Chapter 129: Chapter 117 I’ll Handle This Matter_1
"Uncle Wang, it seems this man is looking to give you trouble. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to tell me." said Tang Qing after Xie Jun had left.
Although Tang Qing was uncertain about Wang Sheng’s background, he understood that Wang must have some connections to establish a post-mortem business on such a scale. Nevertheless, he had to say this. He couldn’t just guarantee a solution and risk embarrassing Wang Sheng, the head of the family.
"It’s okay, I can handle this little situation." Wang Sheng laughed heartily. He knew that Tang Qing could solve the problem with the deputy director, but how could he let a junior take action and compromise his dignity?
"That’s good. But if the need arises, please don’t hesitate." Tang Qing reiterated.
"Alright. By the way, what’s going on with Xie Wendong? Why was his class changed?" Wang Sheng asked out of curiosity. A student being reassigned was no small matter. The fact that Xie Jun didn’t even know was... very interesting.
Wang Sheng’s interest was piqued.
Tang Qing then carefully explained the situation, speaking only of the vice principal’s actions. He didn’t mention the schoolyard bullies. These matters were better left unsaid, to avoid a cascade of questions that would leave things unresolved.
"Hmph, such a despicable person." Shi Lan, with a sense of ’justice’ was the first to comment.
Wang Sheng didn’t say anything. Initially, he thought Xie Wendong could be saved if he just needed help in his studies. But now it seemed the father and son were of the same ilk: crooked from top to bottom. Furthermore, they had designs on his daughter, which was absolutely unacceptable. He had made up his mind: if they dared to reach out, they had better be prepared to have their hands chopped off.
Despite a minor hiccup, the meal was quite enjoyable. After a few drinks, Wang Sheng freely imparted business knowledge to Tang Qing without any withholding. Tang Qing played along, expressing his wish to learn more from his teachings, which delighted Wang Sheng to no end.
Everyone has an inherent desire to teach and give advice to others. It’s a part of human nature. In the past, Wang Sheng never had the opportunity to share his ’family secrets’. But now, with Tang Qing as his eager listener, he found it hard to stop talking.
In this harmonious atmosphere, Tang Qing concluded his first family dinner at Wang Yan’s home.

Wang Yan and her mother began to wash the dishes in the kitchen, engaging in casual conversation.
"My dear, what exactly is your relationship with Tang Qing?" Shi Lan couldn’t help but ask. She had wanted to meet Tang Qing in person before asking this question. Shi Lan had been observing her daughter’s reactions during dinner. Although Wang Yan disguised herself well, not favouring Tang Qing with extra servings or flattering conversation, she could not conceal her feelings from her mother’s intuition. Clearly, something was going on.
"Just classmates and desk-mates, Mum. What else could it be?" Wang Yan managed to calm her nerves before responding.
"Heh, you are a piece of my own flesh. Do you think you can fool your mother? This boy may be excellent, but we still need to observe him." Shi Lan chuckled. She had to admit that she would love to have Tang Qing as a son-in-law. And this thought had solidified right when Tang Qing had stood up for her daughter. If Tang Qing had remained silent just then, she would never have approved of him.
"What are you talking about... he has a fiancée. We... it’s impossible." Wang Yan let out the truth, feeling bitterness in her heart. Tang Qing, who had become more and more outstanding, was like a narcotic that she was addicted to but couldn’t quit. She was confused.
"Oh? That’s a shame. I like the young man a lot, and he would have made an outstanding son-in-law. That fiancée of his is very lucky." Shi Lan commented with slight disappointment. Such a good prospective son-in-law just flew away, and it seemed her daughter was deeply smitten. Shi Lan felt a pang of bitterness. Annother complicated feeling.
"Mum... I can’t deal with you." Wang Yan pouted her lips.
"Hehe, let’s not talk about it anymore. About Chinese New Year..." held fast to change the subject. She understood that her daughter was at an age where she was full of fantasies about love. If she said too much, it could probably have a counterproductive effect. Considering her daughter’s independent personality, she only hoped her daughter would mature soon and put an end to this impossible love. She never thought about advising her daughter to snatch Tang Qing back. She didn’t understand the whole story, but with so many people supporting him, Tang Qing’s future was not going to be ordinary and his family situation was certain to be complicated. A simple nod in any direction could bring disaster, all they could do was leave it to fate.
.......
Wang Sheng sat in the living room, reflecting on the day’s events.
Clearly, Xie Jun was definitely going to cause him trouble, and it could be quite considerable. He didn’t have enough influence in the city to strip him of his official duties. But he didn’t want to turn to Tang Qing for help either, so he had only one option left.
Wang Sheng picked up his mobile phone, left the house and dialled a number he rarely called. The owner of the number was none other than Zhu Zhenyi, the member of the provincial party committee, the commander of the military district, also his brother-in-law.
