Chapter 209: Speaking To The Dark Lord

Fergus

~~

Delicious!

Absolutely delicious!

Isleen basically gave him all the information he needed to know about her little ’forbidden romance’ with Gamma Rhett. And now he had her little confession recorded on Cullen’s phone, unbeknownst to the naive Isleen.

Now it would be a piece of cake turning Kylo against his father and his ex. Once that happened, his mission would be close to completion.

Fergus feigned concern and sympathy throughout Isleen’s confession, making sure to give her a listening ear throughout all her yapping... No matter how painfully annoying it was.

He had something else in mind though. Something that would help him with his mission when the time came. He was going to volunteer to join the enlisted wolves. Even though that would increase the risk of him being found, he was willing to take that risk. Time was running out and the dark lord Vlad was getting impatient. He’d never failed him before and he wasn’t going to start now.

So when Isleen went upstairs to have her bathe, he walked outside, but not before announcing his departure with a yell. Once outside, Fergus breathed in, a surge of adrenaline rushing through him when the sun touched his skin.

Being a vampire who could walk freely under the sun made him feel powerful. He WAS powerful. And he couldn’t wait for when he could finally show his true nature to everyone in the pack, before killing them like sheep in a slaughterhouse. Oh, that day would be glorious!

He finally reached the station, which was where the screening for the enlistment program was taking place. And to his delight, Gamma Rhett and the pack’s Beta were the ones overseeing the screening exercise.

"So, Cullen Freeman..." Gamma Rhett began, jotting his name down in the log book before raising his head, his piercing gaze meeting his. "You wish to volunteer and join our enlistment program. Care to tell us why?"

Because it’s simply a means to an end you old geezer; was the first thought that flashed through Fergus’s head. But instead of saying that, he smiled, crossing his arms in front of his chest before replying.

"Why, I wish to serve my pack and indeed all werewolf kind in whatever little way possible, Gamma. I can’t just stand by and watch innocents die." Fergus had a solemn look on his face, feigning solidarity.

The last part of his statement was a half-truth though. He couldn’t just stand by and watch his brothers and sisters have all the fun while killing the wolves. He wanted in on the fun, and what better way to get that than being at the front lines?

However, the uptight Gamma didn’t seem to buy his motivations for volunteering, as he arched an eyebrow with suspicion.

As for the Beta, he seemed disconnected from the whole thing, looking at Cullen with a disinterested yawn before speaking. "Listen, I get it. You’re a young wolf with a commendable passion to prove himself. But, do you know what’s at stake here? Are you aware of the consequences? We’re talking about a month of hard training, during which you’ll be sent on missions to fend off vampire threats. And after that, you’ll be sent alongside your fellow fighters in the main army to face off against the full force of the..."

Fergus nodded his head at every word the Beta said, though his voice slowly started becoming distant in his head. He creased his brows but then his face was etched with reverence when he heard the voice in his head.

It was him! It... It was the dark lord!

"Ferguson. I believe it is time for me to receive new information regarding the mission. Has it been successfully done?" The dark lord’s voice was indescribable, as he spoke to Fergus through the blood link he had with all vampires.

The voice was piercing, but yet calm. It was androgynous, but yet held a gruff deepness that was hard to ignore.

Fergus was tense, an overwhelming sense of respect and undying loyalty surging inside him. The dark lord was the only being in existence who was able to provoke such a reaction from him.

"Not yet, my Lord. But I assure you, I am close. Very close to completing my mission." Fergus replied mentally with confidence, while simultaneously nodding his head at whatever bull crud the Beta had just uttered in real life.

His head became silent, even though he could still feel Lord Vlad’s presence lurking. After a few grueling seconds, he finally spoke again. "Time is of the essence, Fergus. The more time we waste, the more likely it’ll be for that wolf to grow more powerful. He’s a stumbling block in the way of my plans that MUST be put down."

Fergus felt a cold shiver run down his spine when Vlad had finished speaking.

Fear! He, the great Fergus, lord of the shadows, actually felt fear. And it was all because of his one true master.

"Understood, my liege." Fergus conveyed his understanding. However, before the dark lord could cut off the link, Fergus hastily added. "The Raven Wood pack is making preparations to begin training civilians to join their fight, my liege. And it seems the Gamma’s son is one of the candidates."

Vlad scoffed inside Fergus’s head before speaking with an uninterested tone. "That’s meaningless information, Fergus. Just get the mission done as quickly as possible. I’m already aware of the Raven Wood pack’s pitiful attempt at defending themselves and I have a little surprise for them, expected on the day of their orientation. Just keep watch and take notes."

And with that, Lord Vlad cut off the link, his voice no longer sounding in Fergus’s head. But before Fergus could process the whole conversation and the surreal feeling of being spoken to by the vampire lord, Beta Darius’s annoying voice snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Earth to Cullen!" He yelled, his face contorting into an annoyed frown.

"Hmm?" Fergus managed to mutter after raising his eyebrows curiously.

Darius and Rhett glanced at each other before sighing in unison. However, that seemed to irk them for some reason, as the two glared at each other.

"That’ll be all, Cullen. You’re in." Gamma Rhett finalized with a shrug after turning his gaze away from Darius. "Make sure you’re here tomorrow for the orientation. Good luck."

Fergus couldn’t help grinning to himself as he got out of the tent. Oh, this was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
