Chapter 266: The Underworld
In the blink of an eye, another two weeks had passed and the moment Rhett had been waiting for finally arrived. The time to take the fight to the vampires was nigh.
So much had happened during these two weeks. Kylo was kept in isolation due to his dwindling mental health, receiving healing and therapy from Aceco herself.
The pain of losing his girlfriend to his father and then losing his true mate to death mere hours after he met her was just too much.
Within these two weeks, Rhett and Isleen also began making their relationship more public as their love blossomed. Some supported them, but many within the pack criticized them still, calling Isleen a betrayer for going after her boyfriend’s father.
But through all this, Rhett held Isleen close, comforting her and being the rock she desperately needed. The scorn from the people only helped their bond to go deeper than even the mate bond.
Anyway, the vampires had taken over so many territories around the world, but their main headquarters, where the vampire Lord also resided, was known as the ’Underworld’.
There was not much known about the underworld, but it was widely known that it was located underground, to protect the vampires from sunlight.
Currently, Rhett and the leaders of the humans and fey were gathered around a round table in a hall in Alpha Beowulf’s duplex. The Alpha himself wasn’t of much importance in the meeting but was present since it was his house.
Rhett was against the idea at first, not wanting to burden her, but eventually, Isleen was also allowed to join the meeting due to her important special ability.
Standing for the humans was a man who was the president of the United States and two women and two men representing other countries in the G7.
As for the fey, the fairy Queen, Aceco, the elven King, and the Queen of the nymphs were gathered to represent them in this meeting.
Rhett, Alpha Beowulf, Isleen, and a few other Alphas of some of the most notable packs in the world were representing the werewolves.
To begin the meeting, the fairy Queen cleared her throat with a solemn tone. "Have the werewolf scouts been able to gather any new information on the layout of the underworld?"
That question was directed at Rhett, who as the chosen one, was made in charge of the entire allied military of the werewolves.
Rhett sighed before shaking his head. "Nothing new, unfortunately. I was hoping the fey would have some new information instead. The vampires are very cunning, especially with the vampire Lord backing them."
The human leaders mumbled among themselves, and soon enough, the president representing the United States and North America scoffed. "It’s been two weeks, Gamma Rhett. Time is not on our side. The more time we waste, the more chance we give to those bloodsuckers to turn our people and add them to their ranks."
Rhett clenched his jaw but he still managed to remain calm as he asked. "And do you think I’m not aware of that? My hands are tied, Mr. President. That’s the essence of this alliance; no single race can face the vampires alone, especially now that their numbers have reached such a peak."
The human leaders mumbled among themselves, making Rhett question why he let them be a part of this in the first place.
Humans were blissfully unaware of the existence of the supernatural world until the vampires broke the treaty and started attacking humans more openly. After that, it didn’t take long for humans to start finding out that they were not the only intelligent species on the planet.
Just then, the nymph Queen, who was a beautiful woman with green skin adorned with flowers and leaves as clothing, spoke up. "My people have already begun spying on the vampires secretly. We nymphs communicate with the natural world. The birds, bees, trees, and even the rocks are our eyes and ears when necessary."
All eyes now turned to the nymph Queen upon her revelation. The Fairy Queen and elven King didn’t seem as surprised as the rest of them, making it clear to Rhett that they’d been doing investigations independently.
An Alpha of a pack located in Africa obviously couldn’t take it anymore and snapped. "With all due respect, Nymph Queen, but of what use is this alliance if we’re all making private investigations without involving the others? This will only breed mistrust among us."
It was now the werewolves’ turn to mumble in agreement among themselves, but Rhett remained silent. He glanced at Isleen, who stood beside him in the dark hall, and was glad to see that she was as calm as him.
They were mates after all. He knew he could always count on her to follow his guidance.
"Enough." The fairy king, who’d remained silent all this while, finally blurted with a frustrated tone.
He was a tall and slender man with pointed ears plated with gold. There was also a golden helmet on his head, and he was the only one in the room donning full body armor, which was golden.
He also held a wooden staff that had a blue magic crystal floating at the top.
When the werewolves obeyed his words, the elven king continued after a brief pause. "We aren’t leaving this room any time soon if we don’t come up with a way forward. As we’ve all mentioned... Time is running out. The vampires continue to increase their ranks by reducing the human population. On top of that, their attacks on Enchantee have become more defined these past few days. It’s only a matter of time before we all fall under their pressure."
The atmosphere in the room became solemn as the human and wolf leaders lowered their heads.
Rhett rolled his eyes, wondering how hard it was for them to act united. Unfortunately, it seemed werewolves and humans had more similarities than either side was willing to admit.
After several seconds of silence, the nymph Queen suddenly stretched out her palm, causing some vines to sprout out of the ground. The vines held a large detailed map which she placed on the table for everyone to see.
"Behold, the underworld." She muttered solemnly as all eyes landed on the map.
Now what did they have here...?
