Chapter 739: Chapter 729 Take Care, No Need to See You Out
Clearly, Shen Yingxue was not a mind-reader like Shen Yunfang, she assumed Shen Yunfang’s refusal was due to an earlier conflict between the two. Although her face showed no emotion, in her heart, she cursed Shen Yunfang from head to toe. Such an ignorant woman still wanted to do business? Sooner or later, she would drive herself to bankruptcy.
"Hehe, Yunfang, I know you’re mad at me, but you’re an adult now. I hear you’ve even birthed two children. We shouldn’t let personal feelings affect our business. Besides, it’s not wise to let anger interfere with money, right?" Shen Yingxue believed that what Shen Yunfang had said earlier was out of anger, just to spite her, so she attempted to reason with the woman opposite her.
Shen Yunfang laughed this time, "Shen Yingxue, I really can’t afford to be at odds with money, which is why every word I say is true. You truly have come too late. Our agricultural products are quite famous in Z Province. Many people are eyeing the goods produced here. Thus, after the autumn harvest, the rice and flour were snapped up by various organizations. And I might as well tell you, the price I got was higher than what you offered. So if you want to cooperate with me next year, you’d best do your homework on the Z City market rates. Otherwise, our partnership will remain a distant prospect."
Having said that, she stood up, ready to see her guest out, "I’m really sorry, I’m quite busy here and can’t keep you company any longer. Our place is rather remote, let me walk you out." As she spoke, she walked to the office door, opened it, and waited for her.
At this, Shen Yingxue’s smile finally faltered. She stood up with a cold face and clacked her heels toward the door until she reached the car. Then, she adjusted her emotions and put on a slight smile again, preparing to turn back and say a few courteous words. This was a skill she had honed through years of trading – no matter how malicious she felt inside, she always kept a smile on her face. After all, today’s adversary might well be tomorrow’s partner. There were no permanent friends or foes, only interests that dictated their relations. So, there might be a chance for collaboration in the future.
But as she smiled and turned around, she didn’t see Shen Yunfang, who should have been following to see her off, but instead saw several black dog heads sticking out their tongues at her.
"Ah..."
The shrill scream echoed around the Drying Yard.
After leaving the dormitory, Shen Yunfang went straight to supervise the production of lees at the Drying Yard. This was essential for brewing fine liquor, and she couldn’t rest easy without watching over the process.
However, she had just sat down when she was startled by Shen Yingxue’s scream.
"Taxue, what are you doing? Hurry back here." Shen Yunfang turned her head to see her dog, Taxue, along with its mate and two pups, hovering around Shen Yingxue, probably recognizing her scent.
After all, Shen Yingxue used to wander into her home quite often.
Taxue was circling the stranger, a duty it took seriously, having learned from its mate. Taxue was now very earnest about this job, but mother’s words also mattered, so it cheerfully wagged its tail and led its little family back.
On the other hand, Shen Yingxue’s screams had stopped, and she was staring wide-eyed in this direction.
Shen Yunfang wanted to pet Taxue’s head, but Taxue was filthy from running around outside all the time—how could she work with dirty hands later? This lees was meant for consumption, after all.
"This is Taxue, you saw him when you visited my home before. Don’t worry, he doesn’t bite." It doesn’t bite good people, at least. But for those who steal or encroach upon its territory, Taxue definitely dares to bite, thought Shen Yunfang to herself.
Once Shen Yingxue stopped screaming, she realized how she had embarrassed herself. She didn’t take in Shen Yunfang’s explanation, instead snorting coldly, turning around, getting into the car, which then drove away with a whirr.
"Shen Yunfang, you just wait. Since you’re so ungrateful, I’ll make you come to me begging." Sitting in the car, Shen Yingxue cursed vehemently, "Let’s go, to Cuizhu." Cuizhu was Shen Yingxue’s love nest with her wealthy paramour. She was in a rush to go back and tattle.
"Honestly, such an impolite person." The farm woman, who had never really taken a liking to Shen Yingxue in her fancy dress, had held her tongue until now, but finally couldn’t contain herself and commented after watching her leave.
"Yeah, she arrived all smiles, but left with a scowl on her face," another woman chimed in with her own muttering.
"Heh, city folks are just so timid. Just look, one dog scared her into a fit of squeals, pretty funny to watch," another woman laughed at the urban woman’s expense.
"Sister-in-law, who was that woman just now? She seemed to know you," a perceptive villager continued to make small talk while not neglecting her work.
"Hmm, I know her but we’re not close, she used to live in the same village. We lost contact after each of us got married," said Shen Yunfang.
"Oh, so she’s married? Can’t really tell, I thought she was still a young girl."
"Ha, her kid’s the same age as ours. But women who don’t have to raise kids do age slower, indeed."
"Sister-in-law, what do you mean? She’s married and has kids, how come she doesn’t raise them? Is there some story there?"
See, working folks are quite sharp too.
Shen Yunfang certainly didn’t feel obliged to cover for Shen Yingxue’s messed-up affairs, so while working, she spilled all the beans about Shen Yingxue’s shenanigans back home. She emphasized this woman’s two-faced nature, always playing innocent while stabbing others in the back.
Shen Yunfang didn’t feel the slightest bit guilty about badmouthing Shen Yingxue behind her back, nor did she think there was anything wrong with it. It was only because she was older and had become more patient. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been just words; she would have locked the door and set the dog on her already.
Speaking of dogs, Taxue, along with her pups, had chased a car for a while before running back.
Shen Yunfang hurriedly scolded, "Taxue, you better not chase after cars again, hear me? If you don’t obey, just wait and see how I’ll deal with you."
Ever since Taxue arrived at the farm with her mate, she had been living quite unrestrainedly and developed a bad habit of chasing after cars. Shen Yunfang had scolded her numerous times, but she never learned, infuriating Shen Yunfang to the point where she had tempted Li Hongjun to beat her with a belt a few times to teach her a lesson.
Taxue wasn’t afraid of her mom in the least, shamelessly rubbing her big head against Shen Yunfang’s legs.
"Ah, enough, enough, get lost! If you knock anything over, see if I don’t take a broom to your hide," Shen Yunfang said, as she gently kicked Taxue to the side with her foot, fearing that she might accidentally topple a basin.
"Wuu wuu wuu..." Taxue whined, complaining around her mom.
"No whining, hey, you’re a dad now, yet you still want to play so much. Set a good example for your kids, DaDou and Erdou, will you?" Shen Yunfang remained unmoved, busying her hands with work while not forgetting to give Taxue a piece of her mind. "With your behavior, the kids will turn out just as bad."
"Hahaha..."
The colleagues nearby couldn’t help but burst into laughter upon hearing this unusual dialogue between the woman and her dog.
