Chapter 236: 236, The Most Uncontrollable Variable (1)_1
In the ward, Bai Jue was changing the medication for the elder Jian, while Jian Qing knocked on the glass window.
Bai Jue turned his head to look at her and gave a slight nod.
With his approval, Jian Qing pushed the door open and walked in.
A faint scent of alcohol permeated the air, accompanied by the beeping of the medical equipment, each beep felt like a knock on her heart.
She lowered her gaze onto the old man laying on the hospital bed, her eyes reflecting a tinge of bitterness.
“Bai Jue, how’s my grandpa doing?”
Bai Jue finished attaching a new drip bag for the elder Jian and looked up at her, “Elder Jian’s condition has stabilized. He should wake up tomorrow.”
Hearing this, she exhaled, relieved.
“Jian Qing, you haven’t rested or slept in 24 hours, continuously working like this will exhaust you.” Bai Jue suggested, noticing the dark circles under her eyes.
“Moreover, there’s a bigger battle awaiting you tonight.”
Jian Qing nodded, “I know.”
Seeing her want to stay next to elder Jian’s side, Bai Jue and the nurse left the room.
Jian Qing moved a chair next to the bed and sat down.
She gently held elder Jian’s calloused hand, her gaze softened, “Grandpa, I’m back. You need to get better soon.”
“Xiaojing said he wants to meet the parents, do you want to see him?” She talked to herself, telling the elder Jian about what had happened to her in Beijing. Every time she mentioned Quan Jingwu, her smile lingered on her face.
In the unnoticed corner, on the hospital bed where elder Jian was still unconscious, a tear trickled from the corner of his eyes.
…
The sunset disappeared, and the night fell.
The smell of blood began to creep quietly into the night.
In the brightly lit meeting room, a burly man with blond hair sat in the main seat, while everyone else sat on both sides, their faces solemn.
The atmosphere was tense, silent.
“Fei En, our plan has already failed. As we agreed, no matter whether the plan succeeds or fails, you have to help me leave M Country safely.” Said the elder sitting at the end of the table to the blond man at the head, urgently.
“Ha!” Fei En responded with a sarcastic laugh when he heard his words, “Baggot, mind your tone. Don’t forget who you are talking to.”
Baggot, the one who got away during the purge of the Jian Family’s Elders Council, the great elder.
Baggot’s aged face crinkled, “Fei En, what do you want me to do then? I’ve helped where I could. The failure of the plan is your problem. Now, that madwoman Jian Qing has already returned to M country. If she catches me, it’s a sure death.”
Everyone in the underworld knew how terrifying that madwoman Jian Qing was. With her fiercely protective personality, the fact that he had aided the Bruce Organization to harm Elder Jian meant she would not simply let it go.
“I don’t care, you must get me out of M Country.”
Fei En squinted his brown eyes, his big palm slapped the tabletop.
“Bang-”
Aside from Baggot, everyone else kept their heads low, staying silent.
“Baggot, when you chose to join me and the Bruce’s camp, you should’ve considered the possibility of this time coming. Now you just want to escape when trouble arises, no way.” Fei En spoke in a low voice.
Upon hearing this, Baggot sprang to his feet, toppling the chair in the process.
He blurted out angrily, “Fei En, what do you mean by this? We had an agreement. Are you trying to back out of it now?”
Fei En looked at him unhurriedly, offered a sneer, “Baggot, think carefully. Without my rescue back then, do you really think that you would still be standing here and shouting at me?”
If it weren’t for the fact he was the great elder of the Jian Family’s council of elders and useful to him in dealing with the Jian Family, he would have got rid of him long ago.
“You…” Baggot, seething with anger, threatened with gritted teeth, “Fei En, if you don’t help me leave M Country, we can part ways. When Jian Qing shows up, at most, you’d have to be buried with me.”
Fei En chuckled. He casually fiddled with a pistol on the table, “Ha, Jian Qing may be a young lady, but without the deep-rooted Jian Family and Elder Jian backing her up, do you think she could still firmly hold the reins of the Jian Family?”
A girl-boss, what was there to fear?
As if he’d heard the biggest joke of his life, Baggot stared at Fei En, mockery clearly visible in his eyes. He chuckled, “Fei En, let me tell you, if you’re truly underestimating Jian Qing, then the Bruce Organization’s history will soon be history.”
At his words, all eyes in the conference room turned to Baggot. They were puzzled at his statement.
Indeed, they had heard of Jian Qing’s feats, but none of them had seen her in person. They didn’t believe that a mere girl could stir up any significant trouble. Rumours from the outside world tended to exaggerate events.
Baggot glanced around the room, noticing their dismissive expressions, he gave a snort of laughter.
“Do you really believe that we, the council of elders, vehemently objected to Elder Jian’s decision to appoint Jian Qing as the leader rather than Jian Luo because we felt a young girl wasn’t qualified?”
Wasn’t that the case?
Everyone exchanged glances, previously, they were indeed informed that it was due to this reason. Could there be some hidden meaning to this? 𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒑𝒖𝒃.𝙘𝙤𝒎
Baggot continued, “Jian Luo has commendable abilities, but the most terrifying person in the Jian Family is that madwoman Jian Qing. She’s the most unpredictable variable. If she takes control of the Jian Family, our Council of Elders will sooner or later be used as her sacrificial lambs. Thus, how could we possibly agree to Elder Jian’s decision?”
What they were afraid of was not the charge of the Jian Family by a young girl, but of that madwoman Jian Qing, the most uncontrollable variable.
However, despite all their objections, they were ultimately uprooted by Jian Qing.
