Chapter 191: Interrogating Cullen

"Yes? Don’t keep me in suspense, Farkas." Rhett narrowed his eyes, his fingers drumming on the table impatiently.

Before he could utter another word, however, his office door burst wide open, and in came Farkas who still had his phone glued to his ear.

"If the impatient Gamma could’ve let me finish, I was about to say that I’m heading to your office to give you the full report," Farkas said, his tone laced with sarcasm.

Rhett shook his head, dropping his phone before muttering impatiently still. "Go on."

Farkas kept his gaze on him for a few seconds before sitting down. Then, he began. "It’s been confirmed. All the blood in that house belongs to one victim. Nick."

Rhett nodded, urging Farkas to continue.

"On the day of his murder, Nick was last seen in two different locations. ’The Wolf Claw Bar’ and ’Motel Ethereal’. We interrogated people in both locations and they said the same thing: ’he was in a hurry’." Farkas reported solemnly.

Rhett furrowed his brows, a thought crossing his mind. "In a hurry? To where? And was he with anyone?"

"According to witnesses, Nick left the bar accompanied by a wolf who we’ve identified as ’Cullen’. They seemed to be in a hurry to Motel Ethereal." Farkas revealed.

Rhett raised his brows in surprise.

Cullen? Isleen’s roommate who was currently living at his house? What could we’ve had with the victim?

"In a hurry to do, what?" He mused out loud, mostly to himself.

Farkas shrugged, "Beats me. I guess we’ll have to go ask him."

Rhett had seen the young man today during the screening. He didn’t seem to be anything out of the ordinary. He had a feeling he shouldn’t trust him, but he doubted it. It just didn’t make sense to him that the vampire would go through all that stress, only to shape-shift to the form of someone who literally lives under his roof.

"I’ll go interrogate him myself. He, Isleen, and another of their friend are living in my house at the moment since their houses were lost to the last attack." He announced decisively.

Farkas creased his brows, a surprised look flashing through his face. "Your house? Why did you let them stay at yours?"

Because Isleen was his mate and it was the least he could do. Kylo had been the one who brought them in the first place, so he actually did the bare minimum.

The thought of potentially seeing Isleen today made his wolf howl in excitement. He subconsciously licked his teeth, as he pictured her naked body from the night before. His skin itched when he went further and pictured her pinned under him. However, he pinched himself before his imagination could go further, groaning silently in frustration.

Argh!

He knew he told himself to give her space, but he couldn’t resist her for so long. And he’d just be dropping by anyway.

But he couldn’t share his inner turmoil with Farkas who watched on silently, his gaze curious. Not yet. But he secretly couldn’t wait to.

"Kylo invited them and I couldn’t just drive them away when they have nowhere else to go. I’m not a monster, Farkas." He answered his question hastily with a grunt, as he got up. "I should go interrogate him now. It’s getting late. My schedule for the coming weeks is booked."

Without waiting for Farkas to utter another word, Rhett scurried out of the office, slamming the door behind him, leaving a concerned Farkas behind.

.

Rhett parked in front of his house, taking in a deep breath. He had to keep his composure, working hard to not just burst in there, apprehend Cullen, and force him to admit being the vampire. He needed to approach this situation with caution, lest he scare him off if he really was the vampire.

Here goes...

He stepped out, walked to his door, and knocked. No reply.

Squinting his eyes, Rhett was about to force the door open, but it suddenly swerved open by itself. Nothing could’ve prepared him for who he saw.

Isleen.

"G-Gamma Rhett? Why’re you knocking on your own door?" Isleen seemed shocked to see him at first but struggled hard to remain calm.

He gulped, feeling like his mouth suddenly dried up. His eyes wandered Isleen’s body, before landing on her neck. She had a scarf covering the mate mark – his mate mark.

He wanted to just rip it off her neck and declare right there that Isleen was his. But once again, he controlled his impulses, keeping his wolf in check.

"I’m here to see your friend Cullen. Is he in?" Rhett asked, trying to look into the house. As he did so, he unintentionally leaned close to Isleen’s body, causing his body to tense up.

He looked down at Isleen and his heart almost leaped into his throat when he caught her looking up at him. Their gazes held so many unspoken words, their hearts beating in tandem. Their breathing became heavy with desire, with a need that neither of them wanted to ignore. But just before they could lean in and kiss each other, a voice interrupted their little moment, coughing from behind Isleen.

They both looked back, only to see Cullen standing there awkwardly.

"Good afternoon, Gamma Rhett." Cullen waved, his lips curving into a smile.

Rhett began studying his body language, voice tone, and facial expressions but found nothing out of the ordinary.

But he wasn’t going to let his guard down just yet.

Not waiting for Isleen to move, he stepped in, their bodies brushing past each other. He caught a whiff of her scent but took in a deep breath.

Focus Rhett!

"How’re you doing, Cullen? Are you preparing for the camp orientation tomorrow?" He asked with a slight smile.

He couldn’t care less about any of that, but he knew what he was doing. He wanted to sound casual, wanted to make him feel comfortable before interrogating him. Then, he’d look closely for any signs of deceit.

Nothing was going to stop him from finding the killer today.
