Chapter 68: Zhang Shaoqing’s Troubles

Wen Yang tidied up his appearance, doing his best to conceal what had just happened.

Thankfully, the interruption had defused his earlier situation; otherwise, he would have had a hard time facing anyone right now.

He opened the dorm door and looked up to see a graceful woman standing outside, dressed in a form-fitting qipao. Her smile was gentle and refined.

The qipao accentuated her figure—her ample chest, narrow waist, and full hips combined to form an almost perfect S-shaped curve. Her well-made-up face made her look no older than her early thirties, exuding a mature, elegant charm.

But Wen Yang’s mind was still full of Ning Chu, and he was a little annoyed that this woman had interrupted his moment with her.

He had just convinced Ning Chu to kiss him on her own initiative!

With a glance, he curiously asked, “Who are you?”

“I’m Zhang Shaoqing’s mother, Zhang Shuyi.”

Wen Yang had imagined Zhang Shaoqing’s overly controlling mother as a sharp, strict woman, but this calm and composed figure standing before him was not what he expected.

“Oh, hello, Auntie.”

“...” Zhang Shuyi’s expression faltered briefly but quickly returned to her warm smile. “I’m looking for Shaoqing. Where is he?”

Recalling Zhang Shaoqing’s instructions before he left, Wen Yang shook his head, pretending to be clueless. “I think he went out. Maybe try checking somewhere else?”

All Wen Yang wanted was for her to leave quickly so he could return to the previous intimate atmosphere with Ning Chu. Just thinking about that sweet taste...

However, Zhang Shuyi stepped into the dorm, frowning slightly as she scanned the room. Her gaze eventually fell on Ning Chu, who was standing out on the balcony.

“Why is there a girl in the dorm?”

Wen Yang froze for a moment before quickly explaining, “He’s a guy. Just happens to be pretty.”

A guy?

Through the balcony window, Zhang Shuyi observed Ning Chu. At that moment, Ning Chu was wearing a loose jacket, her already modest chest completely hidden beneath the fabric, but her jeans hugged her legs, making her petite frame seem long and slender.

She had just washed her face and, noticing Zhang Shuyi watching her through the glass, nervously offered a polite smile.

Zhang Shuyi eyed Ning Chu up and down, thinking to herself that this was unmistakably a young girl.

“He’s really a guy?”

“Auntie, I promise he is.”

Zhang Shuyi frowned slightly and turned toward Zhang Shaoqing’s messy desk. She began tidying it up as she asked, “He’s not answering his phone, and now he’s not in the dorm either. Do you think something’s happened to him?”

“Auntie, he’s a grown man. What could possibly happen to him?” Wen Yang reassured her. “He left this morning. He’s probably just out having fun somewhere.”

“I haven’t been able to reach him for days... Did he say anything before he left?”

“Nope.”

After cleaning up her son’s desk, Zhang Shuyi paced the room anxiously before leaving in a rush.

As the door closed, Wen Yang let out a sigh of relief and turned to Ning Chu, who had just come back inside. He looked at her expectantly.

“Shall we continue?”

“Get lost!”

Ning Chu’s face flushed with a red hue. She shot him a glare and sat down at her desk, stretching. “Was that really Shaoqing’s mom?”

“Yep. She seemed pretty easygoing. I don’t know why Shaoqing’s avoiding her.”

Since the novel didn’t delve much into Zhang Shaoqing’s family background, Ning Chu could only speculate. “Maybe she hits him or something?”

“You’ve seen Zhang Shaoqing. If she hit him, wouldn’t he just hit back or run off?”

“True...”

Ning Chu rested her chin in her hand, her expression growing concerned.

Could this be the trigger that turns Zhang Shaoqing into the villain from the novel?

That cocky, shameless attitude of his might be annoying, but it was better than becoming a criminal who harmed girls...

Seeing the worry on her face, Wen Yang knew that her meddlesome nature was kicking in again. “This is Shaoqing’s family business. Maybe we should stay out of it?”

“I’m just a little concerned...”

“You always worry about these things,” Wen Yang said, leaning against the wardrobe, looking down at Ning Chu’s profile. “For all we know, he’ll just have a drink and be fine.”

“Let’s hope so,” Ning Chu muttered. “Why does Zhang Shaoqing always have so many problems?”

Look at Wang Jie, for instance—he was so easygoing. He just stayed glued to his computer all day, was reliable, and even had a cute girlfriend. He never caused her any trouble.

After a few moments of reflection, she reluctantly decided not to interfere.

Even the wisest officials struggled to judge family disputes—so what could she do?

Ning Chu raised her head and noticed Wen Yang still standing next to her. “Why are you still hovering around?”

Wen Yang didn’t say anything, but his eyes were glued to her lips. She felt her face heat up as she glared at him. “Enough already! Go play your game!”

Just a moment ago, she had been kissing him in a daze, but now that things had calmed down, she was giving him the cold shoulder. 𝖓𝔬𝔳𝔭𝖚𝖇.𝔠𝔬𝖒

“Alright then. Duo queue?”

“And don’t bring up the novel again!”

“I won’t, I won’t.”

As Wen Yang walked away, Ning Chu let out a troubled sigh.

Being with Wen Yang was enjoyable, but there were always these little headaches and complications getting in the way.

Zhang Shaoqing’s family matters were something he’d have to resolve himself. Ning Chu didn’t even know if there was anything she could do...

Just as she was about to start her game, the dorm door swung open again.

Both Ning Chu and Wen Yang turned to see Zhang Shaoqing sneak back in.

“Was my mom here just now?”

“Yeah.”

“You didn’t sell me out, did you?”

Wen Yang rolled his eyes. “Do I look like that kind of person?”

“Good. I’m just grabbing a couple of clothes. I’ll be crashing with Wang Jie tonight.”

Ning Chu couldn’t help but ask, “Hey! Are you alright?”

“I’m fine. I’m just hiding out for a while. It’s my mom who’s stressed out, not me.”

Zhang Shaoqing gave Ning Chu a carefree smile before teasing, “What’s up? Can’t resist sticking your nose into other people’s business again?”

“Relax, I’ve got everything under control!” He puffed out his chest confidently. “I’ll keep avoiding my mom until she can’t take it anymore and gives in.”

“I’m a grown adult in college, but my mom still treats me like I’m three years old. It’s driving me crazy.”

“She even wants to set me up for an arranged marriage! I’m only eighteen! I’m still a kid! I haven’t had my fun yet, and she’s already trying to push me into the grave. Can you believe it? What kind of heartless mother still does arranged marriages in this day and age?!”

He continued to grumble, quickly packed up his clothes, and then dashed out the door.

Ning Chu stared blankly after him, a little bewildered as she turned to Wen Yang and asked, “How is he an adult one minute and a child the next?”

“Physically an adult, but still a kid at heart?”

“What a mess...”

Ning Chu muttered to herself, but seeing that Zhang Shaoqing seemed fine, she finally relaxed.

As long as he didn’t turn into a villain, she wouldn’t meddle in his affairs.

Wait a minute! Zhang Shaoqing and Wang Jie were staying at a hotel together! That meant she and Wen Yang would be alone in the dorm all weekend!

Suddenly, the word "Danger" flashed in her mind.
