Chapter 291: Chapter 291 Determination

His hand fell, and the last breath left his body.

Kyra froze, her breath catching in her throat. She stared at him in disbelief, the realization sinking in like a knife to her heart. He was gone. The sweet, brave boy who had risked everything for her was gone, and there was nothing she could do to bring him back.

A sob tore from her chest as she cradled his lifeless body in her arms. The world around her felt like it was closing in, the weight of her failure crushing her.

The monsters roared furiously behind the gate, their claws scraping against the metal with a grating sound. But each time they tried to push it open, her thunder barrier sent jolts of electricity through them, causing them to recoil. Still, Kyra knew the gate wouldn’t hold much longer. The barrier flickered weakly, and the creatures grew more desperate. Time was running out.

But Kyra didn’t care anymore. She had failed. She had lost him.

Her tears mixed with the blood on her hands as she whispered, "I’m so sorry, Joy... I’m so sorry."

The gate creaked under the weight of the monsters, and Kyra knew they would break through any second. She gently laid Joy’s body down on side, her hands shaking as she closed his eyes. Her chest was tight with grief, but she forced herself to stand.

She couldn’t let his sacrifice be in vain.

With one last glance at Joy, Kyra wiped her tears and turned to face the gate. The monsters were coming, and now, all she had left was her rage. Rage at the monsters, at Benjamin, at the entire cruel world that had taken so much from her.

Her hands crackled with energy as she prepared to fight. She wouldn’t run. Not this time. She would fight until she win.

For Joy.

For her baby.

As the gate creaked open, Kyra’s heart tightened. Sure enough, standing there were Benjamin and the horned monster. Their eyes gleamed with cruel satisfaction, but Kyra’s gaze was cold, her fists clenched so tight her knuckles turned white.

Benjamin’s smirk widened as he sauntered forward, looking down at Joy’s lifeless body with fake pity. "Sweetcheeks, were you really trying to run?" he said with a mocking sigh, shaking his head. "Tsk, tsk... Because of you, an innocent lost his life." His voice dripped with condescension as he nudged Joy’s body with his feet, a smug grin spreading across his face.

Kyra’s chest heaved with anger, her blood boiling at the sight. But she refused to let him see how broken she was, how shattered her heart had become. Instead, she glared at him, hatred burning in her eyes. "Shut up!" she shouted, her voice raw, filled with rage. "You’re no different from those monsters—you’re just like them!"

For a brief moment, Benjamin’s smirk faltered. His expression changed, and something unfamiliar flickered in his eyes—something like heartache. It was fleeting, barely noticeable, but Kyra caught it. His cocky expression slipped just enough for her to see that her words had struck a nerve.

But it didn’t matter. Not anymore. Kyra’s entire body trembled, not with fear, but with anger. She didn’t care what Benjamin felt, whether he was hurt by her words or not. All that mattered was the pain inside her, the loss of Joy, and the monster standing before her who thought he could control her.

Her fists began to crackle with energy again as she prepared herself. If this was going to end, it would end with her fighting, not backing down.

Benjamin’s expression hardened once more, the brief flash of emotion gone as quickly as it had appeared. He straightened up, his smirk returning, though this time it didn’t quite reach his eyes. "You really think you can stand against us, Kyra?" he said, his voice low, dangerously calm. "You think you can survive?"

Kyra didn’t flinch. Her heart pounded, her grief mixed with anger fueling her. She wasn’t going to let them win. Not now, not after everything.

Without another word, Kyra raised her hands, the crackling energy growing stronger. The battle wasn’t over yet.

As Kyra stood there, surrounded by the oppressive presence of Benjamin and the monsters, she began to feel something stir deep within her—a connection to the earth beneath her feet, the air swirling around her, and the raw energy of nature itself. It was as if Mother Nature herself was reaching out, lending her strength, guiding her through the chaos. A strong, natural aura enveloped her, advancing her powers.

Her hazel-blue eyes darkened, shifting to a deeper, more intense shade as she focused on the monsters before her. The energy inside her swirled, and she could feel it—the combined force of her healing abilities intertwining with her thunder powers. Her hands began to tremble, not from fear, but from the sheer force she had gathered within her. The power surged through her veins like a raging storm, her fingertips crackling with electricity and life.

Kyra’s gaze shifted to the horde of creatures that approached. There were more than she could count—thousands of monsters, shadows flickering between the trees, their eyes glowing with dangerous light. Each one looked more terrifying and powerful than the last, their grotesque forms brimming with malice.

She clenched her jaw, refusing to be overwhelmed. The ground beneath her feet pulsed in rhythm with her energy, and she could feel the life force of everything around her—the trees, the earth, even the distant mountains. Mother Nature was on her side, and she would use everything in her power to stop this nightmare.

The monsters snarled, their growls growing louder as they neared. Kyra’s hands sparked with thunder, glowing bright, while the soothing force of her healing energy balanced the destructive power. The force within her was immense, but she was ready. She had to be.

With a determined glare, she lifted her hands toward the approaching horde. "I’ll end this," she thought, her heart beating with fierce determination. They wouldn’t have her, and they wouldn’t have her world.

She was ready to fight with everything she had.
