Chapter 693: Chapter 683 Shen Yunfeng’s Gossip
"Oh, I really didn’t know about that." Shen Yunfang truly hadn’t heard this piece of news on her trip back.
It was probably difficult for Old Shen to discuss such gossip, and with Dashuan’s wife not at Old Wang’s home, the news got delayed, didn’t it?
"Hehe, you don’t know, huh? This thing is really funny." Jian Hui perked up upon learning that Shen Yunfang was unaware.
"You know about Shen Yunfeng’s affair, right?"
Shen Yunfang nodded; this she did know.
"Back then, it was big news in our county, caused quite a stir. You know, there are only a few people at our procurement station. After her incident, many people came to ask me about it. How would I know anything about it? I didn’t catch her in bed. But nobody believed me and insisted I tell them. I had no choice but to share the rumors I’d heard. You wouldn’t believe it, our station became so popular then and I was swamped with all the inquiries." Jian Hui entered into her mode of endless chatter, her facial expressions equally on point as her non-stop talking.
"Later, it turned into such a big deal. I heard your cousin’s husband and Shen Yunfeng were getting a divorce. I thought after such an embarrassing situation, Shen Yunfeng would be too ashamed to strut around. But some people just have no shame at all. A few days later, she showed up for work again."
"Just think, with such a reputation, working with her was dragging my own name through the mud," Jian Hui said indignantly about the situation back then. Working the same shift as such an indecent woman, others who didn’t know any better might think the same of her as well.
"I went home and reported the situation to Old Xing immediately. I have a family and a livelihood; I can’t let her ruin that for me. My son still needs to go to school, still needs to get married."
Shen Yunfang didn’t pass judgment, she disagreed with Jian Hui’s words, but she could understand her actions. When it comes to people you dislike, even the slightest faults can be magnified to the extreme.
"I’m not afraid to admit it, I did give Shen Yunfeng a hard time during that period. I thought if she had any face left, she would just scurry away. But she stood there and took it, making my taunts feel pointless."
"A couple of months ago, I noticed Shen Yunfeng had started primping herself again, so I guessed she must be loosening her belt again. My guess hit the nail on the head because she got married last month and even invited me to the wedding feast. Oh my, why in the world did I think so highly of her to give her that bit of face? I did not go, no matter what." Jian Hui said with a look of disdain.
"Oh, is it with the one she was caught cheating with?" Shen Yunfang was curious too.
"No way, that guy disappeared long ago. I heard he was some official from the county government. After the incident, his wife made such a scene with crying and fussing that in the end, he had no choice but to get transferred with his wife and child."
Realization dawned on Shen Yunfang. The waters were quite muddied indeed. Shen Yunfeng was so desperate to climb the social ladder, she even sacrificed her own body.
"The one she’s with now, I’ve seen him come to pick Shen Yunfeng up a few times. I won’t comment on his looks—it’s like I’m bad-mouthing someone. But considering the guy’s age, much older than our Old Xing, I really wonder how Shen Yunfeng can stomach it," said Jian Hui, feeling nauseated just thinking about the man’s yellow teeth.
"You never know; maybe the older ones are more caring," said Shen Yunfang insincerely. She held a grudge against Shen Yunfeng and actually felt satisfied with Yunfeng’s misfortunes. But of course, you have to appear generous on the surface.
"Nonsense, caring my foot. It really got to her face, didn’t it? You don’t know, but Shen Yunfeng came to work with a bruised face just three days after getting married. I asked her what happened, and she tried to fob it off, saying she’d bumped into a door at night. Hilarious, as if the mark left by bumping and that by a slap look the same. I can tell them apart." Jian Hui gestured on her face where the injury had been.
Shen Yunfang frowned. It seemed Shen Yunfeng’s luck wasn’t too good; even her second marriage was to a man who was violent at home.
"After that, she would come to work with injuries every few days. I asked around later and found out that the man she married was a minor leader in the former Revolutionary Committee. After the policies changed, he was also demoted. I heard he was infamously ruthless and heartless, and now your cousin has stumbled into this mess."
Shen Yunfang was shocked to hear this. Surely the man wasn’t the Zhao whom Shen Yingxue had married, was it? But then again, it seemed unlikely. Zhao Dahai was already in his thirties when he married Shen Yingxue, which meant his father would’ve been quite old. Over the years, that Director Zhao would be a man over sixty by now, and Shen Yunfeng, even if desperate, wouldn’t be looking to marry someone who could be her father.
"What’s that man’s name?" she asked.
"I don’t know. I asked my old Xing, and he said he hadn’t seen him before, that he was some small fry from the Revolutionary Committee," Jian Hui said with some disdain.
Since Xing Zhonghua didn’t know him, it probably wasn’t that Director Zhao. Shen Yunfang breathed a sigh of relief. She wasn’t afraid of anything; it’s just that, if those two were involved, it would truly be disgusting.
After enjoying a bountiful lunch at the Xings, Li Hongjun and his family of four said their goodbyes.
They had visited almost everyone they needed to. The festive atmosphere of the New Year was thick on the streets, and Li Hongjun was in no rush to return home, so he took his children and wife for a stroll through the county.
The county was bustling now, much more than it had been a few years ago; aside from department stores, there were also small shops run by individuals.
After walking around, they still ended up going to the largest department store in the county.
Inside, Shen Yunfang unsurprisingly saw her former cousin-in-law, Xue Jialong.
Shen Yunfang still remembered the help he had given her when she first arrived, and she was happy for him that he had managed to escape his misery and free himself from Shen Yunfeng’s control early on.
When Shen Yunfang caught sight of Xue Jialong, he was holding a little girl’s hand, about the same age as her own Manman, very pretty, probably his and Shen Yunfeng’s daughter.
The child looked chubby and healthy, dressed in clean clothes, with an innocent expression on her little face. It seemed the Xue Family hadn’t taken out their frustration over Shen Yunfeng’s issues on the child, which spoke volumes of the Xue Family’s character and upbringing.
Shen Yunfang shook her head, truly feeling sorry for Shen Yunfeng. If she had lived well, led a peaceful life, then she could have been a happy woman.
"What’s wrong?" Li Hongjun followed his wife’s gaze. A man was leading a little girl by the hand.
"Nothing, I just saw the former cousin-in-law. It looks like he’s living well now, which can be considered good karma for a good person."
