Chapter 92: Eve of the Competition
"Forest and wilderness are good, but it feels good to be here as well," John commented as the dragon slowed down and the city came into his view.
"The competition is tomorrow morning, so rest today and show me your and your Pet Monsters’ progress," Azelis said before she remembered something and asked. "Also, did you get your third Pet Monster, and is it as badass as the so-called prophecy suggested?"
John laughed. "You will be shocked."
Azelis was curious.
The dragon arrived in the courtyard before turning into a cute miniature form as Azelis and John landed on the ground.
"Show."
The dragon on her shoulder burst out black flames from its snout, looking arrogant as if saying, whatever your Pet is, it can’t be better than me.
John waved him and spoke aloud, "Behold, my third Pet Monster."
"Rexion, the Solrune Bloodcoil Drake."
Azelis’s eyes widened. "A drake?"
"Grrr?" the dragon on Azelis’ shoulder blinked and tilted its head, looking curiously at Rexion.
"This...you even made it reach the utter peak of Silver-rank?" Azelis was even more dumbfounded when she measured Rexion’s parameters with her soul scan.
"And that attribute...it’s not Blood, but a variant of Blood," Azelis’s eyes squinted. "Interesting."
"Alright, I changed my mind," Azelis smiled and said. "I won’t check your Pets or your combat power. Just show me what you got tomorrow morning.
John’s progress shocked her. Not only did he reach the peak of Silver-rank, but his new Pet also reached the peak, which means his other two Pets were also at the peak of Silver-rank.
"Great. That sounds good," John replied with a grin. "So, what are we doing now?"
"Not we, but you. Do whatever you want. I’m going to the Nexus City. I just came to pick you up and check on you before leaving. I’ll return tomorrow morning for the competition."
"Oh...Can I, cough, come with you?" John asked, his eyes looking at her like a puppy. "Please."
"You are going to the nexus city ten days later if you win a spot in the competition tomorrow anyway."
"But I am bored here," John sighed. "Of course, if my presence is troubling, then it’s fine."
"It’s not your presence that will trouble me, but your safety," Azelis wryly smiled. "I will be going to a place where you cannot enter, so you will have to stay alone somewhere, and if someone got mad at you and killed you, it’d be sad."
John felt a chill. "Is it so easy to get killed there?"
"It depends. This city is our territory. Nobody dares to mess with us. But Nexus City is a vast territory housing multiple big factions, including the five ruling sects. That one city is the backbone and frontline of the entire Gratar Continent, so yeah, it’s pretty dangerous without an Emperor-rank by your side."
"Damn..." John weakly smiled. "Okay, I’ll stay here."
He also wanted to make a request to get Gravity-attributed resources, but then he changed his mind, as that wasn’t a good idea.
’Anyway, I should check out this city first.’
"Good boy," Azelis said with a smile. "You’ll see the Nexus City soon. No need to hurry."
"Alright, I’m leaving now. Take care."
"You too!"
Azelis left.
John also left and went to the Ouroboros Logistic Hall, inquiring about the resources of Space and Gravity attributes.
Alas, there were none.
Then John went to the Tamer’s Market.
After an hour of futile search, John sighed and left the Tamer’s Market. He had asked every single place, but no one had Space or Gravity resources.
’Damn. But I guess if the Logistic Hall doesn’t have it, no one would have it in the city here.’
John sighed. If possible, he wanted to procure the resources himself, which was why he wanted to go to the Nexus City and get them himself.
Telling Azelis wasn’t really a problem...until one day, when she would see Sage Kindred using a Soul Technique of Space and Gravity attribute and make connections.
’Yeah, no. I don’t even have an excuse like my pet Monster has a Space or Gravity attribute.’
John decided to wait for ten days. The winners of the competition would go to the Nexus City to participate in the special dimensional island.
According to Azelis, this special dimensional island only permitted entry of Silver-rank Tamers, and inside were also strong Silver-rank Monsters, but the island had exotic and higher-ranking resources. It was abundant with treasures, so there was a high chance John could find Gravity and Space attributed resources there.
’And if not, I can just buy them in the Nexus city.’
Based on what Azelis had told him about the nexus city, there was a 100% chance he would find all kinds of resources there, including the ones he wanted, in shops and auctions.
And since he had nothing else to do anymore, John decided to return to the courtyard and summoned Rexion.
"Give me Bloodscript energy worth 500 soul energy."
Rexion blinked and nodded, emptying his soul energy pool as a big blob of red energy manifested before John, littered with eccentric dark gold patterns.
It was time to practice his Soul Technique, Blood Allow Sculpting, but using Bloodscript energy instead of Blood to get a hang of it and build affinity with it.
In the blink of an eye, hours passed by, and night arrived.
John went to the middle area of the mountain where the Tamers were more active due to having a commercial area with food stalls and stuff.
The father and daughter who cooked food for Azelis when she was here had their restaurant open, so John went and filled up his stomach before leaving.
"Hey, John!"
"You returned?"
"Woah, your aura looks strong."
A group of people who were passing by saw John coming out of the restaurant just several meters ahead and approached him.
"Wait, you really reached the peak of Silver-rank, man!"
These people were none other than the group that was friendly to him from the start when he went on monthly expeditions at an Ouroboros-owned island.
"Sup, how you all doing?" John smiled. "And yes, I reached the peak of Silver-rank. And I am ready to beat everyone tomorrow, so see you later. I am going to sleep now. Had a long day."
