Legion was not surprised when they heard what Shawn said. After all, they were not strangers to greed. But they still put on an expression of surprise on their face.
Shawn saw their expression and explained with a melancholic sigh, "Many people believe that my family is in control of the spirit spring, but you and I know that that is only on the surface. The true person in control of the spirit spring is Captain Sheckel and our division. My family can only be content with 50% of the supply."
Legion nearly choked when they heard the grievance in his voice and how he was complaining about 50% as if it were too small.
They wanted to say, "The whole town of thousands is managing 50%. And the twenty or so lamp bearers in this two are managing the 50% with them, but you and your family are complaining that the other 50% is too small for you. What are you doing with the 50% that makes it insufficient?"
Legion didn't say that, but they did ask, "Is there a problem with your share of 50%?"
Shawn nodded. "Yes, there is. Don't get me wrong, the problem isn't with my family. The problem is with the city."
Legion was intrigued, so they asked, "How so?"
Shawn replied, "50% of the supply of energy water is great and all, but we can only barely get by with it. We can only struggle to use that 50% to strengthen ourselves and keep the town safe. Imagine what we could do with more shares of the supply. How great will that be for the town?"
Legion said in understanding, "So you're saying it is in the best interest of the town for your family to gain more of the supply of energy water?"
Shawn was so excited that he clapped. "Exactly. You got exactly what I meant."
Legion shook his head in pity and said, "I guess it is a shame for the town that you only control 50%."
Shawn nodded in sadness too and said, "It truly is."
Legion continued to pretend by sighing and saying, "Unfortunately, there is no way to solve that problem."
Shawn smiled and said, "Maybe there is. Just maybe there is a solution that can solve the problem of the city while also increasing the amount of energy water allocated to you."
Legion looked at him in confusion and asked, "What do you mean?"
Shawn chuckled. "This is not the place to talk. If you're interested, you should come and visit me soon. Let's have lunch together and chat."
Then he said, "I have an appointment to get to, so I'll be leaving now. I'll be expecting you. Just come over when you're interested."
Without waiting for Legion's reaction, he turned to leave. When he reached the door of the prison, he called back and waved, "See you later, Lamp Bearer Levi."
Legion was still frowning in thought as he left. But their face relaxed when he left, and they began to chuckle.
Legion-1 said, "It seems the water is as thick and murky as we expected. The Ivory family is ready to make a move on the Lamp Bearers."
Legion-4 asked, "But what move do they want to make? What do they want us to do for them? We are lamp bearers, so we shouldn't be able to betray the division."
Legion-8 asked, "Why did someone from the family join their enemy? I didn't think that they would do such a thing considering the restrictions of the job. Do they have a way to circumvent the oath they took to the god of justice?"
Legion-12 was confused too. He said, "He is clearly and openly infiltrating the lamp bearers. Didn't that Sheckel lady notice this? If she did, why did she allow it?"
Legion-2 said, "There is a lot going on here that we don't know about. Until we have accurate information and can judge who are truly enemies, we shouldn't take a step into these murky waters ourselves."
Legion-6 agreed. "We weren't going to do anything personally before. We were going to use our tools, but now we have to be very careful, and we must not go and see what the guy means."
Legion-9 sighed and said, "If only we could read minds. We would be able to tell what's on his mind easily and get an inkling of what the Ivory family is planning."
Legion-11 said, "Soon we will reach rank 2. It won't take long to reach rank 3. By then we will be able to turn this two upside down and get rid of this identity."
They had already made up their minds not to have any contact with anyone from the Ivory family because they didn't want anything to link them to the Ivory family and the crime that they are about to orchestrate with them. 𝑛𝘰𝘷𝑝𝘶𝑏.𝑐𝘰𝘮
They wanted to stay away from the scene of the crime as much as possible. What Shawn just did hasn't changed their mind about that. In fact, they are now more certain that they must not get themselves obviously involved with the family.
After settling this, they returned to practicing their ability. But this time, they made sure to lock the door.
They had been too eager to start practicing earlier and didn't lock the door, so Shawn was able to enter the prison easily. They don't want that to happen again, so they made sure to lock the door with the key.
While they were practicing, Shawn left the base and went home. His house was among the huge family estate built close to the spirit spring.
His house is luxurious and something he shouldn't have with his identity as a descendant of the family many times away from the main lineage.
The Ivory family is powerful, but it has grown too large over time. So not everyone in the family gets to enjoy the luxuries of being part of a noble family. Shawn has to be special for him to enjoy this kind of luxury.
