Chapter 248: The Chosen One Revealed
As we got closer to the gate, the feeling got stronger. My special ability was on full drive and sensed a presence.
It belonged to a fey, but the magic I sensed was unlike any I’d ever felt from a fey before. It made Aceco seem dull in comparison.
When we finally got inside, I soon found out who the magic presence belonged to. My eyes went wide as I gawked at the magnificent figure before me.
A beautiful woman stood close to the front entrance of the building, her long white hair flowing around her like clouds. She had a pair of butterfly-shaped wings that looked like precious stones and a crown of flowers on her head.
The white gown she wore made her seem even more... holy.
Just then, her eyes trailed in my direction, staring at me with curiosity.
"And this is?" a gruff voice that gave off a scholarly vibe asked, causing me to turn my gaze to a man and a woman standing beside the fairy.
Oh, right. I’d gotten so enchanted by the fairy’s beauty that I almost forgot this was the Alpha’s house.
The man wore a fancy form-fitting attire and had a well-trimmed beard and goatee. As for the woman beside him, she wore a simple dark blue day dress and looked quite youthful.
These were definitely the pack’s Alpha and Luna. I’d seen pictures of them and had also seen them on TV, but never in real life.
Suddenly, Rhett cleared his throat before speaking. "This is Isleen Gracia. She has a special ability that we believe will be of great help in the war." He glanced at me just then, his eyes filled with pride.
My face flushed in embarrassment as I bowed slightly. "It’s an honor to meet you, Alpha Beowulf and Luna Dawn."
I raised my head just in time to see Alpha Beowulf arching an eyebrow curiously at me. "Isleen... isn’t she your son’s girlfriend? The one who adopted the vampire when he was still disguised as that wolf cub." He blurted.
My heart sank when I heard those words. I diverted my eyes away from his as I felt like my dirty loins had been left out in the open to dry.
All eyes were now on me, some judgemental, while others seemed to pity me. The few pack soldiers present remained silent, but their silence was disturbing still.
Oh, moon goddess, what do I do?
"She’s my son’s ex-girlfriend, yes." Rhett corrected before pausing. He glanced at me, his eyes gleaming with uncertainty.
Eventually, he drew in a deep breath and held my hand, grasping it tightly in his. "But she’s also, my mate." He uttered.
Alpha Beowulf’s mouth formed an ’o’ as he looked on in bewilderment between Rhett and me. He was probably thinking what almost everyone else was thinking. He probably thought I was a traitor, going behind my ex-boyfriend’s back and clinging to his father.
He probably thought I was using Rhett to my advantage, for his money and status.
But whatever it was any of them thought about me, I didn’t care. Rhett had surprised me with this display he just pulled off. If he could be bold enough to admit that we were mates in front of all these pack soldiers and fey, then why couldn’t I?
Suddenly, the beautiful fairy woman standing beside Alpha Beowulf spoke up. "The wonders of the mate bond." her wings fluttered as she flew toward me and Rhett.
Aceco cleared her throat. "Yes, uh, Isleen meet the leader of all fairies... the fairy Queen." Her voice was filled with reverence when she spoke.
It was my turn to open my mouth in shock. The Fairy Queen? And I’d be gawking at her like an underfed chicken since I stepped foot into the compound. Oh gosh, I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me so bad right now.
"Pardon my ignorance, your majesty." I bowed, cursing silently when she didn’t respond to me.
Instead...
"You mentioned that she has a... ’special ability ’. Care to elaborate?" she circled me as I awaited a response from Rhett.
"Ah, yes. Her ability is a blessing from the moon goddess that allows her to sense beings who’re not werewolves within a certain range." He blurted out all at once.
However, instead of the fairy Queen, it was Alpha Beowulf who spoke up next. "Fascinating. Can she use this ability at will?" He asked Rhett as if I wasn’t standing right there.
Before Rhett could reply to him again, however, Aceco spoke up. "We’ll discuss all that later. For now, we should really address the main issues on ground."
Everyone present fell silent in that Instant as Alpha Beowulf finally backed away from me with a raise of his hands. But now I was curious about what the ’main issues’ were.
Just then, the Fairy Queen said. "Thank you, Aceco. Now, in my vision, I saw this figure, the chosen one. He will be the one to lead the wolves to victory against the vampires. His power will be what finally kills the vampire Lord, Vlad."
What the...?
The chosen one? Did everyone here know Rhett’s the chosen one?
Suddenly, as if to emphasize my thoughts, Alpha Beowulf asked. "Pardon me, your grace, but weren’t you shown who this chosen one is in your vision?"
The Fairy Queen shook her head solemnly. "I was only shown in this vision that he shall come out of this pack. Whoever he is, he’s aware of his status and is probably waiting for the right moment to reveal himself."
I glanced at Rhett with the corner of my eyes, wondering when he would reveal himself. With everything that’d been happening so far, now felt like the perfect time to come out of his shell.
But it was his decision to make at the end of the day.
Just then, however, Rhett let go of my hand and stepped forward. He looked around the compound, his eyes scanning through every face present.
"I am the chosen one."
