Chapter 46: Esper Academy

"I’m not even going to bother to talk," Rina said, folding into herself with her legs resting against her chin, her eyes half-closed from boredom.

Kaizer and Keith shared knowing looks but didn’t try to bother her. They could somewhat understand how the young girl was feeling because she had finally received an answer about the super-secret society that was hidden behind the veil of the world, and it turned out to be quite... unremarkable... to say the least.

It was more than just that too.

"So? What do you think?" Keith asked his son since his niece opted out of the talk.

"Looking at it, we really only have one choice, and only had one from the start," Kaizer answered while folding his arms, his tone casual.

"Exactly, whether your mother or your aunt, both of them unanimously agreed that the two of you should enroll in the Esper Academy," Keith revealed, leaning back into his seat.

Rina groaned audibly, throwing her hands into the sky. "I knew it! From the moment I saw the list, I knew you guys would send us to school again!"

Keith glanced at his beloved niece with a soft look. "Rina, you have to understand that it’s the best option you have."

Rina instantly settled down. "I know, Uncle, it’s just that my previous school just blew up, and now I already have a new one before the month ended."

Kaizer and Keith were rendered speechless by this. They had both thought that the destruction of the school would weigh heavily on the young girl’s mind, especially since she had witnessed many of the killings firsthand.

Clearly, they were overthinking. Whether it was Rina’s own natural resilience or something inherited from the nature of her death-related powers, she did not seem bothered that hundreds of her former friends and acquaintances died unjustly.

Both men did not know how to feel about that.

"So how do we sign up?" Rina, not noticing the silence, asked while flipping through the document.

"That part is simple. Our family shall visit the headquarters of the Esper Academy within our city and enroll you two directly as soon as tomorrow morning," Keith answered resolutely.

"Get some sleep, you two, and no more training for now. From tomorrow, you will be entering a new Chapter of your lives, so be rested and ready for it," Keith instructed the two, which they nodded to.

As the two left the office, Keith couldn’t help but sigh deeply, the worry evident on his features.

.......

The next morning, the entire Lunin family sat in their family Escalade and sped through the streets of the sprawling Alpha City, heading towards the area closer to the forest on the eastern side. That part of the city led to sprawling mountain ranges and an expanse of untamed forests left alone for nature preservation purposes.

Unsurprisingly, it was here that the secretive Esper Academy was constructed, away from the prying eyes of the non-espers so that those studying here could feel free to pursue their studies with full vigor.

The mountain trail leading to the gates of the academy was quite well-developed, so cars could easily make their way up, but Kaizer sensed more than one presence scanning their vehicle on the way up. Unfortunately, their vehicle seemed to lack something, some marker or the other that denoted that this car was manned by espers, so many of these presences subtly tried to influence the family or stop them.

However, Kaizer easily neutralized their abilities, making them feel apprehensive because they realized that an esper was in the car, and it was one with a power that was quite advanced. Torn between taking more direct action and letting it go, most just decided to report upwards and let someone else handle it.

Kaizer was aware of this and even informed Keith, who was naturally driving the car this time, to stop near a tree on the pathway.

"From here, Rina and I will have to go alone. I can sense an entourage ahead that plans to stop and question us, and I can sense that they are very powerful. Since espers don’t respect non-espers, there is no telling what they might do to you guys," Kaizer said as he got down.

Rina was confused but got down with him, moving to open the back and take out her stuff. After all, from what they knew about the Esper Academy, it was a campus-style university that had boarding features as well as strict rules on who could come and go.

Kaizer didn’t pack much since he figured he could buy anything he wanted on campus as they were rich, but Rina still packed nearly five suitcases even with this knowledge. Keith did not object to this but simply admonished the duo on their safety while Charlene and Katherine fussed over them endlessly.

It was around seven minutes later that Rina and Kaizer casually walked down the path, their luggage dragging itself behind them as if invisible people were carrying them. Kaizer wore a grey polo t-shirt, blue-green jeans, and a pair of grey Vans sneakers.

On his wrist was a custom black and red G-shock MRGB2000JS1A wristwatch, which was only limited to 800 pieces worldwide.

As for Rina, she simply tied her red hair into an upright bun with a scarf and wore a fashionable outfit featuring a white sweetheart neckline blouse that displayed her powerful cleavage, a pair of high-waisted wedgie-fit jeans that would cause many accidental physiological reactions from onlookers, and a pair of brown retro sandals from Bettie Page.

On her arm was a Margaux Satchel handbag from Kate Spade and a pair of Ray-Ban vintage shades.

Whether Kaizer or Rina, they looked like a pair of rich second-generation kids out on a casual walk, not two esper younglings coming to an academy for the first time.

In fact, those who were waiting for them ahead thought as much when the duo walked over, especially from Rina, who didn’t even bother to give them much of a look, rather coaxing her brother to carry her on his back since her feet hurt.

As for Kaizer, he only forked a finger and lifted Rina off the ground slightly, allowing her to follow beside him while levitating. The young lady then folded her arms with dissatisfaction and pouted, looking angrily at them as if they were the reason.

"HALT! You two, what are you doing here?" the man in the lead of the group ordered, his expression stern.

"What does it look like, you dumbass? We’re here to enroll in your dumb school, not stare at your ugly mug!" Rina fired off before Kaizer could even say anything.

The man who shouted was left speechless, wondering why he had been attacked like this. Kaizer glanced at Rina silently, making the young girl become silent and sigh.

"I apologize for my words, I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that," Rina apologized immediately.

The fellow seemed nonchalant as he waved a hand magnanimously, but that was mostly because Rina was beautiful and young. If it had been another man or a slightly uglier girl talking to him like that, he would have used his power on them immediately to teach them a lesson.

"No harm done. So I take it you two are new students coming to enroll? No problem, follow me to the administrative building," he said as he made a gesture to the others with him who looked more like a motley crew than any security team.

They wore casual attire and were of varied age groups and ethnicities. Most of them eyed the floating Rina as they passed, wondering what her esper ability was and if it was related to flight, then marveled at her top-class figure and looks.

Others also observed the ever-calm Kaizer closely, feeling like he looked somewhat familiar while also trying to guess his esper ability. Seeing the luggage neatly and orderly following the duo, the faces of the group changed slightly.

The luggage may not be heavy, but the level of control in which they moved suggested extreme skill, so even though they did not know what power either of them specifically had, they felt like they were not to be underestimated.

Kaizer and Rina were led to the gates of the academy, which were a large set of European-style gates painted in black, spread out for 50 meters on either side from the middle. Of course, they only took the side entrance for pedestrians to the left, entering a vast courtyard which spread out to the north, east, and western direction, with the south being where they came from.

"Well, welcome to the Esper Academy. This wasn’t always the headquarters though, but the headquarters always shifts with the changing of the times and the ruling dynasty. As the current ruling empire is the United Federation, our headquarters was moved here around 100 years ago," the fellow introduced with a grand gesture, then turned to them with a friendly smile.

"Also, my name is Hector, and I am an A-rank student of the 93rd Echelon. Nice to meet you two."
