Chapter 257: Chapter 257 Choose one of them

The silver-haired beastman gave Kyra a final nod of respect. "You’re truly something, female. We came here thinking we were just preparing for the worst, but you’ve shown us how to plan for anything."

Kyra smiled warmly in return. "That’s the goal. With enough preparation, we won’t be caught off guard."

The beastmen exchanged glances, their expressions lighter now, even slightly more at ease. "We take our leave now, female," the silver-haired one said, giving her a small smile. The others nodded in agreement.

Kyra stood up to see them off, offering a polite nod. "I’ll see you all out."

But the beastmen raised their hands in protest, shaking their heads. "No need, female," the black-haired beastman said with a grin, his blue eyes twinkling with humor. "You’ve already done more than enough. We’ll find our way. Besides, wouldn’t want your mate to feel... protective," he added with a teasing smirk, clearly referring to the tension in the room.

Kyra laughed lightly, knowing exactly what he meant. Damon, standing nearby with his arms crossed, glowered slightly but said nothing. She glanced over at him, amused, but decided to let the beastmen have their small victory.

"Alright then," Kyra said with a smile. "Stay safe out there."

The beastmen bowed their heads slightly in gratitude before heading for the door, their heavy footsteps echoing through the space.

"We should sleep in the capsule tonight. I’m sure more shadows will try to harm us," Kyra said as she walked into the room. She saw Lucas already jumping onto the bed, while Damon was in his study, obsessed with cleaning every corner until no trace of any smell remained. She had told him earlier that she’d already taken care of it, but he didn’t listen. She had no choice but to let him do his thing.

"Okay! I don’t mind," Lucas said, pouting slightly. "But can you change the theme? Not that plain white one."

Kyra chuckled, knowing Lucas disliked the default settings of the space capsule. She walked toward him and pulled his cheeks playfully. "You don’t like simple things, do you, Mr. Wolf?" she teased, laughing.

Lucas leaned his face into her hands, his arms wrapping around her shoulders. In one smooth motion, he pulled her into his lap, positioning her legs on either side of him. He gazed into her eyes before pulling her even closer, hugging her tightly.

However, as he leaned closer to nuzzle her, his expression suddenly shifted. His brows furrowed in confusion. "Why do you smell different?" he asked, his voice low and slightly perplexed.

Kyra blinked, surprised by Lucas’ sudden change in tone. She tilted her head slightly, gazing into his now curious, slightly concerned eyes. "What do you mean different?" she asked, her fingers tracing small circles on his chest.

Lucas leaned in closer, his nose brushing lightly against her neck as he inhaled deeply once again. His brows furrowed as he tried to pinpoint the scent. "It’s sweeter, like... flowers but mixed with something else. It’s hard to describe, but it’s not how you usually smell."

Kyra frowned slightly, trying to recall anything she had done differently that day. "I haven’t used any new soaps or perfumes... nothing unusual that I can think of."

Lucas blinked "I am not sure but it’s different I can’t say what it is..." He said his face looked cute and serious as he tried to remember smell, he is sensible to smell, it can’t be he can’t remember.

"Forget it," Kyra said, trying to distract herself as she looked at Lucas’s gorgeous face. His ocean-blue eyes sparkled beneath his long lashes, and his silver hair, which usually fell straight, now had slightly curly ends that fascinated her. She reached up, letting her fingers twirl around one of the strands, enjoying the soft texture as it coiled around her hand.

Lucas noticed her playing with his hair and leaned closer, pressing his face near her neck, his warm breath sending shivers down her spine. He wrapped his strong arms around her waist, holding her tighter.

"Ky-ky," Lucas whispered in her ear, his voice low and teasing, "do you like blue, silver, or black?"

Kyra suddenly froze, goosebumps running down her arms. A strange feeling of being watched washed over her. She could sense Damon behind her, his powerful presence impossible to ignore. At the same time, her imagination conjured up Vincent’s intense red eyes, staring at her with that piercing gaze he always had.

She turned back to Lucas, who raised his head innocently and blinked at her, looking completely clueless to the tension he had just caused. "Tell me, Ky-ky," he urged, his eyes wide and curious.

She let out a deep breath, trying to shake off the awkwardness. Lucas had a way of making things both sweet and strange at the same time. She resisted the urge to tug at his ear and instead gave him a small, awkward smile.

"I like... I like..." she stammered, searching for an answer that wouldn’t make the situation worse, as her mind raced between the presence of Damon, the memory of Vincent, and the innocent question Lucas had asked.

"All of them!" she finally said, laughing nervously as she ran her hands through his hair again. "I like all of them."

"No-no, choose one of them," Lucas insisted, shaking his head stubbornly. His blue eyes were locked on her, determined to get a real answer. Kyra could feel Damon’s gaze from behind her, sharp and intense, like a storm waiting to unleash. He stood there, stiff and silent, jealousy radiating off him in waves.

’Damn it! This wolf wants to get you killed!’ her beast, Kaia, grumbled in Kyra’s mind. She glared at Lucas, who was still blinking at her with an innocent expression, as if completely unaware of the chaos he was stirring up.

’Kaia, help me out here! What should I do?’ Kyra mentally pleaded, hoping her beast would offer some useful advice.

’*Yawn* I’m too sleepy... bye-bye,’ Kaia’s voice quickly trailed off, leaving Kyra in a silent void of disbelief.

Kyra felt the urge to curse out loud, but she bit her lip instead, suppressing her frustration. Of all times, Kaia had to bail on her now! She glanced nervously between Lucas and Damon, her mind racing to find a way out of this mess.
