Chapter 691: Chapter 695: A Good Show 2
He pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation, struggling to find an explanation as another female walked in from the distance.
In contrast to the first two females, this one appeared more stable and dignified. She had neatly pulled her hair back with a branch, unlike the other two who had their hair loosely spread across their backs.
The first female seemed flamboyant yet shrewd, and the second was provocative yet enchanting. They both didn’t seem too clever.
How could he describe it in words?
If Liao Li could be compared to an ancient emperor, then the first two females could be likened to indulged imperial concubines, whereas this female possessed an air of authority akin to that of the Empress Dowager.
The two females by Liao Li seemed all too eager to stay close to him. However, upon the arrival of the third female, they seemed to concede, appearing rather fearful of her.
Scratching her head, Su Tang couldn’t identify anything peculiar about this female that would warrant such fear. What could the other two females possibly be afraid of?
The female strolled up to the open space and gave a courteous bow to Liao Li. She gave a gentle smile and said, "Queque told me that the Young Master of the Mermaids was visiting, so I thought I’d come to have a look. I didn’t expect it to be so lively here."
Her lips curled upwards, but her eyes were void of warmth as her sharp gaze scanned over the two females next to Liao Li.
The two females immediately lowered their heads, as still as quails, afraid to make the slightest move.
Such was the intrigue that Su Tang lost interest in her food. Full of curiosity, she squatted on her stool to closely observe this outstanding female.
Gaiyin quickly pulled her back down, "Sit properly, don’t fall."
"How could I fall from such a wide stool," Su Tang replied dismissively, "Besides, you’re here, aren’t you?"
Gaiyin silently curled his lip upward with a smile, "Behave. Sit properly."
Reluctantly, Su Tang crossed her legs and sat down.
When she looked back up, it seemed as though the female’s gaze had just shifted away from her.
Su Tang blinked her eyes. Was it just her imagination?
Liao Li’s face didn’t look too good, a frown adorning his forehead. He said to the female, "What on earth are you up to? Look how frightened they are. Can’t you communicate properly?"
With a soft chuckle, a hint of disdain flashed across the female’s eyes. "I don’t believe I said anything. Don’t accuse me unfairly, my Lord."
Liao Li’s face darkened, "You know what I’m talking about."
With hands resting gently on her belly, the female leaned slightly forward, her tone solemn, "I really have no idea."
Liao Li, now truly agitated, stood abruptly from his seat. He glared darkly at the female, his chest rising and falling rapidly.
Standing there calm and composed, she kept her gaze lowered, a slight hint of amusement etched on her face as she watched Liao Li.
For some reason, Su Tang could sense an intense air of confrontation between the two.
The next moment, it seemed as though Liao Li had accepted defeat. With a sneering grunt, he stormed off angrily, his robes flapping dramatically.
The two females trailed after him with their heads lowered. The Xuanjia beastmen glanced at each other in silence before also rising to leave.
That left only Su Tang and her companions in the company of the female, who still wore a calm smile on her face. Now, Su Tang understood the phrase, ’as long as I am not embarrassed, then it is you who are’.
Just as Su Tang was contemplating if she should break the ice and say something, the female abruptly turned around.
Giving a gentle nod to Xi, she said with a faint smile, "Young Master of the Mermaids, it’s been a long time."
"Are these your friends?" She glanced at Su Tang and the others, resting her gaze on Su Tang.
Caught off guard, Su Tang didn’t quite understand, but noticing the female smiling at her she instinctively returned the friendly expression.
Seeing this, the female’s face lit up even more, "Your friends are very good-looking."
Xi, having been singled out, managed a strained smile as he stood up, "They are close friends of mine. Thank you, Madame Maya, for the compliment."
"Hmm." Maya looked at Su Tang for a while longer, her lips curling up in satisfaction, "Continue your meal then, I won’t interrupt you."
With that, Maya turned and left elegantly.
Xi heaved a sigh of relief.
Caught in confusion, Su Tang asked, "Why do you look like you’re afraid of her? She seems pretty friendly to me?"
Xi didn’t immediately answer her. Turning to the little females who were serving them, he gestured, "You may all go now, your services are not needed here."
"Yes."
The servers bowed respectfully and silently withdrew.
Once they were gone, Xi sat back down, took a sip of water to calm his nerves, and began explaining.
"That female is called Maya, the former saintess of the Vermilion Bird Clan. After her clan was slaughtered, she was forced to stay by Liao Li’s side due to her beauty. She later bore him a cub named Baique."
"According to my father, Liao Li liked to collect beautiful young females when he was younger and Maya tried to dissuade him to no avail. Then she focused on her cultivation and became the first Level 9 Divine Brave Warrior of the Ten Thousands Beast Country."
"No one knows what actually happened, but Liao Li curbed his behavior significantly. The number of females around him decreased too, and the number of cubs dwindled from many to just five."
"Everyone knows that Maya had a part to play in the disappearance of those females and cubs, but no one was able to prove that it was Maya’s doing."
"In any case, that female is very dangerous. Everyone should avoid encountering her as much as possible, the farther you are from her, the better."
After hearing Xi’s description, Su Tang was strangely reminded of the reigning queen she had read about in novels. Deep scheming, strategic, and manipulative.
Wow!
This was what a real powerhouse looked like!
Su Tang considered herself rather purile. Perhaps compared to this female, Su Tang’s cleverness was simply insignificant.
Feeling scared, she decided to steer clear of Maya in the future.
After wolfing down a few mouthfuls of food to fill their stomachs, they left the area.
Once they returned to their quarters and ensured no one was spying on them, Xi slumped back and related everything he had seen underground.
"Have they all gone mad? What will happen to this Kingdom if the citizens discovered the truth?" Yadang expressed his confusion.
Gaiyin’s face was equally somber, "In their eyes, these citizens are nothing. Obtaining what they want from the Wood Immortal Mansion is what’s most important."
Unable to contain the anger rising within her, Su Tang slapped a hand down on the table, "They’re not human! Have they ever thought about the trauma this would inflict on the young cubs? This could ruin them for life! How is this different from killing all these cubs right now?!"
Xi let out a sigh.
