Chapter 272: Chapter 272 Setting safe place to stay
Leader Marc frowned and made the decision. "We won’t risk eating this meat. It could be tainted. Use these beasts for bait in traps instead. We can still make good use of them."
Everyone agreed with the plan and quickly discarded the tainted parts, using the rest for traps and survival tactics. After moving carefully through the landscape, they found a safe spot on the Small mountain side after walking long.
The area was clean and untouched, with no signs of any beasts having been there. Kyra’s knowledge of beast patterns had helped them avoid dangerous areas, and they all decided this place would be perfect for setting up a cave shelter, providing safety and protection for the night.
Kyra glanced at Lucas, who looked back at her with a puzzled expression. Without a word, she beckoned him to follow her behind a nearby rock. Curious, Lucas followed her, and seeing this, Damon decided to follow as well, keeping an eye on the situation.
Once they were out of sight, Kyra concentrated as Kaia had instructed her. She closed her eyes, trying to shift back into her human form, imagining herself with clothes as she transformed. To her surprise, when she opened her eyes, she saw that her body was covered—not with ordinary clothes, but with a long red coat adorned with red fur, the round neck giving her a regal appearance.
Her eyes widened in amazement. "It worked," she whispered, staring at her new form. The fur was soft but strong, and the outfit felt like a part of her. It was entirely different from what anyone else had, but it felt right for her—unique, just like custom made for her.
Lucas’s eyes widened in amazement as he saw Kyra’s original fur clothes. Damon, who had followed them, looked equally surprised. Kyra felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over her, knowing she no longer had to worry about being exposed after shifting back into her human form.
Meanwhile, the dragons were already at work. Using their forepaws, they began digging into the mountainside to create a cave. They were careful to make as little noise as possible, understanding the importance of staying discreet and avoiding unwanted attention.
Some of the dragons took on the role of guardians, keeping a vigilant watch over the area. The rumors of danger in this place from days past had made them cautious, and they knew the importance of maintaining a secure perimeter. The work continued smoothly, with the dragons working diligently to ensure the safety and comfort of the group.
Kyra wanted to help with the cave preparations, but everyone insisted she stay out of the way for her safety. With no other choice, she began to explore the area, hoping to find something interesting or useful.
As she walked around, Kyra noticed that the five male warriors who had visited her home were also here, along with some beasts she had seen at the council meeting.
Her gaze shifted to the guarding beasts, who stood with their muscles tensed and eyes sharp, prepared for any potential threats. They looked ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice.
Soon, the cave was completed. The warriors brought in rocks covered with moss, which they used to line the entrance. They put all bags containing light crystals, bedding, and other essential items inside.
Kyra decided to help with the cleaning.
She crafted a broom from a thorny-like plant which and used it to sweep the entire area inside the cave and around its entrance. The group worked efficiently to arrange the rocks and replant greenery, ensuring the cave’s entrance blended seamlessly with the natural surroundings. They left a small, camouflaged space covered with bushes, providing both a natural look and a measure of safety.
Lucas, who had been gone exploring movement ago, quickly returned with some plants in his mouth. He carefully placed them around the cave’s entrance, effectively camouflaging the area. Despite his efforts, no one asked him about the plants, and he simply went on with his tasks.
Once the cleaning was finished, everyone moved inside the cave. Some warriors had already dug an additional chamber within the cave, and others had installed crystal lights, which illuminated the space with a soft, bright glow. Damon spread several mats on the ground, making the area more comfortable.
Finally, everyone settled around the cave, wiping their sweat. Although everyone had night vision, the cave would have felt lifeless and could have developed unpleasant smells and germs without light. The crystal lights not only made the space more vibrant but also helped keep it clean and fresh.
"Finally, it’s done," Theo sighed with relief. "This should give us some sense of safety in this dangerous place. Thanks to you, female."
Kyra shook her head modestly. "No need to thank me. I didn’t do much. Everyone put in their own effort."
The warriors looked at her with admiration.
"Aww... female, you’re so beautiful and smart," Oliver, a warrior with short bluish-gray hair, said with a smile, blinking at her.
Kyra simply smiled politely in response.
Lucas’s eyes narrowed slightly as he watched Oliver’s attention on Kyra. The smile on Oliver’s face, combined with his flirtatious comment, didn’t sit well with him. Lucas’s jaw tightened, and he shifted uncomfortably, his protective instincts flaring up.
Damon, meanwhile, watched the interaction from the corner of his eye. His expression remained stoic, but a hint of jealousy flickered in his gaze. He didn’t like the idea of anyone getting too close to Kyra, especially in a manner that seemed too casual or affectionate.
His fists clenched involuntarily, and he forced himself to remain calm, avoiding showing his irritation.
Lucas moved closer to Kyra, standing a little straighter as if to assert his presence. "We should focus on resting up," he added, keeping his eyes on Oliver for just a moment longer before turning his attention back to Kyra. "Tomorrow’s not going to be easy."
"You’re right, Lucas! Thankfully, we prepared food and water, just as you suggested, female," the Leader said, looking at Kyra with shining eyes of approval.
Kyra felt a little embarrassed but managed a small smile. "I’m glad it’s useful," she replied softly.
The Leader nodded and continued, "We’ll start putting traps today, study the beast patterns closely. Tomorrow, we’ll try to push further and see what lies deeper."
