Chapter 253: Maybe There’s Hope

Dew turned out to be way more interesting than expected. She had a brother and a father who she moved into the pack with after one of the vampires’ attacks on Enchantee— the realm of the fey.

She’s been the main breadwinner of her family after landing a job at a top-class hotel within the pack. As a room service staff.

Kylo didn’t have much to share with her other than the fact that he was the Gamma’s son and one of the enlisted soldiers. Talking to her proved to be a breath of fresh air. He felt at peace. She brought him peace.

After her break was up, Kylo escorted her to the hotel.

"Well, this was fun." He blurted with a nervous smile.

They were currently standing outside the hotel and about to part ways.

Dew chuckled softly. "Yeah, I had a good time. We should do this more often." She winked at him in the end.

They both laughed and at that moment, Kylo looked into her eyes. Her eyes were hazel and reminded him of the forest and sea all at the same time.

She paused and looked into his eyes as well, and it seemed time had stopped at that moment. It was going to happen.

He leaned in gently, his face inching closer and closer to hers.

Just when he thought she was going to reject him or something, she drew closer as well and her lips landed on his. They kissed. They were actually kissing!

Kylo closed his eyes as he let the sensation of the kiss surge through his body. He placed both his hands gently on her waist, drawing her closer to his body.

Surprisingly, she reciprocated his touch by wrapping her arms around his neck. It was nothing short of electric.

Her lips tasted like citrus and reminded him of spring. After what felt like an eternity, they finally broke off the kiss.

"T– that was..." He trailed off, breathless.

"I guess you felt it too." Dew, on the other hand, seemed more collected. "The bond. It’s like... It’s like our souls are joined together in a weird way. Almost like–"

"Like we’re fated?" Kylo completed her statement with a wry smile.

She didn’t even know the half of it, and honestly, he didn’t blame her.

"Let’s keep in touch." She suddenly muttered, bringing out her phone.

They exchanged contacts and soon waved each other goodbye. Kylo watched her walking into the building, ignoring all the other people trooping in and out of the hotel.

He smiled to himself. Maybe there was hope in this dark world they lived in. Maybe the moon goddess’ ways were the right ones.

He shook his head, taking one final glance at the hotel building before walking away. On his way to his old man’s house, he had this weird feeling. Like someone had been following him.

But he ignored it as soon as he opened the door and walked into the house.

However, what he saw next took him completely off guard.

"Uhh... What the heck did I walk into?" He arched an eyebrow as his eyes landed on Cullen and Isleen.

They were in a weird position, with Cullen’s face only inches away from Isleen’s, while she had her back against the wall. She, on the other hand, looked... Scared?

Scared of who, Cullen? Seriously, what were they doing?

Isleen jolted when he walked in and tried explaining herself, but he didn’t have time for her lies. He shook his head and walked away.

Maybe ’super gay Cullen ’ wasn’t so gay after all. Whatever, he wouldn’t let Isleen ruin his happy mood.

He brought out his phone and soon saw a message from Dew.

"Hey, cutie." Her text read.

He chuckled and replied to her. When he got into his room and took off his jacket, time went by as they chatted. He was kicking his feet on the bed as he giggled like a little girl at her messages.

Dew could be funny on chat. He barely even registered when Cullen walked in or even when he sat on his bed across the room. He could feel him watching him but chose to ignore him.

The dude could be a real creep.

But eventually, Cullen broke the long silence. "I guess you’re wondering what was happening between Isleen and me."

Kylo rolled his eyes. The last thing he needed this night was drama.

"Look at this face, Cullen." He managed to raise his head off his phone and turned his gaze to him. "Does this look like the face of someone who cares?"

Cullen blinked with a stupid smile. Yeah... He thought so.

Kylo shook his head and turned his gaze back to his phone. He and Dew chatted a little more before she mentioned that she had to get back to work.

He was already missing her but they agreed to see each other the next day. Early in the morning.

Kylo rushed to the bathroom and took a quick bath before hopping into bed. Hope... He had lots of it right now.

.

.

The alarm woke Kylo up, signaling to him that it was morning. He rubbed his eyes and stretched his arms, turning his head around the room.

Suddenly, the curtains parted, causing him to dim his eyes at the sunlight coming through his window.

"Good morning, sleepy head." Turns out it was Cullen, standing there with a mischievous grin on his face. "Looks like someone slept like a baby."

Kylo smirked. He had no idea.

"Don’t you have someone else to disturb, Cullen?" He asked after jumping out of bed.

He scratched his neck as he walked into the bathroom to wash his face. He’d promised Dew to meet her up in the hotel on time before she officially closed her shift at around eight AM.

Cullen looked unusually excited and leaned against the wall where the window was. "Nope."

And... He was done here. Kylo sighed and opened the door to head downstairs. He wanted to grab something to eat before dressing up and going to see Dew.

When he climbed down the stairs and reached the living room, however, he met Isleen gazing intently at the TV screen.

He was about to ignore her existence when he paused, his eyes landing on the TV.

"This just in... A body has been found at the Aurora Hotel this morning." The reporter began with a solemn tone. "The victim is said to be a staff member of the hotel and is a fairy. She appears to have died of suffocation, but the pack’s soldiers’ investigators are certain that this is a murder."

Kylo dropped his phone on the ground when the picture of the murder victim was shown. His heart lurched, squeezing like there was a weight tied to it.

No...
