Chapter 266: Chapter 266 Damon secrets (2)
Millions of years ago, a massive volcano, near the southern border of the valoria country, erupted with a fury that sent shockwaves through the land, causing a cataclysmic earthquake.
The ground split apart, and the largest peak of the surrounding mountains crumbled, taking countless lives with it. The disaster didn’t stop there—shortly after, the Sapphire Sea, the largest body of water where seven great rivers converged, was struck by a massive tsunami.
One disaster after another followed in a terrible chain that lasted for an entire decade across the whole world.
their human forms retained remnants of their beast-like features. Beast ears, tails, and, for the bird-like beastmen, wings. But after those disasters, the evolution took a strange turn. The abilities and features that had once defined them faded away, as if the disasters had drained the magic from the land. Beastmen could still transform, but in their human forms, their unique traits were lost to time.
"I thought that ability was lost," Lucas whispered, still stunned. "But you... you still have wings."
Damon clenched his fists. He had no words to explain it. His wings were both a gift and a curse, he’d always kept them hidden, knowing they set him apart from even his own kind.
Damon looked at Kyra and Lucas, his expression softening as he saw Kyra move closer to sit next to him. She gently placed her hand on his thigh, rubbing it softly, a gesture of quiet reassurance. Her touch helped him ground himself, and after a moment of silence, he decided to speak.
"You already trusted me enough to tell your truth..." Damon began, his voice low but steady. "So I’ll tell mine." His eyes flicked briefly to Kyra, her calm presence giving him the courage to continue.
"I was born different from the others... from the other dragons." He paused, "No one really knew why, but when I shifted into my human form for first time, I still had my wings. Because of that, my father wouldn’t let me out. He kept me hidden."
Damon’s gaze darkened as memories surfaced, heavy and painful. "During that time, there were... hunters. People searching for beastmen with wings. It was rare—so rare that it sparked several wars. And I never knew why. Why everyone wanted these wings so badly." He glanced down at his hands, clenching them in his lap. "So I hid them. Always."
Kyra’s touch remained steady on his thigh, her silent presence helping him through the difficult memories. Lucas watched him intently, the tension in the room thick as Damon continued his story.
"When I was young, my mother—the dragon beast—gave birth to my little sister," Damon said, his voice growing more somber. "She was just a child when the wars broke out. My father... he asked me to protect her, to keep her safe."
He took a deep breath, his eyes clouded with the painful memory. "But then I heard that my father had been killed. I left her behind to search for him, thinking I could save him if he was still alive and injured. I trusted Benjamin to watch over her." His jaw tightened, the name ’Benjamin’ spoken with barely contained fury. "But when I came back... my father was alive. And my sister—she was already dead."
Damon’s voice cracked, and his eyes closed for a brief moment as he fought against the anguish rising inside him. "I failed her. I should have stayed. I should have..."
Kyra squeezed his thigh a little tighter, her fingers soothing, and Damon took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. His expression grew distant, haunted by the memories of that time. He could still hear his sister’s laughter, see the light in her eyes—both now nothing more than ghosts of the past.
Damon’s expression darkened as he continued his story, his eyes clouded with the pain of betrayal. "I always carried this guilt and remorse, believing I had failed as a brother. I thought I could have saved her, that if I hadn’t left, Siri would still be alive." His voice softened for a moment, his gaze distant. "But I also thought Benjamin did his best to save her. After everything, my beast father abandoned me, and I was left alone."
He paused, his jaw tightening. "At the age of twenty-five, I came back to Spirit City Town. That’s when I found Benjamin again. He was just the same—charming, clever, and we decided to chase after Sandra together."
Kyra’s stomach twisted at the mention of Sandra. She bit her lip, trying to hide the jealousy rising inside her, but her smile faltered as she urged Damon to continue. She could feel the possessiveness curling in her chest—Damon was hers now, and knowing they were close to mating once haunted her.
"We pursued her for months, and after countless rejections, she finally accepted us," Damon continued, his voice taking on a colder tone. "A month later, we decided to mate."
Kyra forced a smile, but she couldn’t help the flare of possessiveness inside her. The thought of him being so close to another female made her want to pull him closer, to claim him as hers. She didn’t say anything, though, choosing to let him finish his story.
"But that night..." Damon’s voice lowered, his expression turning grim. "I overheard her talking with other males. She was the one who killed my sister. She was there, at that safe place, manipulating everything. And Benjamin... he was in on it too." His fists clenched tightly as he relived the memory. "Not only that, Sandra planned to cut off my wings, to strip me of my power. She sold all of the clothes I had designed for quick money, using me like some pawn in her twisted games."
Kyra’s heart sank at the depth of his pain. She reached out and gently took his hand, her fingers lacing through his as he spoke.
"Benjamin... he was planning something big," Damon continued, his voice filled with frustration. "I still don’t know exactly what, but I suspect those beasts who attacked us during the beauty contest were connected to him. When I told everyone the truth about Benjamin, no one believed me back then. He was too well-liked, too famous for his work with musical instruments. They all thought I was lying, that I was making it up out of jealousy or spite."
His expression hardened, his jaw set in anger. "Three years ago, I was chased out of Spirit City, accused of falsely attacking Benjamin’s reputation. I lost everything."
