At night, the nurse’s station.
This was the first time Yin Yourong and her colleague Zhang Ya were on the night shift.
During the day, they hadn’t noticed anything amiss since the hospital was bustling with people, and they were too busy to feel scared; they only felt tired.
But now, as the number of people slowly decreased, and since this was the inpatient department where hardly any patient needed consultation, the entire nurse’s station had become quiet.
"Yourong, do you hear anything?"
Yin Yourong, who was passing the time by reading medical books, suddenly heard Zhang Ya ask this question.
Yin Yourong looked puzzled.
"What sound?"
Zhang Ya, curled up like a quail, said with some fear, "It’s that kind of voice, straining with all its might, a very painful sound, as if it’s coming from the men’s restroom."
Zhang Ya usually liked watching horror movies.
During the day, she would pretend to be braver than anyone else and would mock those interns who dared not watch horror films.
But when night fell, Zhang Ya would turn into a quail.
She just knew to shiver next to Yin Yourong.
Yin Yourong frowned and said, "What straining voice? I told you to watch fewer horror movies, but you didn’t listen. Now you’re scaring yourself at night."
"It’s true!"
Zhang Ya tugged at Yin Yourong’s sleeve.
"Yourong, I’m scared, why don’t you come with me to check the restroom?"
"To go to the men’s restroom with you?"
Yin Yourong rolled her eyes.
"If I really did that, we’d be on the news tomorrow morning."
Zhang Ya, blushing, said somewhat embarrassedly, "No, I mean, I need to use the restroom but I’m too scared to go alone."
Yin Yourong shook her head and refused, "According to the rules, at least one person must stay at the nurse’s station in case of emergencies. Sister He hasn’t returned yet; I can’t leave."
Zhang Ya’s legs tightened, and she couldn’t help but wiggle around.
"What am I supposed to do then? I really can’t hold it anymore."
Yin Yourong just smiled and did not answer.
The hospital had rules, and she couldn’t just abandon her post.
Fortunately, at that moment, the senior nurse He Chunfang came back.
As soon as she arrived at the nurse’s station, she noticed that Zhang Ya’s complexion was a bit off.
"Xiao Zhang, what’s wrong with you, are you feeling unwell?"
Zhang Ya quickly said to He Chunfang, "Sister He, Yourong and I are going to the restroom, we’ll be right back."
He Chunfang gave an ’oh’, seemingly absentmindedly nodded her head.
Then, as if a thought struck her, she laughed.
"It seems this batch of newcomers are also quite timid. When they come back, I’ll have to properly train them."
Zhang Ya dragged Yin Yourong to the women’s restroom, and she immediately rushed into a stall and felt relieved.
But even as she flushed, she couldn’t help but call out anxiously to the outside.
"Yourong, you’re outside, right?"
"Yes, I’m here."
Yin Yourong was somewhat helpless.
They were adults, and still, she needed someone to accompany her to the restroom.
"Yourong, aren’t you going too? Since you’re already here, go ahead."
Yin Yourong said irritably, "I just went, I don’t need to."
Just as their words fell, they suddenly heard a man’s painful voice from the next stall.
Uh... ah... Harsah give!
Upon hearing this sound, their expressions immediately changed.
Wasn’t this the strained, painful voice Zhang Ya had mentioned!
Zhang Ya, frightened, quickly pulled up her pants, stepped out of the stall, and stood with Yin Yourong.
"Yin Yourong, did you hear that? That’s the sound! The one I heard at the nurse’s station just now!"
"This sound is just like a demon’s whisper, exactly like what I heard in a horror movie!"
Yin Yourong was also frightened, her palms sweating.
Because that sound was indeed painful.
The man in the neighboring men’s restroom, it was as if he was struggling to break free from some kind of binding!
Bang!
A cubicle door in the women’s restroom suddenly burst open!
Frightened, Yin Yourong and Zhang Ya closed their eyes and screamed in shock.
The two women screamed for a full minute. When they opened their eyes, they saw a female nurse looking at them with a speechless expression.
"Are you done yelling?"
Seeing it was a colleague, the two women immediately calmed down.
They both felt somewhat embarrassed.
"Did you… did you hear the sound from next door?"
Zhang Ya tried to change the topic to make them seem less embarrassed.
Little did they know, the female nurse, while washing her hands, said indifferently, "That’s Uncle Wang from bed forty-nine. He suffers from frequent, urgent, and incomplete urination, so every time he enters the men’s restroom, that’s the noise he makes. Is it strange?"
The nurse had barely finished speaking when a man in a patient’s gown, supporting himself against the wall, walked out.
The man also gave the women an extra strange glance.
"Just now I heard someone yelling in the women’s restroom. Everything okay?"
The two women quickly waved their hands, indicating nothing was wrong.
The man nodded and left the restroom.
After verifying that indeed they had overreacted, the two women then thanked the nurse.
"Thank you, senior, it’s our first night shift, so... so we get scared easily at any little noise."
The female nurse casually washed her face to keep herself alert.
"It’s like this everyone’s first night shift. After more shifts, and seeing more dead people, you won’t be so easily startled."
Yin Yourong glanced at the nurse’s name badge again to express her gratitude, then led Zhang Ya back to the nurse’s station.
No sooner had they returned to the nurse’s station than He Chunfang frowned and questioned them: "Was it you screaming in the women’s restroom?"
Zhang Ya, her face flushed, nodded embarrassedly.
"Reckless!" 𝚗o𝚟pub.𝚌𝚘𝚖
He Chunfang said, "Don’t you know that patients need rest at night the most?"
"Even some patients with weak hearts and fearfulness, your screaming could easily have caused serious trouble!"
Zhang Ya immediately apologized, "Sorry, Sister Fang, we lacked experience and thought we had encountered a ghost, hence the screaming."
Zhang Ya then detailed what had occurred.
At first, He Chunfang thought it was normal.
"Uncle Wang indeed has a problem with frequent, urgent, and incomplete urination, but that’s not right, who told you this? Tonight, only the three of us are on night duty."
Yin Yourong replied, "Sister Liao told us."
"Which Sister Liao?"
"Sister Liao Yonghua, I just saw her name badge."
Upon hearing Yin Yourong say this, He Chunfang’s face instantly turned dreadfully pale.
"Liao... Liao Yonghua? Are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?"
Yin Yourong nodded.
"Absolutely not wrong. What’s the matter, Sister Fang? Is there a problem?"
The next sentence from He Chunfang sent chills down the spines of the two women again.
"Liao Yonghua died last month, a sudden death right here at our nurse’s station from working too late."
A chilly breeze blew through, and all three felt a spine-chilling cold.
Just then, a sinister and weird laughter came from the end of the corridor in the sterile ward!
