Chapter 144: 144, Lost in Bewilderment (First Update)_1
The hot sun scorched, like a heatwave hitting against the face.
On the spiraling and winding road, a cobalt-blue convertible car zoomed by at an extreme speed, lifting up a haze of dust and mist.
“Bai Jue, are you in M Country yet?”
Inside the car, Jian Luo was holding a cell phone in one hand and controlling the steering wheel in the other.
“Cut the crap, see you at the racetrack later, I will definitely beat you this time.”
After hanging up the phone, Jian Luo floored the gas pedal, accelerating his speed.
Racing was one of the few common hobbies between him and Bai Jue, but Black Jack, who was worried about his safety, rarely allowed him to speed. So without Black Jack watching over him, Jian Luo ripped through the road like a runaway steed, pushing his speed to the limit.
“Vroom vroom–”
The strong winds blew past his ears, Jian Luo’s eyes crinkled up, laughing merrily and unreservedly.
His cell phone rang again suddenly. Jian Luo glanced at it and saw that it was Black Jack calling.
Feeling a hint of fear in his heart, he quickly slowed down his speed and reached out to answer the phone.
“Black Jack!”
“Luo Xiaobai, I heard you’re going racing with Bai Jue?” Over the phone, Black Jack’s tone sank a few degrees.
“Who told you?” Jian Luo’s mouth twitched.
How did he find out so quickly?
Did Bai Jue spill the beans?
“I overheard it while Bai Jue was on the phone with you.” Black Jack coldly glanced at the person sitting on the sofa and said indifferently.
Jian Luo, “…”
“Luo Xiaobai, get your ass to me immediately. No speeding.” Finally, Black Jack emphasized with concern.
Knowing that his race with Bai Jue was ruined again, Jian Luo’s spirits plummeted, “Fine, fine, I get it.”
After repeated reminders from Black Jack, he hung up and Jian Luo threw his phone aside. As he looked at the upcoming curve ahead, he didn’t slow down and smoothly executed a spectacular drift.
Well, since his race with Bai Jue was ruined, he might as well have some fun now.
“Screech–”
The tyres rubbed against the ground, creating a harsh noise.
Suddenly, a shadow came rushing towards him at a speed mirroring his own. Jian Luo narrowed his eyes, reacting swiftly to brake.
“Screech–”
Both cars were racing at a high speed, and even with Jian Luo’s excellent driving skills, it was inevitable.
“Bang–”
The two expensive cars collided head-on, creating a loud noise as plumes of white smoke filled the air.
Due to the excessive impact, Jian Luo’s forehead knocked hard against the steering wheel,
“Hiss–”
A painful grunt escaped his lips. Jian Luo held his forehead, and raised his eyes to look at the car that had collided with him.
“Master, are you alright?”
The car door opened, and the driver quickly got out. Ignoring the blood streaming down his forehead, he hastily opened the rear door.
“I’m fine.”
A cold voice resonated, and a tall figure emerged from the car, exuding a chilling aura.
Jian Luo’s gaze fell on the dark figure, and a vague sense of familiarity coursed through him, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
“Are you alright?”
Before he could snap back to reality, the man’s icy voice echoed.
Jian Luo turned around and looked closely at the man. His dusky skin, chiseled face with an air of frostiness, deep and enchanting black eyes, thick eyebrows, high nose bridge, and tightly drawn lips, all screamed dominance and arrogance.
For some reason, he had an inexplicable urge to get close to the man. Sensing his odd behavior, Jian Luo frowned.
“Are you hurt?” His profound ice-cold gaze reflected the young man’s refined face. As it met the crystal-clear eyes, the man unconsciously softened his voice.
Those eyes, they’re so like hers.
Is it that he missed her so much, he had started seeing things?
The driver standing beside watched his master behave unusually gently. Startled, he gave Jian Luo a puzzled look.
What was so special about this young man that his master even changed his tone with him?
This was just too incredulous…
“I’m fine.” Jian Luo watched as the man continued to stare at him, confusion flashed across his face.
Hearing Jian Luo’s voice, the man snapped back to reality, he looked at Jian Luo again, noticing the swelling on his forehead, stained with blood, his eyebrow furrowed immediately.
Before he could say anything more, the roaring noise of cars got closer, the driver’s face became serious.
“Master, they are coming.”
The man’s eyes hardened, he scanned the surroundings, his eyes landing on the woods nearby, “Grab your guns, we will go from there.”
“Yes.” The driver nodded respectfully, quickly fetched guns from the car, handed one to the man, and kept one for himself.
Watching their actions, Jian Luo roughly guessed from their brief conversation that they were being hunted down.
Did he really pick a bad day to go out?
The racing plan got caught out by Black Jack, and now he was involved in this unfortunate accident abruptly.
“Master, we can’t delay any longer.” Looking at the cars approaching closer, the driver urged anxiously.
His life was not important, but the master must not let anything happen to him.
The man stared at Jian Luo thoughtfully, appearing as if he had not heard the driver.
Jian Luo was perplexed by his stare and couldn’t help but say, “Actually, I’m really fine, you guys should go. If you don’t leave now, those people will catch up.”
He glanced at the cars racing towards him, Jian Luo clicked his tongue.
They seemed murderous.
“You, get out of your car.” The man said coldly.
“What?” Jian Luo was slightly taken aback by his words.
“They won’t let you go, get out of your car.” The man explained patiently.
Only then did Jian Luo understand the meaning behind his words. He was worried that Jian Luo would be implicated by them. He cast a look at his own car, a touch of sadness welling up in him.
It seemed that he had no choice but to go with them. After the collision, his car was completely damaged, and starting it would probably be an issue too.
And going back meant he would be scolded by Black Jack again.
Upon heaving a sigh, Jian Luo grabbed his cell phone, put it in his pocket, and obediently opened the car door to get out. Before he could steady himself, the man grabbed his wrist, and began to run towards the dense woods.
“Hey, slow down, slow down.” Jian Luo stumbled unexpectedly, almost kissing the ground.
The man ran incredibly fast, and without looking back said, “Stop talking, hurry if you want to live.”
“Go after them, they couldn’t have gone far.” The relentless voices echoed faintly in his ears. Hearing the chaotic footsteps behind, Jian Luo couldn’t afford to take it lightly and quickly followed the pace of the man.
Stepping on fallen leaves, the sound of “rustle rustle” echoed. Jian Luo’s breathing became increasingly rapid, watching the man ahead, whose breath was still long and steady, he silently sighed.
Perhaps Black Jack and Bai Yue were right in teasing him about lacking physical strength after all.
