Chapter 639: Chapter 642: Consultation

The Beastmen of The Sky Fox Clan believed that although they were at fault, they weren’t the only ones to blame. Deer Father, of Deer Island, was too ruthless — he did not even spare the newly-born cubs.

The West Ming Deer Clan believed that Chi Yu’s fire was the cause of their tribal destruction, causing an indirect death to Deer Mother. This drove Deer Father to madness, so they believed the Sky Fox Clan deserved the suffering they brought upon themselves.

The war between the two clans was on the brink of breaking out! No one was willing to concede!

Out on the grassland, the verbal disputes between the beastmen of both clans gradually escalated into physical confrontations.

Inside the cave, Jin Se lay on the stone bed, clutching the beast skin that was previously used to wrap the cub, crying uncontrollably.

Chi Yu stood by the side with Chi Yan, his eyes dazed and emotionless.

Waerde threatened, "I told you he was an evil omen! I wanted to kill him back then, but you wouldn’t let me. Look where we are now, even the innocent cub has been harmed because of him!"

With each word uttered by Waerde, Jin Se’s cries grew even more sorrowful.

Suo Long, his eyes red and swollen, said, "Father! Can’t you just stop! This has nothing to do with Ayu! The conflict between the tribes has been brewing for a long time, and it’s only erupted in advance now."

Waerde, panting heavily, gripped his wooden stick and slammed it onto the ground a few times before glaring at Chi Yu and Chi Yan.

"Go on, keep protecting him. He will eventually bring disaster to our tribe!"

With that, Waerde stormed out of the cave.

Chi Yu’s hands clenched into fists as his small body trembled uncontrollably.

Suo Long and Jin Se were both immersed in grief, too distraught to pay attention to his emotions.

Chi Yu stood there for a very long time, before finally making up his mind.

He took a deep breath, pushed Chi Yan to Suo Long’s side, and said solemnly, "Uncle, this is all my fault. I’ll go find the chief of the Ming Deer Clan and exchange myself for the cub. Please take care of Ayan from now on."

Suo Long, wiping tears from the corners of his eyes, said harshly, "Stop talking nonsense! Are you trying to cause more trouble for your uncle?"

Chi Yu lowered his head, remaining silent.

The young Chi Yan puckered his lips, toddled over with his short legs, and hugged Jin Se’s leg tightly, saying in a soft voice, "Auntie, scared, Auntie, hug~"

Jin Se bent down and picked up Chi Yan, pressing him tightly against her chest as she burst into tears.

Chi Yan was affected by her emotions and started crying as well.

Suo Long’s eyes welled up again. He squatted down, his eyes level with Chi Yu’s as he tightly gripped his shoulders.

"Ayu, don’t listen to your grandfather’s nonsense. He’s just too heartbroken. This matter has nothing to do with you. Listen to your uncle’s words, get some sleep now, and when you wake up everything will be back to normal, alright?"

Chi Yu didn’t respond. He just stared hard at Suo Long, his gaze seeming to show that he understood everything.

Suo Long didn’t say anything more, patting Chi Yu’s shoulder before standing up and leaving the cave.

Chi Yu didn’t follow. For a moment, he felt as if something had broken through from his heart—he felt like he had suddenly grown up.

The warfare between the two clans had escalated, leading to numerous casualties on both sides.

Both tribes were in disarray. Once the chiefs had settled their internal matters, they came out to discuss a resolution together.

Since nobody from either of the clans was able to let go of their grudges, it was decided that they would draw a clear line between them and would not interfere with each other from then on.
