"Did… did you guys hear that?"
Zhang Ya once again curled up like a quail, shivering all over.
This time, it wasn’t just her and Yin Yourong, even He Chunfang’s complexion turned unsightly.
To be honest, after so many years as a nurse, He Chunfang had also encountered some bizarre incidents.
It’s just that she usually didn’t want to think about them, unwilling to scare herself.
But when she truly faced something inexplicable, she was still very afraid.
"It seems to be coming from the sterile ward? Yourong, isn’t that your responsibility? Why don’t you go have a look?"
With fear in her voice, Yin Yourong said to He Chunfang, "Sister Fang, why don’t you come with us?"
He Chunfang shook her head and said seriously, "I can’t leave, the nurse station mustn’t be unmanned, you guys go ahead, I’ll keep an eye on you from here, don’t worry, nothing will happen."
The nurse station was situated right at the elevator entrance, with a clear view of the corridors to the left and right.
He Chunfang signaled with her eyes that she would cheer them on.
Having no choice, the two mustered their courage and made their way towards the sterile ward at the end of the corridor.
As Zhang Ya walked, she whispered, "Isn’t Wu Bin the one staying in that ward? His whole body is burned, he shouldn’t be able to make any sounds, in theory."
No sooner had Zhang Ya’s words fallen, the eerie and bizarre laughter came once again.
The two immediately felt a chilling terror and stood frozen in place for a long time, too afraid to move forward.
Fortunately, the laughter came and went in bursts.
After the laughter stopped, they gripped each other’s hands tightly, encouraged each other, and continued to move forward.
When they arrived outside the sterile ward, they were instantly dumbstruck.
They saw Wu Bin, his body wrapped in bandages, sitting on the bed with a remote control in hand, chuckling foolishly at the television.
As if noticing someone outside, Wu Bin turned his head slowly, as if his neck was rusted, to look at the two of them.
The white light from the television shone on Wu Bin’s face.
Blood-soaked bandages, a sinister gaze, and that sharp, warped laughter.
The two screamed in terror!
"Ghost!"
They cried out as they ran towards the nurse station.
The veteran nurse He Chunfang was also sufficiently frightened, taking out the golden Buddha amulet she wore on her chest to shield herself, muttering prayers for divine protection.
Wu Bin, still on the bed, had a look of confusion on his face.
All he had done was watch TV in the middle of the night. Why were they running?
…
The next day, early morning.
Li Guotai and a group of professors, all with dark circles under their eyes, looked at Wu Bin lying in the bed, deep in thought.
"So this is the ghost you two saw last night?"
Zhang Ya and Yin Yourong stood beside the bed, stammering and unable to speak for quite some time.
After all, they were her subordinates, and the head nurse Liu Jing said sternly, "What kind of training did you receive in school?"
"Didn’t the teachers ever teach you not to shout and scream when working the night shift?"
"Do you realize how many patients complained about you last night, and Mr. Wang was even scared to the point of wetting his pants by you both! I think you two are more like ghosts, two female ghosts!"
The two wore embarrassed expressions.
Muttering, Zhang Ya said, "But last night was really scary, you know."
"Director Li said during the day that Wu Bin hadn’t recovered and couldn’t move around."
"But last night, we really saw him sitting up and watching TV!"
Hearing this, the group turned their gaze toward Wu Bin.
Yet at that moment, Wu Bin lay there as if in deep sleep, showing no reaction to what Zhang Ya said.
Professor Zeng chimed in, "Could it be that Wu Bin really has regained his mobility?"
Professor Guo retorted, "Impossible, with burns of such severity, recovery would take at least a year and a half. It hasn’t even been a week; how could he possibly have recovered so quickly?"
Professor Guo’s words did not garner agreement from the other doctors.
If this were an ordinary person, indeed, such burns would need a year and a half to heal.
But if it were Wu Bin, a week’s time seemed not entirely out of the question.
After all, the samples they had obtained from Wu Bin showed his cells to be highly active, with a metabolic rate thirty times that of normal healthy cells.
This metabolic speed was something they had never encountered before.
Theoretically speaking, if Wu Bin could freely control this metabolic rate, he would possess the same abilities as a gecko, capable of regenerating at a high speed.
"Alright, whether Wu Bin sat up and watched television last night or not, as hospital nurses we can’t be so easily startled," said Li Guotai.
"Liu Jing, the two of them are from your nursing station, you take care of it."
"Yes, Director," Liu Jing replied.
Liu Jing gestured with her hand to the two, indicating for them to follow her out.
Li Guotai looked towards the group of senior professors.
"You all go back to work as well, I will have a private chat with Wu Bin here," he said.
The senior professors nodded and turned to leave the ward.
When only Li Guotai and Wu Bin were left in the ward, Li Guotai said with a smile, "Alright, cut the act, up you get." 𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑝𝘶𝘣.𝑐𝘰𝘮
Wu Bin still lay on the hospital bed, showing no intention of moving.
Li Guotai went for the big guns.
"So you still want to play dead? Fine, then I’ll have to call someone to take you to the operating room for a full examination."
Upon hearing this, Wu Bin hurriedly opened his eyes.
Wu Bin said in a hoarse voice, "I’m awake, just woke up."
Li Guotai didn’t bother exposing him.
"You can talk?"
Li Guotai was somewhat surprised.
Based on their normal estimates, Wu Bin would have had to lie in bed for at least three months before he could start speaking.
Now though Wu Bin’s voice was raspy, he was at least able to talk.
Li Guotai approached Wu Bin, taking a closer look at the wounds beneath his bandages.
Li Guotai was surprised to find that some of the scabs on Wu Bin were already starting to fall off, revealing normal skin underneath!
Li Guotai’s eyes widened as if he had seen a ghost.
"Is your healing ability that strong?"
Although Guotai had known that Wu Bin was robust, this still gave him quite a shock.
Wu Bin said somewhat awkwardly, "I knew you would react like this, that’s why I pretended to be asleep."
Wu Bin trusted Li Guotai’s character.
That’s why he was willing to confide in Li Guotai and communicate with him.
If it were any other doctor, Wu Bin would have had to continue pretending to be asleep.
Otherwise, if others found out he was recovering this quickly, they might just take him away for dissecting and studying.
Li Guotai clicked his tongue in amazement, "Buddy, I truly envy your constitution. You are indeed hard to kill."
"But pretending to be asleep is not a solution; the bandages on your body need to be changed daily."
"How about this, I’ll arrange a nurse specifically for your dressings."
"What do you think about Yin Yourong?"
Wu Bin nodded.
Yin Yourong had taken care of his life before, that girl was foolhardily innocent and easy to deceive.
Seeing Wu Bin nod in agreement, Li Guotai continued, "Alright, then I’ll arrange for Yin Yourong to change your dressings, just don’t get up in the middle of the night to watch television anymore, it’s easy to scare the young lady."
