Chapter 444: Chapter 434: Show Off (Extra for Xiaoxiao66)

Before the start of the term at Agricultural University, Shen Yunfang had already sent the kids to the daycare. Because of the last scuffle, Pangpang was now a veritable bully there. Of course, aside from his superhero strength, Pangpang’s personal charm was limitless. In no time, he had attracted the children who feared him back to his side, so the siblings were having a whale of a time at the daycare.

Shen Yunfang was doing pretty well, too. After sending the kids off to school, it was her turn to start the term.

This semester’s course load was heavier; all the students were studying so hard they practically forgot to sleep and eat. Under the pressure of these classes, Shen Yunfang’s English lessons had temporarily vanished from the stage of history, and she was finally spared the frequent, dark-of-night runs to the campus.

Of course, not everything went smoothly.

After the semester began, Dai Zhifei from class five got a wild hair and started bothering her again. Previously, he just loitered around her, but this term she actually received a letter from him, inside which was a Shakespearean poem.

Shen Yunfang only read the first few lines before she couldn’t stand it anymore and crumpled the letter into a ball, tossing it into the trash can. Forgive her for being vulgar, but she really couldn’t stand this sort of sickly-sweet affectation.

Besides, her own Li Hongjun was a hundred, no, a thousand times better than Dai Zhifei in every way. She would have to be out of her mind to flirt with such a sissy.

However, she felt that making a big deal out of rejecting him would definitely blow things out of proportion, so she dealt with the letter herself, hoping Dai Zhifei would be perceptive enough to understand her message and stop bothering her in the future.

That day, after school, Shen Yunfang went to pick up Pangpang and Manman to take them home.

Upon arrival at the daycare, she was informed that there would be a parent-teacher meeting on Saturday at five in the afternoon, and all parents were expected to attend unless there were special circumstances.

"Did the teacher say what it’s about?" Shen Yunfang asked the children while riding her bike.

"The teacher didn’t say, but I know what it is," Pangpang shouted from the back seat.

"Oh, you’re so capable, huh? Then tell me, what’s the meeting about? Is it because you’ve been naughty in class again, and they want to talk to Mommy?" Shen Yunfang teased.

"It’s not that at all. I’ve been good in class. I even help the teacher maintain discipline. A lot of kids won’t listen to the teacher, but they listen to me," Pangpang proclaimed, puffing out his little chest unconsciously.

"Yup, brother is good, and Manman is good too," Manman chimed in from the front, nodding her head emphatically with each word.

Manman was now two years old and spoke quite fluently. However, it seemed she was naturally tongued-tied, making her articulation not that clear. But her babbling speech had a certain cuteness to it.

Shen Yunfang had even taken her to a major hospital to have it checked out, where the specialists assured her that it wasn’t a serious issue and didn’t require treatment. Some children simply exhibit this phenomenon when they’re young, and as they grow older, their speech becomes clearer. With the doctor’s diagnosis, she felt relieved. Looking at her own Manman, round and plump all over and speaking with an indistinct accent, the girl was simply too adorable.

"Hehe, is that so? Our Manman is a good child too, huh? Then who is it that argues with Mommy every day about sleeping in a little longer and not getting out of bed?" Shen Yunfang was referring to her own little lazybones.

"Mm-hmm, Manman’s sleepy." Manman, feeling embarrassed, covered her little face. Was she really not getting enough sleep?

"Haha, you’re just our family’s little lazy pig," Shen Yunfang teased her.

"Mom, you and sister are getting off-topic again. Weren’t you just asking me about the parent-teacher conference?" Pangpang sat in the back feeling helpless; one after another, they gave him such a headache.

"Right, hurry up, just tell us what it is?" Shen Yunfang also remembered.

Pangpang, swinging his little legs, said, "The teacher wanted to talk about our class promotion. I overheard the teacher talking about it, you know!"

Shen Yunfang thought to herself and realized that was the issue at hand.

It made sense, her Pangpang was three and a half years old now, and kids his age should be going to kindergarten by now. Shen Yunfang wasn’t sure how these things were categorized these days. However, in the future, very young children would go to daycare centers; once they grew a bit older to around three, they would begin kindergarten. Daycare centers merely looked after children, entertaining them with games and such, without teaching them anything genuinely useful. Kindergartens, on the other hand, were a step up from daycare centers, and good ones would start teaching children simple characters or arithmetic.

"Oh, I see, that makes sense. This is a good thing— it means Pangpang is growing up. He’s a big kid now."

Pangpang felt proud upon hearing his mother’s words, straightening himself up like a little peacock. All kids love being praised by adults for being big kids now.

The three of them chatted and laughed on their way home, and from a distance, Shen Yunfang spotted someone standing by the stairwell. Upon closer inspection, she frowned.

"What are you doing here?" Shen Yunfang asked with disdain in her voice.

"Hehe, don’t be so tense, I’m not here to ask you for money today," said Shen Yunxiu, blocking the way with her body as soon as she saw the person she was looking for had returned.

"That’s a relief." Shen Yunfang didn’t want to deal with her. "If you have something to say, say it. If not, stop pestering me." It’s so annoying, don’t you understand?

"Hmph, you think I’m dying to see you?" Shen Yunfang always had a way of irritating her with just a few words.

"The less you care, the better. Move aside, a good dog doesn’t block the path," said Shen Yunfang coldly.

"You—humph, I won’t lower myself to your level." Shen Yunxiu wanted to lose her temper, but remembering her purpose for coming today, she managed to suppress her anger and then said smugly, "I came with good intentions today. My Chengjian has been admitted to a university, to Capital University, no less, and this week we want to invite a few relatives and friends over for a meal to celebrate. If it weren’t for you absolutely refusing to lend us your house, my Chengjian wouldn’t have been able to study so hard and might not have been admitted to university. Life is unpredictable, who would have thought this would be the outcome? But being the bigger person, I want to invite you, my ’benefactor,’ to join us for a meal. Of course, if you’re busy, I won’t insist." She spread her hands at the end, indicating she was not forcing the issue.

In fact, this invitation had already been done and dusted ever since Chengjian received his admission notice; her coming here today was just to show off to Shen Yunfang. You look down on me, don’t you? You wouldn’t lend me your house, would you? Now that my man has been admitted to university, even if you come crawling to lend me your house, I’d have to think it over.

Of course, she had accurately gauged Shen Yunfang’s character and knew for sure she wouldn’t attend the dinner; that’s why she was so brazenly showing off.
