Chapter 765: Chapter 755: The Unreasonable Wang Dan
A few people were leisurely touring around here, but over where Goudan was, the scene could only be described as chickens flying and dogs jumping.
Back then, Wang Dan dragged her husband to look for Goudan, who was mixing the evening’s feed. It was winter, and the chickens couldn’t go out to forage by themselves, so during winter, they had to be fed three times a day. Due to that, a breeder like Goudan would be a bit more tired.
"Oh, Goudan, Mom’s finally found you," Wang Dan said, her eyes lighting up upon seeing her son.
Goudan shivered from the look in his mother’s eyes.
"Mom, what’s wrong? What do you need me for?" He thought there must have been some big issue.
"Oh, you rascal, can’t your mom look for you if there’s nothing wrong?" Wang Dan was not pleased and gave her son a glare.
Goudan rubbed his arm. He just asked a question, and she got physical. Mom was still as unreasonable as ever.
Wang Dan’s eyes darted around; she also wanted to see if her son was hiding anything from her, so she didn’t ask directly. Instead, she beat around the bush a bit, "Son, your second aunt’s place is pretty good, isn’t it?"
"Yeah, it’s very good," Goudan replied as he turned back and began busying himself with his tasks.
Goudan truly felt it was good to work at his second aunt’s.
He was only busy during breakfast and dinner times. In the summer, the chickens would wander around outside by themselves, so he had nothing much to do. If the work in the factory was done, he could head straight to the dormitory to rest. Life was leisurely, and the monthly salary was high; life as an employee was good.
However, for Goudan, the only downside was the limited vacation time. There were only ten days of paid vacation per year, and he could take two days off per month. Any more than that would mean a deduction from his wages. Staying here every day could get a bit dull for a young man.
But he wasn’t a naive youngster without any experience. He’d gone out and ventured before; he knew the outside world was very dangerous. He planned to make good money while he could at his second aunt’s place, and save up a bit more before his wings were fully grown.
"I just went out for a walk, and heard that the salary your second aunt pays is very high. Not only does she pay a fixed salary of fifty yuan per month, but she also gives bonuses for good and abundant work. How about it, has your second aunt treated you badly?" Wang Dan continued to probe, watching her son’s expression as she spoke.
"Yeah, that’s right, you get paid for how much you work, so the workers here basically don’t slack off. I’m so capable, of course, my second aunt wouldn’t treat me poorly," Goudan was quite confident in his earning abilities.
Initially, he was supposed to try it out for a month, and he passed without any doubt, earning fifty yuan plus a bonus of twenty-eight yuan the second month. After that, he earned even more each month. The chickens he raised would probably start laying eggs by next spring, and by then, his salary would surely exceed one hundred yuan.
"Son, how much can you actually earn in a month at your second aunt’s?"
Goudan turned around warily to look at his mother, "Why are you asking about this?"
Wang Dan couldn’t pretend any longer and exclaimed with hands on her hips, "You little rascal! What can your mom do with you? Am I going to steal your money?"
Goudan sneered inwardly; others might not, but his mother surely would. Whenever his father brought home even a little bit of money, his mother would swiftly take it all, not leaving a single cent for his father. 𝔫𝖔𝖛𝖕𝔲𝔟.𝔠𝖔𝖒
"What’s with that look? Spit it out. You’ve been out for almost a year, and you’ve only sent home a hundred yuan. Have you been squandering the rest of your money?" Wang Dan, getting angry, slapped her eldest son’s back again.
"Mom, what are you doing? Are you a bandit? Getting physical again?" Goudan, unable to reach his back, could only do some chest expansion exercises to ease the pain. His mom’s hand was still as heavy as ever.
"I didn’t earn a dime when I went to the Capital; I was swindled by people. I’ve only been at my second aunt’s for a few months. To be able to send you a hundred yuan is already not easy," Goudan said, aggrieved.
In fact, the boy hadn’t been telling the truth. He had been at his second aunt’s place for nearly half a year and had only made thirty yuan in the first month, but for each of the following months, he had made nearly eighty yuan more. He didn’t have many expenses here, so he had saved up almost all of it.
But he wasn’t stupid; he knew about his mother’s grip on money. Once the money reached his mother’s hands, there was no chance of getting it back, so he felt it was better to keep it himself. Besides, his mother always said she didn’t want their money and was just saving it for them, to give to them when they got married. So, what did it matter whose hands the money was in?
Even Goudan had his own little schemes.
Initially, Wang Dan had thought a hundred yuan was quite a lot, but after hearing from Yunfang that the workers here could make seventy or eighty yuan a month, she no longer felt a hundred yuan was much at all.
"You’re still hiding things from me," Wang Dan sincerely believed, "Your second aunt told me that you could make at least seventy or eighty yuan in wages every month. You’ve been here for quite a few months now, so you must have made four or five hundred yuan by now, right? Tell me, where did the rest of the money go?"
In her mind, Goudan was still a young guy, and it made no sense for him to hold so much money. If anything were to happen to him, it would be all over, so it was only right for her, as a mother, to save for her son.
Goudan shook his head like a rattle drum, "You don’t need to save for me. The hundred yuan I’m giving you is to show my filial respect. I’ll save the rest for myself, for when I’m looking for a partner and planning to get married."
This mother and son, one insisting on having the money, the other refusing to hand it over, couldn’t agree because of the money. As a result, they chased and fought each other around the factory, creating chaos like chickens flying and dogs jumping.
Heh, Taxue, while on patrol with her mate, happened to pass by the breeding department. Hearing the quarrel, she came to join the excitement, and sure enough, it was a scene of utter mayhem.
By the time Shen Yunfang and the others returned to the office from the greenhouse, they saw Taxue crouched at the office door, eyeing the inside with a predatory gaze.
"What’s going on?" Yunfang felt somewhat suspicious as she went over and patted Taxue’s head.
"Oh, Yunfang, I’m so glad you’re back. Why is your dog so disobedient? Didn’t it recognize me from my visit to your house in the Capital? Just now, it even bared its teeth at me," Wang Dan complained to the dog’s owner the moment she saw her.
Baring teeth is a sign of aggression.
"Oh? Taxue bared her teeth at you? So what did you do?" Yunfang naturally trusted her own dog, Taxue. There must have been something Wang Dan did. After all, how could her well-behaved Taxue want to attack her?
"What could I possibly do..."
Wang Dan was about to make an excuse but was interrupted by Goudan standing by.
"You didn’t do anything? Weren’t you chasing after me, screaming and hitting? How could Taxue want to attack you otherwise? You know, Taxue is our farm’s dog security guard, and nobody is allowed to cause trouble," Goudan immediately revealed his mother’s true colors.
"You ungrateful child, who’s your mother here, it or me?" Wang Dan was infuriated.
"Hmph, Taxue wouldn’t chase after me for money, though," Goudan muttered under his breath.
Wang Dan, infuriated, was about to lose her temper and hit him again. At home, she was used to being the one in charge, her word law from old to young. But now, her son had become disobedient after just a few days outside.
As things looked like they were about to escalate into another fight, Yunfang hurriedly stepped in to mediate and finally managed to calm Wang Dan down. After understanding the reason behind this mother-son conflict, she was speechless.
Goodness me. She had originally thought Wang Dan was quite dependable, but that was just a facade—she was unreliable too.
