Chapter 147: _ Your Father is My Soulmate

Rhett stared at me for a long moment, his expression unreadable. "Expectations," he finally said. "Right now, Isleen, the only expectation I have is for you to trust me. This connection we share— it’s powerful, dangerous even. But I promise you, I won’t lead you astray. If you want us to make our reveal today, I’m your guy. But whatever you decide, I’ll respect your decision."

"Let’s meet tomorrow night." I didn’t know when the words escaped me.

I had blurted out those words before realizing what I had said. It was, however, too late for redemption.

Rhett’s mouth twisted in amusement. "Look who is finally being honest with herself."

Rhett’s amusement only intensified my fluster. I mumbled a weak defense, "I-I just..."

He cut me off with a low chuckle. "Don’t worry, beautiful Omega," he teased. "I won’t bite... at least not yet."

His words held a double meaning– the playful threat was both thrilling and terrifying. Did he enjoy having this kind of power over me?

He had bitten me before. Would he do it again?

Heat flooded my cheeks as I realized he was right. He held all the cards in this game, this unconventional dance we were engaged in. A part of me craved the thrill, the danger of exploring this connection further.

But another part, the more cautious side, whispered warnings of potential heartbreak. Not just of mine but others– others like Kylo.

But that wasn’t a new thing and I had made my decision. What did I truly want? A fling fueled by desire, or something more?

Rhett then gently tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear, his fingers lingering on my skin for a moment too long. "Tomorrow night then," he murmured, not giving me a chance to change my mind.

Not that I wanted to anyway.

"Meet me just a few blocks away from the headquarters. I will take us somewhere and we’ll have our little— discussion." His emphasis on the word ’discussion’ planted ideas in my head.

Was he trying to reassure me, or was there something else in his mind?

Which one did I want? Like hell, I wanted that ’something else’.

I could only manage a silent nod as my voice was stolen by a mix of apprehension and anticipation.

Rhett’s gaze held mine for a long moment, his dark eyes seeming to probe the depths of my soul. Then, with a final, lingering touch on my cheek, he turned and strode out of the kitchen, leaving me alone with the echo of his words and the turmoil in my heart.

This man would be my undoing. Funny it was the type of undoing I wanted and yearned for. What had become of me?

Once again, my throat suddenly felt even dryer. I had to stand yo and pour myself another gulp of water which I downed at a go.

As I turned to leave the kitchen with a smile on my face, a figure emerged from the hallway, making me jump in surprise.

"Kylo?" I exclaimed, guilt welling up inside of me at the sight of him.

Why did it have to be him? Why did I have to see him? Why now?

Hold on a second. I hope he didn’t see me and Gamma Rhett...

But I didn’t think so by the way he looked equally startled, blinking at me owlishly. "Isleen? What are you doing up?"

"Couldn’t sleep," I mumbled, trying to appear casual.

The lie tasted bitter on my tongue. I couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about your father, Kylo. And just a few moments ago, I was in his arms, kissing and almost devouring him.

That was the truth.

He rubbed his eyes sleepily. "Me neither. My boss just called, some emergency at work apparently. I gotta head in."

"Oh," I said. "Business will be opened today despite the attack last night?" I asked in wonder.

Kylo shook his head, hands touching his thighs sheepishly. Look how far apart I and Kylo had drifted. I could tell he was nervous as though he was talking to a stranger.

Perhaps, there was a high chance I wasn’t the only one feeling the guilt. Seeing how nervous he seemed, I could tell Kylo had done something wrong.

I know him way too well.

"It seems the workplace got affected by the fire last night, so all workers are needed to come to do some quick fix, I think." Kylo scratched his head and explained.

I couldn’t help a remark. "By the moon, that’s bad. That might not leave just you but the other workers jobless."

"Tough times for our pack."

"Well, you better get going then."

"Yeah," he nodded, still looking a little dazed. "Make yourself at home with the others. Dad won’t be back for a while."

A tiny flicker of protest rose in my throat, but I swallowed it down. That was the same thing he told us that made me feel so relaxed until I bumped into Gamma Rhett.

"Actually, your dad is home."

Kylo’s eyes widened. I saw undisguised fear flickered across his face. "How... how do you know that?"

"I saw him just a few minutes ago," I explained hastily.

That was a lie. I saw him, spoke to him, touched him, and kissed him. Father help me for I am taking quite a big step and walking a bold path.

Kylo’w fear intensified. "Did he see you?"

"Yes."

He groaned, burying his face in his hands. "This is bad. Like, really bad."

"What’s wrong?" I frowned.

Nothing is bad, Kylo. Your father was genuinely happy to see me. He kissed me. We were going to meet tomorrow night, don’t you see?

Your father and I are soulmates.

"Did he say anything?" Kylo and I shook my head.

"Phew! Dad doesn’t like anyone wandering around the house, especially strangers."

My cheeks burned anew. "Oh."

"You okay?" He regarded me with a worried frown. "Did he seem— angry that I brought you guys here?"

"No, not at all," I lied readily.

Kylo didn’t need to know the truth, not yet.
