Chapter 238: Watch Her Cry

After drinking to his satisfaction, Fergus cleaned his mouth and sighed. As fun as the experience was, he couldn’t help feeling this overwhelming sense of emptiness eating him up inside.

It was as if he was missing something and killing people only made that more obvious now.

As he looked at Lupe’s dead body, he almost felt... Sorry? Nah, that couldn’t be it. He, Fergus, feels ’sorry’ for a meaningless mortal?

They were all crops, waiting to be harvested by those who were powerful like himself. He couldn’t care less.

"I guess there’ll be no use hiding this body. I just have to hurry back to the camp now." He muttered to himself and rushed up to Kylo’s room where he’d snuck into the house, but then picked up a scent.

He recognized this perfume a little too well. It smelt like strawberries, spring flowers, and everything sweet that irked him to no end. But it also smelt annoyingly soothing because of who wore it...

Isleen.

She had been in this room before she left the house. Maybe if she’d been around too, he would’ve damned all consequences and taken her to somewhere hidden and locked her up there until he had completed his mission and gotten rid of Gamma Rhett.

That stupid mate of hers!

He couldn’t help imagining how her cries would sound when she came back and saw her friend’s dead body. And that made him imagine how she’d sound when he finally got her under him.

Oh, it would go glorious!

But he didn’t have time to imagine that right now. He couldn’t risk someone getting into the house and spotting him there.

He quickly took off his blood-soiled clothes and washed off any remnants of blood on his body.

As he changed into some fresh new clothes from Kylo’s wardrobe, however, he still couldn’t shake off the image of Isleen’s cries.

He knew he had to leave, but a part of him wanted to stay. Stay and wait until he could watch her cry. Stay and watch her wish for revenge against her friend’s killer while he comforts her with false pity. He would hug and caress her, taking in her scent as she sobbed under his hold.

"What in hell’s name is wrong with you, Fergus!" He suddenly groaned in annoyance, slapping his head out of frustration. "This is Isleen. Simple, annoying, uninteresting Isleen. Why are you letting her occupy your thoughts?!"

He brushed his hand through his hair as he took a cologne that Cullen had kept for himself before spraying it on his body, in a desperate move to overwhelm the lingering smell of blood on his body.

The cologne was not his cup of tea, but oh well.

He moved toward the window and then proceeded to leap down.

No sooner had his legs touched the ground than when he took off with his vamp speed, putting as much distance as possible between himself and the scene.

He had to disappear... For now at least.

It didn’t take him long to leave the pack’s outskirts and venture into the woods. Eventually, he reached the campgrounds and then slowed down below a tree.

After listening keenly to check if there was anyone nearby, he finally stepped out of the tree’s shade and walked toward his tent like he hadn’t just taken someone’s life with sadistic glee.

Fucking Isleen’s friend had proven more exhilarating than whatever experience he’d had with the inexperienced Kylo the other night.

Speaking of which, time had gone by so fast since he left the camp. He’d left just when the sun was beginning to rise, before any of the other soldiers, but now the sun was up, shining brightly above the thick covering of the trees surrounding the campgrounds.

Luckily, the camp was still fast asleep and he could snuck past the patrolling pack soldiers with ease.

He got to the tent, but luckily, Kylo was still asleep alongside the rest of his teammates. He positioned himself on the bed and was about to reminisce on the experience of killing Lupe when an annoyingly loud alarm blared.

Drats! It was time for their stupid training.

Luckily for him, none of the tent mates, including Kylo, suspected him of anything as they changed into their uniforms given to them by the pack soldiers.

The so-called "exercise" was boring as hell to Fergus. The only part he enjoyed slightly was watching the stupefied look on Osmond’s face when he used a little of his vamp speed to help him run past other representatives when it was his turn.

Throughout the exercise, he noticed Gamma Rhett glancing at him once in a while. The fool probably suspected something was up. He was good, he’d give him that!

However, things got interesting when Rhett suddenly took an excuse and disappeared, telling Aceco that he’d gone to handle "something". That something was probably Isleen, but then again, maybe he just wanted to report the details of last night’s attack.

Speaking of Isleen, she would probably soon be back home by now. More and more he wished he could go back just to get a look at her reaction when she sees Lupe’s dead body.

At the end of the exercise, Fergus was amused when the Beta’s nephew caused a heated argument between the fey and wolves. However, Aceco stole the fun and cautioned all of them before dismissing them.

Hmph! These enlisted soldiers were supposed to face the vampires? Pfft... Tough luck!

He and Kylo entered the tent before Celest and Osmond, so he decided to use their little time to tease the Gamma’s son and get deeper into his head.

"Dude, a little personal space please?" Kylo shoved him away with a frustrated grunt when he couldn’t take his invasion anymore. "How many times should I say this, I am–"

"Not gay?" Fergus cut in, rolling his eyes at him. "Yeah, whatever you say Kylo boy. But you can’t deny that you’re attracted to me."

The boy could deny it all he wanted, he didn’t care. All he knew was that soon... He would come around and he would use him to complete his mission.

All the pieces were beginning to fall into place.
