Chapter 523: Chapter 513 As I Wish
After dividing the money, Shen Yunfang had a suggestion for Sister Li’s family and Dashuan’s family: it was unlikely that they would spend all the money if left at home. Surely, they would find a place to hide it, so why not take some out to buy a property in the Capital.
Even though they couldn’t move there right now, the value of property was sure to increase over time. It was certain that to buy now would mean no loss.
Shen Yunfang’s suggestion was purely for their own good. Currently, properties in the Capital were as cheap as cabbage. Buying now was making money, earning hundreds or thousands of times more than the interest accrued in the bank.
Li Xianglian and her husband now agreed with whatever their sister-in-law said, and besides, the couple had been discussing what Yunfang told them a few days ago. If they went back and Qiu Shuping really came to their house causing trouble for money, what could they do? Thinking it over, they realized they couldn’t do anything. Although Shuping didn’t act like a mother should, as her children, they could only avoid acting like her, ready to confront heaven itself; what else could they do, hit or scold her? Of course, Liu Jianjun, as their son-in-law, could lose his temper, but he was not that kind of person. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have become part of the Li family. Therefore, upon hearing Yunfang’s suggestion, they agreed without a second thought and handed over the freshly received money to her, treating it as if it were a hot potato.
"What’s this, sister and brother-in-law, are you giving me all this money to buy the house for you? Don’t you need to keep some?" Shen Yunfang patted the bag containing the money. This amount was enough to buy a decent property in the Capital now. If they encountered someone eager to sell, much like when her own house was bought, they might even afford two. Of course, if they were to look in the more remote areas, perhaps in what would later be the fifth ring, it might even be possible to buy three.
"No need, just keep it all with you. We still have quite a lot left from last year’s earnings, enough for our expenses," said Li Xianglian.
Last year, after repaying her younger siblings a few hundred yuan, Xianglian returned home and covertly paid off all the debts during the year. With three to four hundred yuan left, they had enough for several years in the countryside without working.
"Okay, then I’ll hold onto the money for now. If I find a suitable house, I will buy it for you. If I don’t, I’ll find an opportunity to deposit it into the bank for you, as keeping so much cash at home is not safe," Shen Yunfang didn’t refuse, and she accepted the money straightaway.
It was quite a bundle of over four thousand yuan. Even though there were already hundred yuan notes in circulation, they were not very common in the market. Selling goods for half a month, they had hardly received any.
Dashuan’s wife, watching the interaction between the two sisters-in-law, hesitated somewhat. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Yunfang, but rather that she couldn’t bear the thought of parting with the money so soon after receiving it to buy a house.
Moreover, although she liked the big city, she had never considered moving to the Capital to live. Thus, she thought it better to use the money to build some houses back in her hometown rather than buy a property here.
How could Shen Yunfang fail to notice her hesitation? She didn’t press the issue.
"Everyone’s tired after a long day. Go back to your rooms and get some rest. Later, we’ll get together to make dumplings," she said, turning towards Ma Liguo and his family. "Don’t you also need to stop by the elderly’s place?
"Yes, once this is all settled, we will go to my father-in-law’s home to eat dumplings." Ma Liguo’s hometown was in the countryside, but Mu Huazhen’s family were locals. So, aside from taking his wife and kids to his hometown for the New Year, the rest of the time spent in the Capital was at his father-in-law’s.
"Alright, then we won’t keep you any longer," Shen Yunfang said unceremoniously as she saw her guests off.
Once the family of three, Ma Liguo’s, left, the adults gathered their children to come back. They were going to stay up late that night, so now was a good time to catch up on some sleep.
Then each family went back to their own homes to rest.
After Dashuan’s wife entered the east room, she seemed preoccupied, with the family of four lying in bed. Once the children had fallen asleep, she nudged Dashuan beside her, "Hey, do you think we should also buy a house in the Capital?" Seeing Sister Li taking out so much money to buy a house made her hesitate.
Dashuan opened his eyes and looked at his wife, "If you’re willing to spend the money, I think it wouldn’t hurt to buy a set in the Capital as well. Property is always valuable, once bought it’s ours, and you can’t lose." Dashuan had some ideas of his own.
Before coming to the Capital, he had thought that their hometown county was quite nice. Although he hadn’t shared this with anyone, he harbored an ambition to work hard so that one day he could move to the county with his wife and children to live a better life. But now, after having visited the Capital, his perspective had broadened. He found the Capital to be truly wonderful, far better than his hometown county.
"Then why didn’t you say so earlier?" Dashuan’s wife complained.
"Ha, you’re holding the purse strings so tight, how could I dare to? If I had said it, wouldn’t you have gotten mad at me?" Dashuan knew his wife’s way of thinking. They had been accustomed to hard times. When Xiaojuan was little, life was so difficult they had to stretch every penny. Even after their circumstances improved, his wife was still not one to spend freely.
"What nonsense are you talking about? Am I that kind of person?" Dashuan’s wife gave him a disgruntled look, but she also had her own thoughts, "Still, we’re not planning to move here. What’s the use of buying a house here? I think we’re better off going back home and building a house. Staying close to what we own, to the land, is better than buying a house here."
Dashuan thought about what his wife had said, which made some sense. Even though he had his own desires, he knew it was certainly not possible in the short term. Thus, building a house back home was what they needed to consider at this stage.
"How about we do this? We’ll leave three thousand RMB here for Yunfang to keep an eye out for us. If she finds something suitable, she can buy it for us. If not, we can always decide later. The rest of the money can be taken back and it’s enough to build a house back home. What do you think?" Dashuan proposed a compromise.
Excluding the capital, they had earned about four thousand RMB in half a month. Leaving these three thousand here and using the remaining one thousand back home would be more than enough to build three large tiled houses.
Dashuan’s wife wanted to say that leaving three thousand might be too much since Yunfang only spent two thousand on her house, but then she thought that house buying wasn’t something you could be certain about—it depended on luck and the amount could vary greatly. Besides, she trusted Yunfang who she knew wouldn’t take advantage of her over such a small amount of money.
"Alright, I’ll go and mention it to Yunfang in a bit." 𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙥𝒖𝒃.𝙘𝙤𝒎
Dashuan’s wife was a woman of action; having already discussed it with Dashuan, she grabbed the purse, counted out three thousand, put on her shoes, and set off to find Yunfang.
Shen Yunfang was dozing off in the main room when she felt someone enter and instinctively opened her eyes.
"Yunfang, are you asleep?" Dashuan’s wife entered the main room and saw that the mother and daughters were all lying on the bed; unsure if they were asleep, she called out softly.
