Chapter 93: Competition Day
"Good luck with the competition, John!"
"Have a good sleep."
"Thanks. See ya’ll later." John waved his hand as he walked away.
John returned to the courtyard, fell asleep, and woke up at five in the morning.
The competition was about to start at 8 o’clock, so he had three hours to do whatever.
John opened Xhalthuun’s Shop after entering the bathtub filled with cold water.
He didn’t inspect the new items in detail after he had refreshed last time, and didn’t even see the 5th item that must have appeared after he upgraded the shop to level 3.
[Xhalthuun’s Shop]
-Shop level: 3
-Xhal Drops: 243,883
< This week’s Items > ( Refresh Cost: 100 Xhal Drops. )
1. Raaz Te’el Mask—64,300 Xhal Drops.
2. Oblivion Silk Plant—12,305,200 Xhal Drops.
3. Astral Lumen Carrot x 1—384,000 Xhal Drops.
4. Flag: Ember Bloom Aura—121,300 Xhal Drops.
5. Parasite: Yeumun Hyperbolt—538,929 Xhal Drops.
John blinked. "Parasite?"
He inspected it first.
[Parasite: Yuemun Hyperbolt]
—> This parasite grows symbiotically with the host and creates an extending organ called Yuemun Hyperbolt, a handcannon able to absorb energies and shoot fast bolts. The user can design the type of bolts based on their Quirks as well as the powers of this parasite, which can be developed by the type of resources you feed it.
"Interesting."
However, John couldn’t afford to buy it. He then checked the flag.
It was kind of good. After planting the flag, the Monsters within the area of 100 meter-radius around the flag with Fire-attribute would gain a boost of 20% in their Fire-attribute skills and talents.
However, it was only applicable for Emperor-rank and lower-rank Monsters.
Next, he looked at Astral Lumen Carrot.
[Name]: Astral Lumen Carrot
[Rank]: Special
[Attributes]: Space, Light
[Effects]:
—> If eaten by a Monster with Space and Light attribute, directly raise its Mastery level by one if the mastery level is lower than 5.
1. 80% chance to randomly awaken an Ultimate skill of Space and Light.
2. 50% chance to awaken a random talent related to Space or Light, or both.
"Space!" John’s eyes widened. "Hey, Rune. Why don’t you tell me what happens if I eat it?"
[ As you have no affinity with Space or Light, you might die. ]
"..."
"What if I eat it a bit by bit?" John asked, his tone serious. "I mean, surely this should be able to benefit me somehow. I want Space Affinity. And this carrot cost frigging 384k, and it’s special-rank, whatever it entails. So, I feel like it should be able to help me."
[ Maybe...if you eat it a bit by bit and manage to endure until you finish it, you might awaken the affinities of both Space and Light. But I must warn that the experience will not be pleasant. ]
"If it’s fucking pleasant, it’s not life, ey?" John grinned. "I’ve never eaten a free biscuit in my life, so I don’t expect to get this without suffering for it. Alright, I’ll buy it first."
John went to Monster Paradise and spent 1 Molding Essence to cover his body with a towel. Arriving in the garden, he looked at the plants.
They were growing nicely.
"Fuck it. Sell one of the five Orchids. The one with the least potency."
[ Do you confirm to sacrifice the King-rank Cradleflare Orchid? ]
"Yes."
[ 325,400 Xhal Drops acquired. ]
The Monsters were playing in a football field, though it was more intense than ever because John had put the rule to use their attribute masteries in the match.
That way, they could train as well as have fun.
John was tempted to make more things upon seeing his current rate of Molding Essence production, but he must wait and gather one million to upgrade Monster Paradise and get that new bountiful island that would be able to customize resources.
Leaving the Monster Paradise, John arrived back in the bathtub.
He put the Astral Lumen Carrot in the storage space and looked at the other items.
"This bitch is most expensive," John muttered as he looked at the Oblivion Silk Plant. It cost frigging 1.2 million Xhal Drops.
[Name]: Oblivion Silk Plant
[Rank]: Sovereign
[Attribute]: Void
"Dayum."
John went to the last item in the shop, which he was going to buy for sure, even without looking at the details.
He bought it first and then inspected it.
"It looks cool."
[Raaz Te’el Mask]: Wearing the mask can allow the user to be seen by others as per the user’s design. Nobody at Sovereign-rank or below can see through the illusion.
"Oh? So I can become a lad with a completely new face, hair, eyes, and body as per my design after wearing the mask?"
[Indeed.]
"But...If this mask costs 64k Xhal Drops and can let me stay hidden from Sovereign-rank powerhouses, then why does that Oblivion Silk Plant, which is also at Sovereign-rank, cost so much? It’s like the difference between heaven and hell. It’s understandable that Void attributed resources must be super rare, and it’s a resource, so it has fundamentally higher value in a sense, but then why is the mask so cheap?"
[ The prices are not based on the norm, but based on Xhalthuun. Xhalthuun decides the price based on his own standards, and they change accordingly. Next time you see Oblivion Silk Plant, it might cost less. ]
"I see."
...
John didn’t refresh the shop and instead decided to let it refresh automatically a week later. If he got some awesome items now, then they would disappear a week later if he couldn’t buy them.
So instead of that, he could just wait for five more days to let the shop refresh itself.
If he wanted to maintain Xhal Drops to buy things from the shop regularly, he would need a farm of resources to sacrifice, and that could only happen after upgrading Monster Paradise to level 2.
After freshening up, John was tempted to eat the carrot bit by bit over the next two hours until the competition starts, but if something happened to him that made him unable to fight, it would be bad, so he postponed this activity.
Looking at himself in the mirror and Ouroboros Hall’s robe on the bed, John pulled a long face. "Fuck it."
John vanished for a moment and then reappeared with a brand new outfit with Ouroboros Hall’s symbol badge on his right arm below his shoulder.
A sleek black suit over a deep red shirt, left slightly open at the collar, with a loose black tie adding to his effortless, rebellious regal style.
John’s sharp red eyes matched the glowing stare of the massive, menacing wolf behind him as he asked with a grin, "How am I looking, buddy?"
"Awoo!!"
John laughed. "That’s right? Alright, I’ll graciously accept that title as my first official one."
...
At the Arena section of the mountain, John and Alfred landed at an open spot after unraveling from their Umbral Drift.
"Oh, nice public." John saw a lot of people everywhere, and all the battle rings were filled to the brim with audience at each of them.
However, the main venue was up in the air.
’So they literally build stadiums for events, eh?’
Fifty meters high in the sky on the right side, away from the mountain’s body, there was a massive stadium. In the middle was a large square battleground where the participants would be. It was 100 meters in radius.
And several meters away, separately from this battleground, were floating platforms in a ladder-style configuration filled with seats for the audience.
John had a bit of goosebumps. He was going to fight there, and he would accept nothing less than his complete domination of this event.
’It’s going to be fun.’
"Hey, John! You’re here."
John saw Tony and Jasmine gliding through the crowd as they approached him.
John waved his hand at the duo while smiling. ’Let’s kill time, but without summoning my Monsters.’
