Chapter 730: Chapter 720 Auntie, just take me with you
After class, Shen Yunfang slung her bag over her shoulder and walked to the main gate, ready to take the bus home. To her surprise, she saw Goudan crouched in the shadows near the school entrance.
Goudan’s eyes had been fixed on the school gate, and as soon as Yunfang emerged, he spotted her, stood up with a beaming smile, and walked over.
"Why are you waiting here for me? Didn’t you go into the city to look around?" Yunfang asked, seeing his empty hands and assuming he hadn’t gone.
"I did, but it wasn’t interesting, so I came back." Goudan had taken a spin around the city, but it felt nothing like the Capital and his enthusiasm for shopping quickly faded.
"Then why didn’t you just go home? It’s so hot sitting here." Yunfang didn’t quite understand the boy’s intentions, but seeing the bus was arriving, she quickly grabbed Goudan’s hand and ran to catch it.
They eventually got on the bus and bought their tickets, then she asked again, "Why didn’t you go home by yourself?"
Goudan stuttered his response, "At the main gate, you have to sign in and out, it’s such a hassle." He had left with his aunt that morning without anyone asking, so he planned to go home with her.
"Ha ha, you’ll get used to it after a while." That’s how the military district is.
Chatting and laughing, the two returned home. In the afternoon, rather than going to the farm, Yunfang took Goudan downtown to a department store to buy him several sets of clothes to change into.
At dinner that evening, Li Hongjun announced Goudan’s future plans. Everything had been clearly communicated with Wang Dan; for now, Goudan would work here to see how it goes. As for the job, Hongjun had already set it up for him, and he would start working in the city next Monday.
For the rest of that week, they gave Goudan some money to go out on his own or to rest at home, as they all had jobs and couldn’t always accompany him.
Early Friday morning, Yunfang was about to ride her bike to the farm, but Goudan pitifully followed her.
Yunfang, pushing the bike, said somewhat helplessly, "Goudan, your uncle has found you a job, and you’ll start working next week. While you still have free time, why don’t you rest at home? We’ll all be back by noon. If you really can’t stand staying in, just take the bus to the city and wander around, as long as you don’t cause trouble or get into fights. You still have money in your pocket, right?"
Goudan quickly nodded.
Yunfang, reassured, prepared to ride off, but she still couldn’t push the bike forward; Goudan hadn’t let go of the bike’s rear seat.
She sighed, and asked resignedly, "Anything else?"
"Auntie, where are you going? Can I come with you? It’s boring at home, and even more so outside." He didn’t have a single friend here, and after being deceived in the Capital, his wariness of strangers was at an all-time high. So, in recent days, he had been pretty lonely at home.
Yunfang frowned at his goofy expression, but eventually compromised, "Fine, if you want to come, come along. But I’m not going to play, I’m going to work. If you come with me, you’ll have to work too."
When Goudan heard he could join, he immediately flashed his eight white teeth and, like Popeye, flexed his muscles, boasting, "What’s there to be afraid of in working? I’m all muscle."
"Quit showing off and hurry up, I’ll give you a lift," Yunfang said testily, watching him clown around.
Upon hearing this, Goudan quickly grabbed the rear seat of the bike again, cheekily saying, "Auntie, it’s embarrassing for a big guy like me to be carried around. It’ll look bad if people talk. How about I carry you instead?" He had been coveting a bike for a long time as they didn’t have one at home.
Yunfang looked into his hopeful eyes and asked unsurely, "Do you know how to ride?"
Goudan immediately thumped his chest thunderously, "Sure, I’ve learned how to ride a bike a long time ago."
In the end, Yunfang let him have the bike but still warned anxiously, "Make sure you ride carefully, or if you dump me, just wait and see how I slap you."
"Heh heh, it’s my uncle who will slap me, right?" Goudan had already sussed out that it was the auntie who ran his uncle’s house. His uncle was only tough in front of others; he completely wilted when it came to his auntie.
"You little rascal, always blurting out the truth," Shen Yunfang laughed from behind.
Goudan did know how to ride a bike, but who knew how young he was when he learned. At this moment, as soon as he got on the bike, he began to twist the handlebars and started making arcs on the wide road, fortunately avoiding a fall.
"Can you actually ride or not?" Shen Yunfang didn’t dare to jump on the bike immediately and instead followed behind, watching.
"Yeah, definitely, but you have to give me a few minutes to get familiar with it," Goudan shouted while continuing to make arcs.
Shen Yunfang had no choice but to follow behind the bike, and sure enough, after a while, when Goudan got the hang of it, he could ride in a straight line.
"Auntie, hop on," Goudan called, turning a corner in front and riding back to pick her up.
"You sure?" Shen Yunfang asked, somewhat skeptical.
"Oh, come on, trust me, I’ve got this," Goudan assured her confidently.
Shen Yunfang thought it over and, grabbing the back seat, lightly hopped onto the rear of the bike.
"Hey, hey, hey, ride in a straight line," Shen Yunfang couldn’t help but yell.
"Don’t move, I’ve got this under control," he responded. 𝚗ov𝚙𝚞𝚋.c𝚘m
"Ay, veer to the left a bit, we’re going to hit the curb!"
"I know, I know, Auntie, don’t rush me," Goudan replied.
By the time Shen Yunfang finally saw the farm, she jumped off the back of the bike, declaring she would no longer ride with Goudan. "You go ahead and ride on; I won’t ride anymore. Do you see it? Just wait for me in front of that building," she directed him to the dormitory building of the farm.
Goudan looked at the distance and said, "Alright, Auntie, take your time walking, I’ll go practice a bit more," and after pedaling a few times, he sped off into the distance.
When Shen Yunfang finally arrived at the dorm building, puffing and glistening under the scorching sun, she saw Goudan confront one of the girls who cooked at the farm.
"Auntie, you came just in time. Please tell her quickly, it’s really you who asked me to wait here," Goudan was nearly driven crazy by this girl. He kept saying he was just waiting for someone, yet she wouldn’t believe a word and kept eyeing him as if he were a thief, making him feel extremely uncomfortable.
"Sister-in-law," the young girl blushed immediately upon realizing that Shen Yunfang truly knew this boy and likely misunderstood the situation, looking rather embarrassed.
"Haha, Xiaoli, sorry for the trouble. This is my nephew, his name is Li Shiguo, nickname Goudan," Shen Yunfang praised her, emphasizing that the staff should have the spirit of treating the farm as their home and considering themselves part of the farm community. She, the boss, was delighted with this spirit.
After the misunderstanding was cleared, Xiaoli hurried off, and Shen Yunfang led Goudan towards the office building.
Goudan hadn’t noticed at first but now realized that if his aunt worked as a teacher at the Agricultural University, why was she working here today? Where was this place?
As he pondered, he couldn’t help but ask out loud.
"Hehe, this is ’Feiyang’ Farm, which I started building after leasing the land last year. From back there to over there, all the way to the front, it’s all mine for the next sixty-nine years," she explained.
Goudan’s mouth dropped open in surprise. He never imagined that his aunt, after attending university and becoming a teacher, had also become a major landlord.
