Chapter 123: Chapter 121 He Said He Is Your Son-in-law
In the police station, Chen Cheng and Wen Shulin completed the urine test and statement recording.
After a short while, Long Changnian entered.
"Please take a seat, both of you."
His gaze tightly fixed on Wen Shulin’s face, he asked, "Miss Wen, Li Hao has requested to see you."
Neither of them was surprised by such a request.
"He says he is your son-in-law."
It wasn’t until Long Changnian read the statement that he understood the opulent lady in front of him had such a connection with Li Hao, who was in the next room.
Wen Shulin calmly stated, "Officer Long, it’s true that Li Hao dated my daughter for a period, but they have already broken up."
"But I remember at the scene, you said he was your employee as well."
Wen Shulin nodded in confirmation, "That’s right, he is a fund manager at CGG’s fund department."
"I have a question I want to clarify," Long Changnian acutely sensed that this matter was not so straightforward.
"Please ask."
"Li Hao dated your daughter and then became your employee. You wanted this comrade to call and report him, is there no other reason besides an actual criminal offense?"
Wen Shulin glanced at Chen Cheng beside her, "There is!"
"What is it?"
Wen Shulin recounted the whole story and also handed her phone with the surveillance video to Long Changnian.
"Officer Long, the reason we did this is because my daughter was wrongfully accused and is currently undergoing treatment for depression."
Wen Shulin’s eyes reddened again, she added, "We consulted professionals, and to arrest him on charges of deliberate harm is difficult. Hence, we chose this method, notifying you."
Long Changnian frowned deeply; he hadn’t expected to receive such a convoluted case this late at night.
"It is indeed tough to proceed with deliberate harm," Long Changnian returned the phone, "however, we will thoroughly investigate all of Li Hao’s illegal and criminal activities."
"If we need your cooperation on anything later, we will contact you," Long Changnian stood up.
Chen Cheng: "Alright, Officer Long, then we’ll head back first."
Both of them left accompanied by Long Changnian.
Da Lao and Alphard were already waiting at the door of the branch.
Wen Shulin gazed into the dark, ink-like sky and murmured, "Finally got him locked up."
"You’ve achieved your goal; let the police handle the rest."
Wen Shulin nodded, "It’s Li Ya’s turn next. I have a feeling Li Hao won’t last through the night, and by dawn, she will be taken away."
"There is another thing," Chen Cheng reminded.
"What?"
"Now that Li Hao has been arrested, someone else has to take over the fund product he was managing."
Chen Cheng smiled, "You’ve made such a show of promoting him, but a single announcement will quickly let everyone in the circle know the arrested person is him."
Wen Shulin nodded deeply in agreement, "You’re right, I’ll handle it."
Chen Cheng glanced at the time, "Look, it’s past midnight."
He walked towards Da Lao, "Let’s go!"
Wen Shulin stopped him, "Wait."
"What for?" Chen Cheng stood by the car.
"Let’s go together."
These four words squeezed out of Wen Shulin’s mouth.
She felt exhilarated inside, but somehow after everything was over, she felt an emptiness, lacking a sense of support.
"Together?" Chen Cheng asked.
Wen Shulin: "I promised Xiao Er to bring you back safely."
She also walked over to Da Lao and said to her driver, "Lao Zhao, follow us."
"Okay, ma’am."
The two cars headed towards Big Willow Tree.
Chen Cheng sent a message to Xiao Meier, "I’m coming back."
"Great!" The response came back instantaneously.
"Shall we watch the flag raising?" Chen Cheng asked again.
[The other party is typing...]
At five in the morning, inside the interrogation room.
"Come clean, where did you get these leaves and seeds from?"
Li Hao had resisted all night long without saying a thing.
His whole body was trembling, incessantly muttering, "I want to make a phone call! I want to see Wen Shulin!"
"Be honest!"
The door opened.
Long Changnian walked in.
"Captain Long."
"How’s it going?" Long Changnian asked.
"He isn’t saying anything, just keeps asking to make a phone call and to see Wen Shulin."
Long Changnian sat down, eyeing Li Hao:
"Do you realize what your problem is?"
"I..." Li Hao looked at his epaulets, "Leader, I just want to make a phone call."
"We have secured all the evidence, 876 grams of the finished product, fresh leaves, four plants." Long Changnian said calmly, "Whoever you call, it won’t help."
Li Hao lowered his head, silent for a long while.
He thought, only by dragging Su Liya down with him, could there be a chance that Wen Shulin would step in to save him.
"Then..." he suddenly looked up, "If I commit to turning in evidence against others, can I receive leniency?"
"It depends on how valuable the information you provide is."
Li Hao took a deep breath, "I want to report someone else who uses the leaves!"
"Who?" 𝓷ℴ𝓿𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝓬ℴ𝓶
"Su Liya, she lives in Wanliu Academy!" Li Hao gave the exact address, "She smokes it too! You better go catch her!"
Long Changnian’s expression did not change as he spoke to the police officer next to him, "Xiao Li, you keep interrogating him."
After saying that, he left the interrogation room and called the Chaoyang District police.
"Lao Wang, are you asleep?"
"We received a tip today and caught someone using the leaves." Long Changnian continued, "Just now in the sudden interrogation, he confessed that there’s another suspect in your jurisdiction."
"I’ll send you the details right away."
"Thanks a lot, thanks a lot."
After hanging up, Long Changnian sent Su Liya’s address to Wang Shang of the Chaoyang District police.
He took out a cigarette and lit one, "Didn’t expect this to actually lead to the next person."
...
Chen Cheng and Wen Shulin arrived back at Big Willow Tree, it was almost 3 am.
Xiao Meier, dressed in sportswear with a light jacket, was waiting at the entrance of the noodle shop.
Seeing the car arrive, she jogged over.
"Xiao Cheng!"
Chen Wen got out of the car, and upon seeing Xiao Meier, Wen Shulin quickly said, "Xiao Er, sorry. We got held up a bit on the road, so we’re back late."
Xiao Meier shook her head with a smile, "It’s okay, we’re not sleeping tonight anyway!"
"Not sleeping?" Wen Shulin was somewhat puzzled.
Xiao Meier hooked her arm through Chen Cheng’s, "Xiao Cheng and I are planning to go see the flag-raising ceremony!"
Chen Cheng spoke lightly, "Xiao Meier has been here for so many years and has never seen it. Now that we have some free time, I thought I’d fulfill her dream."
Wen Shulin looked at Xiao Meier’s pure and happy smile, and then understood that her happiness was really that simple.
For a moment, Wen Shulin felt somewhat envious.
"Recently, there’s been a large crowd watching the flag-raising ceremony. Even with a reservation, you’ll have to queue for a long time," Wen Shulin reminded them.
"It’s fine, we wouldn’t be doing anything else tonight anyway!" Xiao Meier clung tighter.
After thinking for a while, Wen Shulin said, "Let me take you guys."
"What?" Xiao Meier blinked.
Chen Cheng was also curious, "You’re taking us? What do you mean?"
Wen Shulin: "I’ll find someone to guide us."
