Chapter 326: 326, Will you listen next time (3)_1
In the darkness, Jian Qing invisibly furrowed her brow as the pointed ends of vines dug into her palm and the sharp fragments of rock jutting out around her sliced into her feet.
The faint scent of blood lingered in her nose as Jian Qing remained silent, her gaze solely focused on the small ginseng plant in sight.
Just a little faster, she thought, just a little faster.
Finally, with one hand holding the vine and the other pulling up the swaying ginseng plant, she accomplished her task.
Looking back, she met a pair of purple eyes not far away and gave a slight smile.
It was hard to climb up, but getting down proved to be quite easy.
Stepping on the protruding rocks below, she leapt, using the vine to slide safely back down to the ground.
Just as she landed, she was abruptly pulled into a warm embrace.
Quan Jingwu held her tightly, his gaze filled with concern. “Why don’t you listen?” he asked.
Jian Qing gave a faint smile, wrapping her arms around him in return.
“Will you behave next time?”
His eyebrows furrowed with exasperation as he slowly released her.
Catching sight of her bloody, bare feet from the corner of his eye, his expression instantly turned cold.
A realization seemed to dawn on him as he hurriedly took her hand, despite the darkness of the night, he could clearly see her bloodied hand.
This was the second time.
He had let her get hurt again.
Jian Qing didn’t want to see his self-blame. Just as she was about to speak, she saw him gently kiss her hand.
His kiss, as light as a dragonfly skimming the surface of water, sent a tingling sensation through her hand.
A smile appeared on her lips. “Xiaojing, it’s okay. It will heal in a couple of days.”
He lifted his eyes to meet hers, his words transforming into a sigh as they reached his lips.
“Fool!”
He cupped her face, his thin lips pressing against her forehead.
How could he not love her with all his heart, and cherish her to his core, when she was like this?
Jian Qing’s lips parted into a light smile as she plucked off the little flower from the ginseng plant and placed it in his mouth.
“Hold it in your mouth.”
After speaking, she took his hand and began to make their way back along the path they had initially taken into the forest.
The bitter taste of the ginseng flower filled Quan Jingwu’s mouth. But once it settled on his heart, it couldn’t be sweeter.
After nearly half an hour, the two finally emerged from the forest.
A black sports car was still parked on the side of the road.
Without a word, Jian Qing sat directly in the driver’s seat. She quickly dialed Fu Heng on the car phone then turned to the man next to her.
“Xiaojing, whatever you do, don’t fall asleep.”
Even though they had the ginseng to suppress the poison from the swamp, the toxin on the hidden weapon was still in his system.
Quan Jingwu leaned against the seat, his handsome face pale. He nodded gently in acknowledgement.
Jian Qing, her expression stern, started the engine.
In the dead of night, the car sped off like an arrow released from a bow.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, Fu Heng was already waiting there, Shen Hao with him.
“Ma’am!” Seeing Jian Qing covered in blood as she exited the car, Shen Hao was shocked to his core.
Jian Qing nodded in acknowledgment and circled the car to open the passenger door, helping Quan Jingwu out.
By this point, Quan Jingwu was already in a semi-conscious state.
“Boss, what…” Shen Hao and Fu Heng were startled — they had never seen their boss in such a state, and it took them by surprise.
Shen Hao rushed to lend a hand, taking almost all of Quan Jingwu’s weight onto himself.
“Xiaojing was hit by a poisoned dart.”
Jian Qing glanced at Fu Heng as she explained.
Fu Heng nodded gravely, and together with Shen Hao, they laid Quan Jingwu on a hospital bed and pushed him into a room.
As the doors of the operating room closed, Jian Qing felt her legs give way, and she collapsed onto a bench.
“Ma’am, what the hell happened?” Shen Hao turned to ask.
He remembered that they were supposed to attend Elder Han’s birthday banquet tonight. Weren’t their boss and Ma’am at the banquet?
How did it come to an assassination attempt?
With a cold glint in her eyes, Jian Qing answered, “It seems they were targeting me. Xiaojing and I were followed shortly after we left the Banquet Hall.”
At this, Shen Hao furrowed his brows.
They were after Ma’am? Who in Beijing had such a deep grudge against Ma’am that they would hire an assassin to kill her in the middle of the night?
“You two shouldn’t butt in, I’ll handle this,” Jian Qing said, glancing down at her torn jacket, a ruthless look flickering in her eyes.
For the injuries Xiaojing received, she swore she’d make them pay for each and every one.
Whoever it was, they would have to pay in kind.
Shen Hao was taken aback momentarily before nodding in understanding.
It seemed another storm was brewing.
An hour passed before the operation concluded.
The poisoned dart was removed, but the toxin remained inside the body. Fu Heng could only suppress it temporarily before rushing back to his research room for the antidote.
In the VIP ward
Quan Jingwu lay still, his eyes shut – an IV drip hanging from his hand.
Jian Qing sat beside the bed, her gaze fixed on his pale face, a hint of worry etching into her eyes.
Fu Heng entered the room, carrying a medical kit in hand. Quan Yifei followed him, carrying two bags.
“Ma’am, I’ve brought the antidote.”
After setting down his kit, Fu Heng opened it and took out a vial of white liquid.
He filled a syringe with the liquid and then immediately injected it into the back of Quan Jingwu’s hand.
Fu Heng put the syringe back in the medical kit, then turned his attention to Jian Qing, “Ma’am, this kind of poison is often used by the Assassin Organization.”
Although extremely potent, it’s slowly released. Without an antidote within a day, death is assured.
Jian Qing’s eyes shimmered briefly before replying in a calm voice. “I see.”
“Jianqing, here are your and third brother’s clothes; also, I’ve brought your laptop.” Quan Yifei placed the bags on the couch, her gaze settling on Quan Jingwu.
When she received a call from her third aunt about the incident, everyone in the family was terrified. How could the people they just saw attending a banquet be subject to assassination attempts the next moment?
If it wasn’t for Shen Hao calming everyone down with the information that Quan Jingwu and Jian Qing were safe, everyone would have rushed over to the hospital.
“Jianqing, don’t worry, third brother will be alright soon.”
In her heart, her third brother was infallible. There was no obstacle he couldn’t overcome, and she believed this time wouldn’t be any different.
And, they had Fu Heng.
Jian Qing nodded. “You two should head home, I can manage here.”
“Jianqing, are you sure you’ll be okay alone?” Quan Yifei asked with concern.
She was also injured.
“It’s no big deal, they’re just surface wounds,” Jian Qing shook her head and assured her.
“Go on, Ma’am will take care of Boss,” Fu Heng picked up his medical kit, patted Quan Yifei’s shoulder and added.
He figured what the boss needed right now was probably just his wife’s company.
After a glance at Jian Qing, Quan Yifei left the room with Fu Heng.
