Chapter 195: Chapter 195 I care about you

Kyra stayed in the corner for a while, hugging her knees and trying to steady her breathing. She knew she had to get back to Meeko and Damon, but she needed this moment to compose herself. She needed to remind herself of who she was and what she had to do.

But even as she told herself this, she couldn’t shake the feeling of Damon’s presence. His sharp gaze, his confidence, his protective nature—they all lingered in her thoughts.

Kyra took a deep breath and stepped out of the theater room, determined to regain her composure.

But as she went outside, she was taken aback. Damon was still awake, leaning against the doorframe of the room. His head rested against the wall, his eyes half-closed, and his skin seemed to glow softly in the dim light.

For a moment, Kyra stood frozen, watching him. His relaxed posture and the serene expression on his face were a stark contrast to the intensity she had felt earlier. It was almost as if he had been waiting for her.

"I thought you would not come out," Damon said quietly, his voice low and almost gentle.

Kyra swallowed hard, her heart still racing. "I—I needed some time to myself," she admitted, her voice trembling slightly. She walked towards him, trying to steady her nerves. "How long have you been waiting here?"

Damon pushed off from the doorframe and stepped closer to her, his eyes now focused on hers with a mix of concern and something else she couldn’t quite read. "Just long enough to make sure you were okay," he said. His tone was soft, almost tender.

Kyra looked up at him, feeling a mix of relief and confusion. "I’m fine. Just needed a moment to gather my thoughts."

Damon nodded, but his eyes remained fixed on her, filled with an emotion that made Kyra’s heart skip a beat.

"You know," he began, his voice barely more than a whisper, "I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I just... I care about you, little thing. More than I should."

Kyra’s breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t expected him to say that. The intensity in his gaze made her feel exposed, as if he could see right through her.

"Damon, we have more important things to focus on," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

He reached out, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. "I know"

Kyra’s heart raced as Damon’s intense gaze seemed to pierce through her, making her feel both vulnerable and exposed. She felt like he was looking straight into her soul, understanding parts of her that she hadn’t fully acknowledged herself.

"You must be sleepy, right? Let’s go," Damon said, his voice calm but carrying an undertone of concern. He turned and walked back inside, his broad shoulders and long blue hair giving him an almost otherworldly presence.

Kyra bit her lip, her thoughts tangled in the emotions his gaze had stirred. She hesitated for a moment before following him into the bedroom.

She walked over to the opposite side of the bed, trying to put some distance between herself and Damon.

As she settled onto the bed, she glanced over at Damon, who was now sitting on the edge of the mattress, his eyes still focused on her with an intensity that made her feel nervous.

Kyra turned off the lights in her bedroom and covered her body with the mattress. The room temperature was normal, but her default capsule style left her feeling cold. She was thinking of trying a warm theme for a change, as she was tired of the teeth-chattering cold.

Kyra lay still, pretending to be asleep as she faced Meeko, who was nestled comfortably in the middle of the bed. Her mind raced with thoughts, unable to settle despite her efforts to relax.

She heard Damon shift and lay down on the bed, covering himself with the mattress. Soon, his steady breathing was felt on the other side of the bed.

Damon, on the other hand, was struggling to quiet the chaotic thrum of his heartbeat. His thoughts were clouded with unease, an inexplicable feeling that gnawed at him despite his efforts to dismiss it. He turned his head slightly, trying to find a more comfortable position, but his mind remained restless.

He recalled a moment from his childhood, a time when his father, Daniel, had entrusted him with his sister.

**Flashback**

"Damon, take care of your baby sister. We have some important work to deal with," his father, Daniel, instructed as he handed over a small, squirming baby dragon named Siri to the young boy.

Damon’s face brightened with a wide grin as he clutched the tiny baby.

"I’m so happy to take care of Siri!" he exclaimed with enthusiasm. Daniel, though smiling, had a troubled look in his eyes—there were monsters attacking, and all the able males were heading out to fight.

After Daniel left to join the battle, Damon settled into the safe room, cradling Siri gently.

His eyes sparkled with pride and joy as he swayed her softly in his arms. Siri’s small mouth moved in cute, unintelligible babbling, which filled Damon with a sense of deep affection and responsibility. He marveled at her innocence and felt a surge of protectiveness.

Just then, a few other young cubs came into the safe room. They looked around with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. Damon’s protective instincts kicked in immediately. He positioned himself between Siri and the cubs, his gaze sharp and alert.

He was determined to ensure that no harm came to his sister while also keeping an eye on the new arrivals.

Suddenly, another boy entered the safe room.

His presence was almost ethereal; he had striking golden eyes and long, flowing white hair.

His small face was serene and calm.

Damon, holding Siri close, eyed the new arrival warily. He retreated to the corner of the room, positioning himself defensively with his sister. The boy followed, his golden eyes fixed on Damon with a calm but intense gaze.

"What do you want?" Damon snarled, his protective instincts on high alert.

"I am Benjamin," the boy replied softly.
