16 -16: I’m cold, can I sit close to you?

He paused.

Listening carefully, it was a sound of crying, desperately suppressed.

Fu Rongyin’s brows almost imperceptibly twitched as he pulled open the door and walked out into the living room, only to see a quilt wrapped around the sofa.

As he walked closer, he realized it was Chi Yue hiding inside the quilt and crying.

“Chi Yue,” he called her.

Chi Yue didn’t react.

Fu Rongyin pulled down her quilt, and as she looked up, under the dim yellow light, Chi Yue’s exquisitely beautiful face was covered in tear stains, her almond-shaped eyes still brimming with tears, ready to fall at any moment.

Fu Rongyin’s gaze slightly narrowed, “What are you doing?”

The next second, Chi Yue reached out and hugged his waist, “I’m scared~”

Fu Rongyin’s body stiffened.

Although they had been together twice, they had never embraced each other so formally.

After a brief shock, Fu Rongyin stretched out his hand to push her, but her grip only tightened.

Fu Rongyin felt a headache coming on, “Let go.”

“Don’t push me away, I’ll die.”

Fu Rongyin stopped moving.

He felt a slight dampness on his bathrobe, looked down, and indeed saw Chi Yue crying silently again.

Thinking of what she had said just before, Fu Rongyin asked, “Why would you die?”

Chi Yue started sobbing.

Fu Rongyin had never seen anyone cry like this.

She wasn’t bawling or gasping for air; she was just pressing her lips together, sobbing and shedding tears, without any other expression.

Fu Rongyin just watched her, not knowing how long had passed when he suddenly lowered his head and kissed her on the back of her head.

Chi Yue stared blankly with wide eyes, full of disbelief.

Finally, he let her go, and an ambiguous atmosphere lingered between them.

“Still crying?”

His voice, low and cold, held a magical power that instantly soothed her uneasy emotions.

She dully shook her head.

“If you’re not crying anymore, go to bed, go sleep on the bed.”

“Oh.”

Chi Yue got up and crossed him into the master bedroom.

Fu Rongyin glanced expressionlessly at the guest room, struggled for a long time, but eventually, he entered the master bedroom as well.

On the bed, never occupied by anyone else, Chi Yue curled up like a child, holding onto his quilt in a tiny ball.

As he approached, he noticed that the tear stains on Chi Yue’s face were still not dry.

He lifted the quilt and lay on the other half of the bed.

Perhaps feeling the warmth, Chi Yue wormed her way over, cautiously lying next to him, yet not daring to get too close.

Fu Rongyin closed his eyes, certain unknown molecules began to run wild.

He knew today was not suitable, so he forcefully suppressed himself.

But Chi Yue seemed uncomfortable as she slept, frequently changing positions.

Fu Rongyin felt irritated and pulled her into his arms securing her, “Stay still.”

Chi Yue looked up from his embrace, not with the cold aloofness of the daytime, but with an expression only someone her age could possess.

“I’m cold, can I sleep next to you?”

“You can, but you have to be responsible for your actions.”

At that moment, Chi Yue’s emotions were not controlled by her brain, but led by her feelings.

Hearing his words, she hesitated for a moment but it was only a moment before lifting her hand around his waist…

Tonight, Chi Yue was exceptionally obedient, so compliant that later on, Fu Rongyin couldn’t control the strength of his actions until dawn was near.

Once Chi Yue was free, she dove back into the quilt at an astonishing speed and closed her eyes without moving.

Fu Rongyin watched her for a long while, making sure she was truly asleep, then he wrapped her and the quilt into his arms.

Chi Yue’s biological clock was very punctual, and she woke up as soon as it was light.

The man was lying beside her, his profound features clearer than in her memory.
