Chapter 84: Sony, Sad Pymon
Sony — Runemist Echofrost Slytherex — Sound / Mist / Runefrost
Sony was a sleek, serpentine dragon-snake, stretching 10 meters long. His scales shimmered like frozen glass etched with runes—pale cyan and white, constantly pulsing with a faint glow. Frosty mist trailed from its body, rippling with soft chimes like wind brushing through icicles.
Along his spine, ancient rune sigils glowed and rearranged with every movement, each one humming with chimes and bell sounds.
His eyes were crystalline—reflective like mirrors, yet misty with glowing blue sparks.
Sony could become fairly thick and big using Runefrost to expand his body’s scales, making him the biggest-looking creature among the five.
"Come on," Sony hissed.
"As you wish," Cheron jumped and used Plumblaze Toxin Fireball as his four mouths channeled energies into a giant fireball that shot at Sony like a bullet.
But Sony turned into mist and dispersed using his skill—Miscoil Fade, before appearing above Cheron with his mouth open and aimed below.
Swoosh!
Rigid-Rune Fog!
Sony breathed out a cloud of sparkling, frigid mist cloud that instantly enveloped Cheron.
Cheron jumped out of it, but he was already affected by the debuff of that skill, making his speed slower and his reaction delayed.
Cheron only realized that his reaction was slowed down when his back was hit by Sony’s Runefrost conjured spears using Runefrost Mastery level 1.
Growling angrily, Cheron flapped his wings as he flew up, releasing the heat of his Plumblaze to speed up and cleanse himself of the slowing debuff while moving fast to dodge other Runefrost spears.
Sony slithered fast while following Cheron, not using any more energy on spears, but wanting to smack Cheron with his tail.
Cheron turned around and roared down, spitting a bubbling green slime from his viper-tail.
Sony’s eyes flashed. ’I know that attack. It will poison me and also enhance your Plumblaze like fire meeting gasoline.’
Sony promptly used soul energy to use Miscoil Fade and appeared beside Cheron while swinging his tail.
"That’s quite a nasty movement skill you got," Cheron dodged swiftly by flapping his wings bursting with Plumblaze, and also counter-attacked as the Plumblaze embers shot at Sony who began falling down.
Sony shrank his body, but some Plumblaze struck on his body.
"Hisss!!" Sony felt heat spreading into his body and giving him sizzling pain. ’No wonder Crocky was rolling around. This flame is nasty!’
"You’re done, son!"
Cheron zoomed down at Sony like a rocket, his wings covering his body, and his wings were covered with green slime!
Sony’s eyes widened, but he couldn’t dodge in time as Cheron crashed into him, and Plumblaze spread around his body while Cheron also used his Viper-tail to bite on Sony’s head and used his other three heads to bite on Sony’s body with Plumblaze flaming all over.
Cheron was immune to his own Plumblaze, but not Sony!
’You’re done now!’
But Sony didn’t plan to give up, and he had yet to reveal his third skill, and he decided to go out.
In the next moment, Sony’s scales shone and burst out with a mist stream, enveloping Cheron and himself both as frost marks appeared over Cheron’s body.
Cheron felt vibrations pounding across his body and mind, feeling sick.
’This ice....’ Cheron felt his body getting invaded by this strange ice, but he continued to burst out Plumblaze as well, resisting it.
Alas, Sony used all of the remaining energy to use Runefrost as well.
Everyone saw a burst of flash as Runefrost triggered by Sony froze both of them into an icy tomb.
Plumblaze over Sony’s body was snuffed out instantly.
"Is it over?" Ophis squinted her eyes.
"We have to wait a bit more," Chuthulos said as he observed the frozen statue. "Hmmm, alright. The Runefrost encasing them enhanced the frost marks, and they invaded Cheron’s body. If this continued, Cheron would die before his Plumblaze melted the Runefrost."
"So the winner is Sony."
"You heard that! Now disperse the ice, Sony!"
"Healers, recover those two. We’ll continue after a few minutes of break."
Cheron and Sony separated.
"Damn it, I won’t lose next time."
"We’ll see."
...