Though he couldn’t gain any economic benefits through this connection, his brother-in-law wouldn’t stand by and watch him be bullied. Especially now that not only he was being targeted, but Wang Yan was also involved. No matter the possibility, they would never ignore Wang Yan.
Pensive, Wang Sheng pressed the call button.
It couldn’t be helped; the disparity in their statuses inevitably made him cautious. Originally, he intended to call his sister directly. But in the end, he didn’t want his sister to get wind of this, lest she become enraged and confront her husband, which could lead to a misunderstanding that he was using his sister to ’manipulate’ her husband. It was best to avoid this misunderstanding.
"Little brother, what’s up?" A thick voice came over the phone.
Upon hearing this voice, Wang Sheng’s body tensed involuntarily. He couldn’t help it; he was nervous.
"Brother, there’s something I want to discuss with you, it’s not about the project, it’s like this..."
Wang Sheng dared not to beat around the bush. He knew that his brother-in-law was usually busy, so he briefly described what had happened, emphasizing the point about how Xie Wendong would affect Wang Yan’s studies.
As expected, Zhu Zhenyi was furious when he heard it. That Xie Jun, who doesn’t even know how to live, wants to switch seats and even wants his niece to tutor his son. He even threatened his younger brother, it’s simply outrageous.
"Damn bastard, it makes me angry! Little brother, leave this man to me and see if I don’t give him a good lesson. Speaking of which, have you told your sister yet?" Zhu Zhenyi said in a rage.
"Not yet, I didn’t want to worry her, so I didn’t say anything." Wang Sheng quickly replied.
"Hmm, that’s good, it’s better not to let her know. We want our home to be more peaceful. I will handle this, and you just focus on your business. Remember to abide by the laws and regulations, I won’t help you, but I won’t allow anyone to bully you, understand?" Zhu Zhenyi nodded, agreeing with Wang Sheng’s behavior. If his wife found out, that would mean more trouble.
Zhu Zhenyi was very satisfied with his brother-in-law Wang Sheng. Over the years, he had never taken advantage of his position for any personal gain and he didn’t like to stir up trouble. Wang Sheng rarely asked for his help over these years. For this reason, Zhu Zhenyi vowed to deal with this matter cleanly. He had two sons but no daughter, and Wang Yan was his only niece whom he absolutely adored.
Damn it, how dare you bully my niece. You’re courting death.
"Brother, I understand." Wang Sheng promptly responded.
"Okay, I have some work to deal with, that’s it then." Zhu Zhenyi nodded, and in his mind he started contemplating who should handle this matter. Soon he had an answer. One of his deputy regiment leaders happened to be the nephew of the mayor of Qingyan City. Yes, he would be just perfect for this task.
"Alright, Brother, you may carry on with your work." Wang Sheng said.
"Hmm."
After hanging up the phone, Wang Sheng heaved a big sigh of relief. The difference in status truly made a difference in how conversational dynamics unfolded. Even he could not escape this mindset.
Let’s see how long you can last, Wang Sheng smirked inwardly.
Although the military has no jurisdiction over local affairs, it depends on who is involved. If Zhu Zhenyi said he had no friends in the government, that would be a lie. For Zhu Zhenyi to take down a minor official like him who was corrupt to the core, even within the boundaries of the rules, there were more ways than one could imagine.
As expected, the very next day, Xie Jun tried to put stumbling blocks in his path on approvals. These approval requests had passed before, but now he received a call saying they were not satisfactory and needed re-evaluation.
Wang Sheng could do nothing but condescend to this absurdity. These officials truly saw themselves as invincible! His insight was spot on. If he didn’t have some connections, god knows what he would be subjected to.
Of course, Wang Sheng was not in a position to openly defy the ’higher authorities’. He had to show the due respect and deference. This was not in reverence to Xie Jun, but in reverence to his position. Wang Sheng was not foolhardy and knew that he could clash with officials but not with their clouts. This was a fundamental unwritten rule. Those who recklessly challenged it rarely ended up on the right side of it. Although he was fearless, he knew he had to deal with these people in the future too. There was no need to combat ’top level decisions’.
Despite this ’capitulation’, Wang Sheng didn’t do much else. He didn’t even try to smooth things over by inviting him for a meal. He simply went through the approval process again as a matter of routine, waiting for Zhu Zhenyi to make his move. This puzzled Xie Jun as it didn’t match the script he had in his mind.
Just as Xie Jun was gearing up to cause more trouble for Wang Sheng...
Trouble knocked at his own door.
Friday.
As soon as the afternoon shift began...
The Prosecutor’s Office came and took Xie Jun away, placing him under double regulations immediately. Xie Jun knew his game was up and passed out on the spot.
Three days later, news came out that Xie Jun was under investigation for bribery and corruption. Xie Wendong was also arrested for two previous assault cases in the county and disappeared from then on.
