Chapter 669 -554 I have a very important matter to report to the great Moon God’s priest!

Night fell on the capital of the Magic Kingdom, and Ham was leading the musketeer squad in their routine patrol and inspection before the northern city gate.

Although the kingdom had almost dominated the entire continent, many dissenters were still hiding in the shadows, plotting to overthrow the rule of the Wizards and return the world to a dark age where nobles and the church together enslaved the commoners.

Ham would never allow such a thing to happen. A few years ago, he was just a lowly mine slave, whose sole purpose was to toil away in the dark, sunless mines, digging ores until he would one day die in a mining disaster.

As a once most devout believer of the Moon Goddess, Ham had thought everything was predetermined. He believed that the suffering he endured was the great Goddess’s test for him, and the humiliations suffered in life would turn into a blessing after death.

He believed that once he ascended to heaven, he could enjoy endless peace and joy!

However, those Wizard lords used facts to tell him that all this was false, a scam by the church. They made it clear that they did not need to suffer to create happiness for those noble lords, nor did they need to wait until after death to enjoy peace and joy. They could very well live in a heavenly kingdom on earth.

Having experienced hard days, Ham now treasured his current life even more. After becoming the capital’s city guard, he was diligent and responsible, never daring to be negligent for even a day.

As Ham walked past the city tower, he saw several sentinel guards gathered together, gossiping, and immediately frowned, sternly reprimanding them.

“Get back to your posts, all of you! Which captain is responsible for the patrol records today? Where has he gone off to?”

The scolded guards muttered, unable to speak until Ham questioned them sternly again. They then revealed that the captain had just sneaked off to drink with some friends.

Ham’s face immediately darkened, fury rising in his heart, while the few shirking soldiers tried to justify themselves with trepidation.

“Lord Ham, we’re about to change shifts, and the captain only left for a short while. It shouldn’t cause too much of an impact…”

Unlike Ham, who was always vigilant, for most of the capital’s guards, daily patrols and watching over the city were merely a formality.

After all, they believed that the empire’s wars had long since ended and that the capital was the strongest defended place in the entire kingdom, with several grand Wizards present.

Those believers of the Moon God hiding in the shadowy corners like mad dogs, even if they had ten times the courage, wouldn’t dare to target the capital. It would be tantamount to suicide.

“Do you even realize that our kingdom is still at war? Right now, several councilors are leading the kingdom’s most elite troops in battle against those alien demons in the north. This is no time for slackness!” Ham reproached them with frustration.

Although the north was far from here, the council had tightened security in all major cities, increased patrol frequency, and conducted detailed identity checks on everyone entering and leaving the capital.

From the security measures alone, it was clear that even though they were in the rear, they were not 100% safe. Unaware of the existence of the Space-Time Gate, Ham suspected that this was mostly to prevent troublemakers from causing unrest under the cover of the current opportunity.

Ham sharply reprimanded the shirking guards and was just about to have someone fetch the absent captain for punishment when he unexpectedly saw a large group of people approaching the north gate.

“Master Garwin, why have you come back?” Ham immediately recognized the grand Wizard and eagerly went to meet him.

“I have… very important matters… that must be reported to the esteemed Priest of the great Moon God. Let me pass!” Garwin’s words seemed awkward, as though he had only just learned to speak.

“Moon God?” Ham looked at Master Garwin with a bizarre gaze, then exchanged a glance with a few guards who showed expressions of astonishment, subtly saying, “I might need to send someone to report this.”

“No need, I’ll go in by myself.” Garwin had noticed the subtle changes in the guards’ expressions and insisted firmly.

“Please wait a moment, Master. The entire capital is under martial law, and every person entering or leaving must be logged and reported…” Ham tried to appease the grand Wizard as a guard discretely sent a report.

“I’ll say it only once, step aside! This is critical information!” Garwin stated uncompromisingly, already preparing to cast a spell.

Yet Ham was even more decisive. Realizing that Garwin intended to forcefully enter, he shouted loudly.

“Attack, we’re under attack!”

The guards were also prepared, as the other party’s claims were far too absurd.

Reporting to the great Priest of the Moon God?

This made them wonder if the person impersonating Master Garwin had lost his mind?

Even those crazy church believers wouldn’t use such a shoddy disguise; this was clearly a provocation!

The new-model muskets of the capital guards no longer required loading ammunition before battle, they could now be fired directly by raising the barrel!

