17: Chapter 17: Leaving without a Goodbye
17 -17: Leaving without a Goodbye
After a brief silence, she tiptoed out of the room, changed her clothes, and left.
Last night, she had set her phone to silent.
Nan Bingyu had called several times, but she hadn’t answered; the most recent call had come two hours ago.
Chi Yue called back, and it was quickly picked up.
“Yueyue?”
“It’s me.”
Nan Bingyu let out a sigh of relief, “You were okay last night, weren’t you?”
“I’m fine.” Chi Yue’s tone revealed no change in emotion.
“Listen to me, when my brother comes back, have him check on you.
You can’t put this off any longer.”
Chi Yue: “No need, I was quite alright last night.”
Chi Yue had been afraid of water ever since she could remember.
Every night she ended up in the water, she would have nightmares of varying severity, creating a ruckus the whole night.
Before, Bai Qing was there for her, but not last night, which was why Nan Bingyu worried about her.
Maybe it was because she was with Fu Rongyin, but Chi Yue managed to sleep relatively peacefully last night.
Nan Bingyu was still concerned, “My brother will be back for his leave soon.
When that time comes, you should come home with me and let him have a look at you.”
Unable to dissuade Nan Bingyu, Chi Yue reluctantly agreed for the moment.
She didn’t know that as soon as Nan Bingyu hung up, she called her brother.
“Brother, can you take your leave earlier?”
“What’s wrong?” The man’s cool and pleasant voice came through.
“It’s about that friend I told you about before.
Every time she falls into the water, it triggers psychological issues, very severe ones.
She fell into water yesterday, but it seems like nothing happened.
I suspect she has been further traumatized, and it’s gotten more severe.”
“Chi Yue?”
“Yes, her!
So, I’m asking if you, the psychology PhD, can come back earlier?”
“I can’t.”
Nan Bingyu’s complexion darkened, “Goodbye!”
She shouldn’t have made the call if it was only going to upset her!
——
Lately, Chi Yue had been focused on Bai Qing.
The cancer cells had spread throughout her body, and Bai Qing’s condition was deteriorating.
The doctors spoke to Chi Yue, saying Bai Qing didn’t have much time left, perhaps only about a month.
Chi Yue had no other choice but to resign and take care of Bai Qing.
One day, taking advantage of the good weather, Chi Yue wheeled Bai Qing downstairs to bask in the sun.
Bai Qing said, “Yueyue, let mom take a picture of you, go stand over there.”
Chi Yue handed her the phone and obediently went over.
In the frame, she smiled faintly, her features serene but her eyes hid an indissoluble sorrow.
Bai Qing posted the photo of Chi Yue to Chi Yue’s social circle, then looked at it fondly, “My daughter is so beautiful.”
Chi Yue said nothing, quietly standing beside her.
“Yueyue, call your dad, ask him to come over,” Bai Qing suddenly said.
Chi Yue pursed her lips, “Mom, you can just tell me if there’s anything you want to say.”
Bai Qing shook her head, “Have him come over, I have something to tell him.”
Chi Yue paused for a moment, “Okay.”
She called Chi Jianshan, and without confirming whether he would or wouldn’t come over, she ended the call.
As it happened.
On the way back to the ward with Bai Qing, Chi Yue ran into Chu Shuo.
Chu Shuo showed no surprise at seeing her, greeted her, then turned to Bai Qing, “And this is?”
Chi Yue: “My mom.”
“Auntie, hello, I’m Chi Yue’s friend, Chu Shuo.”
Bai Qing looked at Chi Yue, and Chi Yue said, “Mr.
Chu has been very helpful recently.” Then she added, “Mr.
Chu also knows Fu Rao.”
Bai Qing’s expression turned noticeably less pleasant, distant as she replied, “Hello.”
Chu Shuo seemed oblivious to Bai Qing’s displeasure, and he asked Chi Yue, “Were you alright the other day?
I later called Nan Bingyu, and she said that Master had escorted you home.”
Chi Yue instinctively ignored his last remark, “I’m fine, thank you for your concern.”
“Good to know, Nan Bingyu told me you have adverse reactions when you fall into the water, so I was worried that you would…”
“What are you saying?
Yueyue, when did you fall into the water?” Bai Qing suddenly interrupted Chu Shuo, anxiously grasping Chi Yue’s hand, “Yueyue, how could you end up in the water?”
Chi Yue managed to remain calm, “I’m fine, don’t worry.
I’ll take care of it.”
Chi Yue’s response was an admission that there was something fishy about her falling into the water, and now Bai Qing was even more anxious.
She pulled Chi Yue close for an inspection, and seeing that there were no injuries on her and that her spirits were okay, she let out a sigh of relief. 𝘯𝘰𝑣𝘱𝑢𝘣.𝑐𝑜𝑚
However, she still cautioned, “You know your own situation, so stay away from the water.
What are you going to do if something happens and mom isn’t around to help?”
