and a sheer drop to slide down.
The slide was quite tall, over three meters, and Su Tang felt dwarfed standing beneath it. The slope was gentle, extending about four or five meters, and the surrounding snow had been nearly leveled!
As they patted down the last bit of snow, Yaya couldn’t wait to scamper up the slide’s stairs.
Waving his little hand grandly, he said with a leader’s flourish, "Sister-in-law, since we made this together, doesn’t that mean it belongs to us?"
Su Tang nodded, "Yes, Yaya, you did great today! This slide belongs to Yaya; your brother and I were just helping you."
Yaya felt a surge of satisfaction.
Su Tang stood on the other side, smiling at him, "Come on down, your brother and I will catch you. Don’t be afraid!"
Yaya’s little face flushed with excitement as he stood at the top of the slide, hand on the rail, appearing quite thrilled.
Just as he was about to sit and slide down, a sudden force slammed into him, sending his bottom down onto the slide with a thud, which made Yaya grit his teeth in pain.
However, as soon as he hit the inclined surface of the slide, he ’whooshed’ right down, and by the time he realized what had happened, he had already landed!
He quickly jumped to his feet and turned around to glare fiercely at the ’culprit’ that had just bumped him off, "Stupid Erha! Get down here! You actually pushed me; wait and see if I don’t give you a thrashing!"
Erha barked triumphantly at Yaya and, with a leap, slid down the slide in a tangled heap.
Both Valley and Su Tang seamlessly stepped aside in unison.
Yaya, still too young and inexperienced, just covered his belly, laughing at Erha’s graceful slide.
And then—
"Thump!"
Both boy and dog collided solidly.
To be precise, the impact from Erha’s rapid descent knocked Yaya over, and the dog’s paws, in a panic, mercilessly scrambled over him, continuing to charge forward uncontrollably.
For some reason, its front legs suddenly gave out and Erha’s dog face plowed into the ground, but the momentum still propelled it forward.
As a result, Erha’s world-weary, droopy face slid along the ground without expression, skidding over ten meters before finally, with great difficulty, coming to a stop.