However, the continuous barrage of bullets came to a halt five centimeters from Garwin’s body before speeding back even faster, piercing through the armor of the guards and causing wails of agony to ring out in front of the city gates.

Fortunately, although the kingdom’s guards had become somewhat lax due to the recent peace, it had been less than a year since the war with the church ended, and they still displayed the expected quality. With Ham’s warning, a large number of patrol teams immediately came to their aid.

The wizards stationed there also used electromagnetic wave communication to send the news of the attack into the capital.

Cecil, lurking outside the capital, cast a cold glance at Walok beside him. If it weren’t for this foolish dragon devouring those people’s souls, preventing him from accessing their memories, forcing him to temporarily learn the common language of this plane through the Divine Arts’ “Comprehension of Language,” how could he have been so easily exposed.

“I have already sensed it; there is no aura of a powerful being in this city. You’re too cautious, Cecil, this is just a waste of our time…” Walok let out an inspiring roar before spreading its wings and flying towards the capital of the Magic Kingdom, ready to slaughter the city and offer death as a tribute for the great Necromancy lord to descend!

At this point, Cecil said no more and immediately lifted the concealing spell on the numerous undead, initiating a slaughter on the nearest native city.

“Quick, stop them!” “Close the gates, close the gates quickly!”

Cries of urgency echoed inside the capital, and as more support arrived, Garwin and his ilk, who were trying to break into the city, were quickly killed by two arriving archwizards.

“Damn it, it’s Necromancy!” Archwizard Bird was enraged.

He had thought the report he received was about someone disguising themselves as Garwin and others trying to infiltrate the city; little did he expect that someone had killed them and was using Necromancy to control their corpses.

This meant there was a problem with the Space-Time Gate!

The very next moment, Archwizard Bird realized his suspicion was true as a massive silhouette appeared in the sky above the capital—a gargantuan skeletal dragon over a hundred meters in length, with a ferocious and terrifying appearance. Its aura was so intimidating that many cowardly guards were paralyzed with fear, unable to move.

Walok, the Dragon of Cold Winter, opened its maw wide and unleashed a horrifying blast of icy breath, a mix of extreme cold and resentful spirits, capable of instantly freezing any creature to death while stealing their souls.

However, an invisible magic barrier quickly rose at various points of the capital, intercepting the freezing Breath.

As one of the Magic Kingdom’s core regions, the capital naturally had the highest level of protection!

Inside the central magic tower was an Alchemy Array laid out by Vittorio and a dozen alchemy masters. Even legendary spells would find it difficult to break through.

The Dragon of Cold Winter, Walok, swung its tail furiously, hitting the protective barrier hard and causing ripples to spread out. Bird watched with a pounding heart, knowing that they would have no way of fighting back against such a monster if the protective Array were damaged.

But they couldn’t carry on like this, their magic power reserves were not infinite. Facing the fierce assault of a legendary creature, they could hold out for at most a minute or so, making it unlikely they’d last until reinforcements arrived.

It seemed they had no choice but to use that!

Archwizard Bird thought to himself; they had a secret weapon capable of threatening a legend, the Sun Furnace located below the city in the magic tower.

As Bird was thinking, the three archwizards responsible for guarding the Sun Furnace sprang into action, activating the Ascension ritual Formation.

This Alchemy Array could gather the endless energy from the Sun Furnace. If it could be used for ascension, it could certainly be used for attack!

With three archwizards working together to channel, they could unleash a legendary spell— the Judgement Spear—by harnessing the power of fusion!

The Dragon of Cold Winter, Walok, raging and vandalizing the magic barrier, suddenly felt a premonition and ceased its assault, taking flight to evade. But a massive column of light already burst forth from the ground, piercing straight through its right wing.

Together with a painful roar of the dragon, the massive body plummeted from the sky.

Cecil, who had stayed out of the fray, watched as the fallen Dragon of Cold Winter, Walok, showed no surprise. Exposing oneself so carelessly before fully understanding the enemy was undoubtedly the most foolish act.

Taking advantage of the distraction caused by Walok, Cecil quietly used the bodies of Garwin and others to launch the Corpse Explosion Technique! 𝘯𝘰𝑣𝘱𝑢𝘣.𝑐𝑜𝑚

A surge of dark green poison fog immediately erupted from the numerous dismembered corpses, enveloping several guards who were about to transport the bodies…
