Chapter 725: Chapter 715: Time to See the Rebate

"So, what do you think we should do about this?" Seeing that he understood the situation so well, Shen Yunfang simply stopped talking and let him make the decision.

"You don’t need to worry about this. Tomorrow I’ll call our folks back home, explain the situation to my elder brother and sister-in-law, and tell them to let Goudan stay at home and work quietly for a couple of years until he’s more mature before coming out again," Li Hongjun had already figured out what to do.

"Mhm, that works. I’ll also have Brother Ma help me keep an eye on things. Goudan has been living in our house for over three months now, no telling if he’s turned it into a doghouse," Yunfang muttered.

Since Li Hongjun was handling the matter, Shen Yunfang no longer worried about it and kept to her usual routine at the farm from nine to five every day.

Lately, she primarily visited the breeding farm because the chickens, ducks, and geese were all being scientifically fed, and after more than four months, the chickens had already grown.

"Sister-in-law, the feed you provided is really effective. Look at these chickens, ducks, and geese, they’ve grown so much in less than half a year. I reckon they’ll start laying eggs after a few more months of feeding," Chu Xiuhua was delighted to see the fruits of her labor.

The past few months, watching the chicks change every day, had made her incredibly happy.

"Yeah, I think it’s about time. For these thousand chickens of yours, have you counted how many are roosters and how many are hens?" Shen Yunfang asked.

"I haven’t done that," Chu Xiuhua replied with a clueless expression. No one had instructed her to do that.

Shen Yunfang didn’t blame her but simply nodded.

"Since you haven’t, I’m giving you three days to separate the roosters from the hens. Count how many hens and roosters there are," Shen Yunfang instructed.

"By myself?" Chu Xiuhua asked subconsciously.

The five staff members in the chicken farm all worked together, which was why she asked without thinking.

"All five chicken coops will work together," Shen Yunfang confirmed.

"Oh, okay." Although Chu Xiuhua did not know what her boss was planning, she decided to go along with it since the boss had given an order.

After making her rounds in all five chicken coops, Shen Yunfang went out to find Chen Jing.

"Chen, you busy?" Shen Yunfang found Chen Jing in the feed room.

Chen Jing was mixing feed with the workers, sweating profusely as they tended to the forty pigs housed in the coop; the workload was indeed substantial.

"Ah, Yunfang, why are you here? Is something up?" Chen Jing paused his work and wiped the sweat from his forehead before asking.

"There is a little matter, but we can talk about it after you’re done," Shen Yunfang did not rush him and actually wanted to lend a hand.

"Manager Chen, you go talk to Sister-in-law. I’ve got this covered here," said a colleague who had a knack for timing, taking over Chen Jing’s task so he could step away and talk.

Seeing that he really could handle it alone, Chen Jing let go and walked toward the door.

It was stuffy inside, so the two stepped out to talk by the door.

"I visited the chicken coop today. You guys are feeding them well; the chicks have grown quite a bit. I’m thinking about asking the sales department to make some inquiries. If we can sell them, we’ll sell a batch of cockerels. So for now, have someone organize a count of how many roosters and hens we have at the coops. After setting aside enough roosters for egg fertilization, we’ll sell the rest. Then we’ll immediately look into getting another batch of chicks in."

"Okay, that can be done quickly. I’ll organize people to start right away, and I’ll have the numbers for you by tomorrow morning," Chen Jing responded after a moment’s thought.

Shen Yunfang nodded, "Alright, you guys get started. However, if we really manage to contact a buyer in the next few days, we’ll also need to deal with slaughtering issues. See how many roosters there are in total and whether we have enough hands."

As Shen Yunfang said each sentence, Chen Jing nodded her head in agreement, finally assuring that she could report back to her by tomorrow morning.

Just as Shen Yunfang was about to leave having given her instructions, Chen Jing remembered something, "Yunfang, there’s actually something we need to consult with you about."

"Oh, what’s that?" Shen Yunfang stopped in her tracks.

"The ten gilt pigs in the sty, I think they are all ready for breeding. What do you think we should do about that?" Originally, of the eighty pigs, ten were gilts and the rest were boars. They were well aware that these ten gilts were raised for the eventual purpose of having piglets.

Shen Yunfang calculated in her mind that at just under six to seven months old, these young gilts were not quite suitable for breeding. 𝚗ovp𝚞b.𝚌om

"How much do these gilts weigh now?" Shen Yunfang asked since she hadn’t visited the pig farming shed in several days.

"With the quality feed we’ve been giving them, the gilts are about a hundred jin, and the boars are slightly bigger; I reckon they’re about one hundred twenty jin now." Chen Jing said this cheerfully. The pigs were growing excellently, gaining weight daily, and with no diseases or pests, they were particularly easy to raise.

Shen Yunfang felt listening was not as good as seeing for herself, "Come on, let’s take a look around."

So the two of them went for a tour of the pig farming shed.

When Shen Yunfang had initially ordered the construction of the shed, she had it designed to incorporate a row of pigsties, separated by brick walls into individual small compartments, perfectly sized for forty pens, enough to raise forty fattened hogs.

Because feces were cleaned out daily, the smell in the shed was still bearable.

Shen Yunfang walked and observed that the pigs inside were indeed not small; they were roughly the size Chen Jing had mentioned, probably around one hundred twenty jin.

After making the rounds, Shen Yunfang said to Chen Jing following behind, "Raise the boars for another month and a half, and once they reach around one hundred fifty jin they’ll be ready for sale. You can start contacting for the next batch of breeder pigs now; having them arrive in a month and a half will allow for a seamless transition."

Chen Jing nodded, indicating she understood.

Now, purchasing for the various departments only required a request from the department manager and then Zhang Chunwang’s approval to spend the money. So the matter of procuring breeding stock eventually fell to the breeding department itself.

After making her rounds here, Shen Yunfang went straight to the watermelon fields. By this time, Zhang Chunwang was guaranteed not to be sitting still in his office.

And indeed, Shen Yunfang guessed correctly; when she arrived, there was Zhang Chunwang, along with Sun Dawei, walking around the watermelon fields.

"What are you guys up to?" Shen Yunfang called out from the edge of the field.

Hearing her voice, both men looked back, "Sister-in-law, what brings you here? You looking for me?" Zhang Chunwang was acutely aware; if the sister-in-law came out under the big sun, it must be for a reason.

"Yeah, I do have a matter to discuss. Are you done with what you’re doing?" Shen Yunfang showed no intention of walking in.

"All done. Dawei and I just came to check on the watermelons in the field. They’re getting shipped out tomorrow, and we wouldn’t be at ease without looking." As he spoke, Zhang Chunwang walked towards the edge of the field with Sun Dawei.

"Is everything arranged?" The watermelons were in season, and the sales department had long sold all forty acres’ worth.

"All arranged, sold everything nearby," Zhang Chunwang said, clearly delighted.

Starting this year, the farm’s income and expenditure books were in his hands. Since the new year began, with all the purchasing, hiring workers, and additional costs, all the entries were recorded by him. Having spent money throughout the past half year, he was finally about to see some return, making him, as the person in charge, understandably happy.
