Chapter 608: Chapter 598: Daughter-in-law, aren’t you curious about what my mother said?

The first day of the Chinese New Year, the couple hadn’t gotten out of bed yet when Pangpang and Manman came in to cause trouble.

Their purpose was to get red envelopes, and Li Hongjun had no choice but to give each of them a big red envelope, which finally prevented his daughter from flipping off his blanket. He and his wife had fought three hundred rounds last night, and they were still naked now, so if his daughter really did flip his blanket, he would be embarrassed.

Shen Yunfang lay on her pillow, laughing for a long time. She had never seen a dad pushed to this extent by his own daughter.

"Alright, stop laughing, and get up quickly. If those two little ancestors come back again, I won’t have any red envelopes left," Li Hongjun said with a laugh as he patted his wife’s smooth and elastic buttocks, remembering last night’s battle. He couldn’t take it anymore and hurriedly pulled the blanket over her to cover her up.

"Deserved, I reminded you several times to lock the door, but you wouldn’t listen. Let your daughter see what her dad looks like with a bare butt," Shen Yunfang laughed cheekily.

"You’re a family-wrecking woman, still looking for a spanking, huh?" Li Hongjun said, annoyed, as he reached under the blanket again.

The two of them played nervously under the blanket for a while, nearly reigniting the fire before quickly getting up to get dressed.

The family of five had a simple breakfast and then headed over to the quadrangle.

Upon arrival, they found that Li’s older sister’s family and Dashuan’s family were already up, having finished breakfast. Li Xianglian was sitting in the room waiting for Li Hongjun.

"I’ve gathered the items; they’re all daily necessities. I don’t even know what’s allowed to be sent there. While you visit this time, ask around and see if there’s anything lacking. Next time you go, you can prepare in advance," Shen Yunfang had packed a bag of daily necessities at home, since her siblings were certain to visit Qiu Shuping. It wouldn’t look good if she sulked or anything like that. It was better to be generous and prepare some inexpensive things to earn a good reputation for herself.

Li Hongjun had seen his wife gathering items before leaving, but he hadn’t realized that these were for his own mother. His heart was truly touched.

Li Xianglian was deeply moved by her sister-in-law’s actions.

"Yunfang, I know you’re good-hearted. My mother is just like that, and now she has reaped what she sowed. Don’t hold it against her anymore," Li Xianglian said, having learned about the events in the Capital after her father went back and discovering why her mother and brother had been arrested and sentenced. Although she repeatedly cursed that her mother and brother deserved it, her heart wasn’t hard enough, and she started to worry about her mother after being kept busy these past few days. However, she didn’t dare to tell her sister-in-law, so she secretly discussed it with her second brother after he returned, not expecting her sister-in-law to be so magnanimous and even prepare things for her mother.

"Big sister, no matter what, she is Hongjun’s biological mother. Even if I’m angry, there’s nothing I can do but accept it. Besides, as you said, she’s already facing the consequences of her actions. I’m doing all this for Hongjun’s sake as well." Indeed, if not for Li Hongjun, how would she know who Qiu Shuping was?

"Okay, it’s getting late, you two should hurry along. Go early and return early."

So Li Hongjun rode his bicycle with Li Xianglian off on their journey.

Shen Yunfang didn’t have anything specific to do, so she stayed in the quadrangle with the kids, chatting with Dashuan’s wife about the situation back in their hometown regarding land distribution, and when there was nothing else to do, she went to clean the main house, making it available for the kids to take a nap in at noon.

It wasn’t until after four in the afternoon, when it had already turned dark outside, that Li Hongjun and his sister returned.

Upon seeing their faces, Shen Yunfang knew for sure they had been scolded quite a bit, so she didn’t ask for details and instead started to prepare the meal directly. Everyone had been waiting to eat until they came back, so they could have dinner together.

On the first day of the New Year, the few men at the table were still toasting and drinking merrily.

The women were chatting and speaking amongst themselves, but everyone could tell that Li Xianglian was in a bad mood, so when she remained silent, nobody disturbed her.

After dinner, as Li Hongjun and his family of five strolled back home, he finally opened up and asked, "Wife, aren’t you curious about how it went today when my sister and I visited our mom, and how she reacted?" Li Hongjun saw his two children running ahead with Taxue, so he deliberately slowed his pace and moved closer to his wife to ask.

Truth be told, he was also in a very bad mood after seeing his mother today, but as a man, he had to maintain a cheerful facade in front of others, regardless of how upset he was inside. However, now that it was just his own family, he couldn’t help but want to talk to his wife about it. 𝑛𝘰𝑣𝘱𝑢𝑏.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Shen Yunfang glanced at him, then her expression turned serious, and in a shrill voice she said, "My goodness, my life is truly bitter. To think that my own son and daughter-in-law have done this to me, I don’t want to live anymore. Oh Lord, open your eyes and strike down those unworthy creatures with lightning."

After whispering her tirade, she feigned a crying tone, "My life is so wretched, I brought up my son through all the hardships, and now that he has a wife, he’s forgotten about his mother. Now my daughter-in-law has turned against me like this, I can’t go on living, just let me die."

Li Hongjun was left speechless by his wife’s act, then without saying a word, he took her hand and walked briskly forward.

Shen Yunfang let herself be pulled along, but eventually couldn’t hold back her laughter, which started softly and grew louder, turning Li Hongjun’s face dark as coal.

It wasn’t until they got home that Li Hongjun told the children to watch TV properly in the living room, saying he needed to talk to their mother. Then he pulled his still-laughing wife into the room, having learned his lesson, he immediately locked the door behind them.

He flung his wife onto the bed with a swing of his arm, and then he threw himself onto her...

After they chuckled and tussled in silence for a while, they finally calmed down, lying side by side on the bed, catching their breath.

"What did your mom demand today?" Shen Yunfang was pretty sure that what she had imitated on the way home was close to the truth. Otherwise, Li Hongjun wouldn’t have been so angrily embarrassed. But she was curious since the Li siblings had gone to see Qiu Shuping, and knowing her character, she must have made some unreasonable demands.

Li Hongjun didn’t speak at first, but later he sighed and spilled the beans, "My mom said she’s suffering too much in there, and that my years served as a soldier have all been in vain. She told me to find a way to get her out." His wife’s guesses were right. The moment his mother saw them, the look in her eyes was filled with spite. She clearly resented them both. After a bout of scolding and seeing their silence, she began to wail. What the wife had mimicked was indeed very close to the actual situation, except that it had been more eloquent. His mother had been utterly unrestrained, and even the thought of it made his face darken.

It was the prison guard who noted that visiting time was almost over and came to take Qiu Shuping back. That’s when she shouted out her demands.

"Li Hongjun, if you still recognise me as your mother, then hurry up and find a way to get both me and your brother out of here. The reason your brother and I ended up in this situation is all because of your vicious wife, so you must take responsibility. If you abandon us now, you’ll be heartless. I’ll go to the army and complain about you. If I’m not okay, no one will be. Also, once I’m out, you must divorce that poisoness. I’ll make sure she gets nothing from the Li family, not a single penny," she demanded.