In the end, the Gold-rank Monsters fought against each other as directed by Chuthulos, while Alfred and others also trained and fought against each other to improve themselves.
In the end, Ophis and Merc had the highest points, followed by Sony, and then Crocky.
"Alright, we won’t decide the leader among you yet. We will hold another competition later when you all reach the peak of Gold-rank and decide on the leader," Chuthulos said with a grin.
"Well, deciding a leader is foolish anyway," Ophis said. "John is the leader, and we listen to him when it matters, so there’s no point."
"But it’s good to know I am strong," Ophis said with a prideful head up.
"Oh, come. You just have an attributable advantage against most of us," Crocky snorted. "Your skill set is just annoying to deal with."
"We all have our own strengths and weaknesses, so it’s better to work and chill together, guys," Sony said with a grin.
"Then let’s see who’s the first one to reach level 2 mastery in any attribute," Cheron said.
Meanwhile, Chuthulos gathered Alfred and others.
"Alright, John wanted to train you all, so we’ll shift the gears a bit. The Gold-rank Monsters will now hunt the others. But the condition is that you will only use your Quirks when hunting others."
"And you all who are Silver-rank, don’t attack the Gold-ranker monsters, but you can dodge, defend, and use your attacks against their attacks to keep yourself safe. Your job is to survive the hunt."
"Sounds good," Alfred nodded. "We should be able to train better with that."
"Yey, yey! Let’s go!" Rexion cheered.
"I am fine with that, but I doubt any of you can catch me," Pymon cheekily said.
"Hey, Pymon. You didn’t see, but Merc and Cheron both can catch you with their brust speed using their Voltspark and Plumblaze, so don’t get cocky."
"Also, you’re not allowed to use Tempest Streak."
"Huhuhu, let’s see if they- wait, what? Tempest Streak is my skill! I should be able to use it!"
"Nope. Use your water, lightning, and wind mastery to speed up in a clever way, but no more using Tempest Streak in this session."
"Alright, now you all rest for two minutes. We will begin after that."
And so, while John trained his Monster Geno Arts, the Monsters were having fun training and were improving.
Sixteen hours had passed by since John handed over the kids to the Knights.
He had been training in Monster Geno Art using the resources and had used up all that he had brought.
-Stats:
— Strength: 88
— Defense: 87 𝓷ℴ𝓿𝓹𝓾𝓫.𝓬ℴ𝓶
— Speed: 86
"Six hours more if I had resources, but I don’t have them," John sighed and stood up. ’I can use Alfred’s blood energy, and hopefully, Merc also reached level 2 in Metal mastery now.’
He went to visit the training ground to check on the monsters.
"Master!!"
But seeing him, Pymon came running while bursting into tears.
He rolled on the ground nearby while crying and rubbing his head on John’s legs.
"Yo, what happened?" John was taken aback and wryly smiled seeing such a state of Pymon.
Chuthulos appeared near him from the center of the ground and said, "He still didn’t awaken his talent after all this time, so he is sad."
"Everyone has one except for me! Even Starry and the kids awakened their talents, even though they’ve only been in Silver-rank for less than a day."
John blinked and inspected Pymon. Instantly, he was startled. "What the hell, you really reached close to the peak of Silver-rank?!"
Pymon’s stats were at 94 STR - 100 SPD - 92 DEF!
Pymon looked at him, tears pouring out. "I trained so hard, but I still didn’t awaken my talent. Am I a weak noob?"
"Noob? Where did you learn this word?"
"Chuthulos was saying it to those who lost."
"Hehe..."— Chuthulos.
"Oh well, putting it aside, it’s indeed strange you still haven’t awakened it," John said as he looked at Pymon. "Merc also awakened his talent late in Silver-rank, so some are late bloomers, but you trained hard to reach almost the peak of Silver-rank and still didn’t awaken it...."
"It looks like I’ll have to take a deeper look into you."
Pymon blinked as tears slowed down. "I can awaken it then?"
"Damn sure, you’ll awaken it. Humph, there’s no way you won’t awaken a talent," John snorted. "My Pet Monsters should be the strongest."
"Come on, let’s get your source space and body checked."
