Chapter 145: 145, The Name Sounds Familiar (2)_1

Chapter 145: 145, The Name Sounds Familiar (2)_1

After an indeterminate time, the footsteps behind gradually faded. The man’s running figure finally stopped, and Jian Luo, unable to stop in time, nearly bumped into him.

The man pinched the collar of his clothes between his fingers, and Jian Luo just barely stopped.

“Phew–”

He was wiped out.

It’s been a long time since he last had such a close escape.

The man covertly glanced at Jian Luo, a faint hint of amusement flickering through his cold eyes. Perhaps due to those eyes that bore an uncanny resemblance to hers, he felt an inexplicable warmth towards the boy in front of him.

“Sorry, this time you’re in trouble because of me.”

Upon hearing this, the driver’s eyes bulged in terror, utter fear striking his heart.

Was this really his master?

He actually heard something akin to an apology from his master’s mouth; was he dreaming?

Meeting the man’s eyes, Jian Luo looked around to confirm he was the one being addressed. He cracked a smile, “No worries, it’s on me for speeding, then running into you guys.”

The man’s mouth corner pulled upward slightly, “Your forehead wound?”

Seeing the fresh blood on the boy’s forehead trickling down to the corner of his eye, he found the sight of the wound particularly jarring.

Jian Luo raised his hand to touch it. Not knowing how to moderate his movements, he touched the wound and hissed in pain, “Ouch–”

“Don’t touch it with your hand to avoid infection.” The man pulled Jian Luo’s hand away from his forehead, speaking with a deep voice that carried a hint of concern.

Jian Luo blinked in surprise, “I know.”

The sounds of a ringing mobile abruptly filled the eerie silence of the woods; the driver went on high alert instantly.

Jian Luo hastily took out his phone to find it was Bai Jue calling.

“I’ll be there soon, so you two just stop nagging me.” Fearing Bai Jue would notice something was wrong, Jian Luo grumbled without giving him a chance to speak.

“Bai Jue, you idiot, you always get found out by Black Jack.” While he was talking and keeping an eye on his surroundings, he was also verbally jabbing as usual at Bai Jue.

“Wait until I get back, then I’ll settle scores with you. Gotta go.”

After swiftly regaining control of his voice and finishing his lines, Jian Luo hurriedly hung up.

If sly Bai Jue got wind of his current predicament, he would probably scold him relentlessly once he got back. And if his sister found out, he was doomed for sure.

“Let’s go.” Jian Luo had just put away his phone when he was suddenly pulled along. Just as he was about to resist, he heard the disordered sounds of footsteps from behind.

Jian Luo followed the man in running, glancing back to see a mass of black-clothed men swiftly closing in on them- his heart sank.

“Catch them.”

“Bang–”

The black-clothed men chased relentlessly. The leader at the very front seemed particularly intent on catching them and pulled the trigger.

The gunshot pierced through the sky, the sound smashing open in Jian Luo’s ears.

He cursed under his breath, figuring this time he was really gambling with his own life.

“Master, running like this is not the solution.” The driver suggested. They were vastly outnumbered by the opposite side; if they kept running without a plan and were drained of energy, it would indeed not be a wise move.

Continuous gunshots echoed from behind. The man narrowed his cold stare, abruptly stopping his pace, and jerked Jian Luo to one side.

“Take this.”

Before Jian Luo could react, he was holding the gun that the man had thrust into his hand. He instinctively looked up at the man.

“If you’re giving me the gun, what will you do?”

How could he be so sure that Jian Luo would know how to handle a gun?

“No time for that, just take the gun and go.” The man spoke with a resolute tone.

Looking at the boy’s delicate yet unflinching face, he felt an undescribable sense of familiarity. Inexplicably, he wanted to protect him and didn’t want him to face any danger.

Sensing the man’s concern for him, a smile flickered in Jian Luo’s eyes. He handed the gun back to him, grinning ear to ear, “I can’t run anymore, and I don’t know how a to use a gun.”

“You…” The man evidently didn’t expect Jian Luo to opt to stay, a warm feeling stirring within him.

“Hey, the villains are coming, dawdling can cost you your life.” Jian Luo saw the black-clothed men closing in fast and felt a throbbing headache.

Although he was nimble, he couldn’t outmatch an armed group.

“Mo Xiao, let’s see where you can run to this time.”

The leader of the black-clothed men glared maliciously at the man, his black gun muzzle aiming at him.

Jian Luo glanced at the man beside him, Mo Xiao?

Why did that name sound so familiar?

“Heh!” Mo Xiao let out a cold chuckle, his frosted eyes sweeping over the black-clothed men, “Seems like you guys are eager to rush into death.”

Even at a disadvantage, Mo Xiao was still arrogant, but not off-putting in the least, it seemed like he was just being himself.

“It’s you who’s seeking death.” The leader of the black-clothed men’s face contorted in anger, and he pulled the trigger.

The bullet grazed the air, and the pungent smell of gun smoke immediately filled the woods.

Mo Xiao pushed Jian Luo aside and moved, his speed was almost ghost-like.

Jian Luo braced his feet against the ground to keep from losing balance. Looking up, he only caught a fading silhouette of Mo Xiao, his pupils dilating.

Such fast speed!

Who on earth was he?

“You…” The victorious grin on the black-clothed man’s face hadn’t faded yet when he saw the man who was now only steps away. Fear seized him.

A chill danced in Mo Xiao’s eyes. He kicked sideways, causing the gun in the black-clothed man’s hand to fly out. His right hand morphed into a claw, reaching for his neck.

The black-clothed man felt numbness shoot up his wrist; before he could react, his neck was clutched in a vice-like grip, his face instantly turning purple.

“Mo…”

Mo Xiao’s frosty gaze was like a nail hammered into a wooden plank. His unblinking eyes watched as his hand clenched the man’s throat, the soft sound of bones breaking echoing in his ear.

The black-clothed man’s eyes widened in indignation, his mouth oozing blood, the sight instead sending chills down one’s spine.

Seeing their leader dead, the rest of the black-clothed men dared not underestimate Mo Xiao anymore. They attacked with even more brutality, even Jian Luo didn’t escape unscathed.

“Damn–”

Jian Luo managed to get rid of the gun in the black-clothed man’s hand, but didn’t expect the man to have a hidden dagger. Due to a moment of distraction, he got unexpectedly slashed on the arm.

Clutching the blood-stained dagger tightly, the man moved to pierce Jian Luo with a determined look in his eyes. Jian Luo swiftly stepped sideways and narrowly avoided the attack.

At that split-second, Jian Luo put all his force into elbowing the man’s neck. Taking advantage of the man’s moment of instability, Jian Luo grabbed a gun from the ground, aimed it at the man, and fired a few rounds.

“Bang, bang, bang–”

The black-clothed man managed to get back on his feet, but wasn’t quick enough to act. Next thing he heard was bullets embedding into his body, his chest spewing out grizzly blood holes.

The man looked up disbelievingly at Jian Luo, appearing unable to comprehend that he had fallen into the hands of this seemingly gentle and refined boy.

“Thump–”

Seeing the man fall, Jian Luo heaved a sigh of relief.

“Master!” The driver, possessing only average combat abilities, could hardly break free from the black-clothed group that surrounded him. Seeing Mo Xiao getting mobbed, he nearly teared up in desperation.

Hearing the shout, Jian Luo followed the driver’s gaze to see most of the black-clothed men had begun to isolate and target Mo Xiao. Each one of them was holding a gun; no matter how formidable Mo Xiao was, he could hardly defy that many firearms.
