Chapter 48: Chapter 46: Another Score (Seeking Recommendations!)_1

Friday.

Tang Qing received 83.5 million from Liu Qian.

He immediately transferred the money into his account.

Honestly, he didn’t know if his account was being monitored by the bank. He feared that if he retrieved it too late, it would be frozen, and he wouldn’t be able to repay Liu Qian.

So he had always been extremely sensitive to this. The moment the money was transferred into the system, it was the safest place. No one could trace its whereabouts or freeze system accounts.

In fact, Tang Qing was overthinking.

Banks do monitor transactions of such a large scale.

But there are procedural limitations. When the money is transferred in, the banking system does flag it as an exception, but the system is doing the transferring out, covering up its legality and encryption.

In layman’s terms.

It means the system automatically modifies or evades bank supervision.

After all, this is only about domestic RMB circulation, and not foreign currency. If it were, it would be troublesome. Not to mention the clearing with the Central Bank, internal settlement within the bank itself would raise red flags and be listed as a key monitoring target.

As for how Liu Qian handled this money in the end.

That was none of his business.

Let’s just say it increased the nation’s foreign exchange reserves.

He remembered a statistic.

It is said that in the first half of 2007, China’s foreign exchange reserves increased by more than 260 billion US dollars. Excluding 120 billion US dollars in trade surplus and more than 30 billion US dollars in overseas investment.

Where did the other 100 billion US dollars in foreign exchange come from?

This is an unquantifiable set of data.

Of course.

There must be other legitimate sources of foreign exchange in this. But even if these shady dealers only accounted for 5% of the remainder, one can imagine how big the market is. Anyhow, they are increasing the nation’s foreign exchange.

This can be considered a good thing.

The nation has always been short of foreign exchange.

Even with the size of 3 trillion in the future, it may seem like a lot. But when you calculate the various uses, it really isn’t a lot. Taking everything into account, if the nation doesn’t have foreign exchange income for half a year, it will collapse.

Let alone in 2004.

Earning foreign exchange is still the mainstream thought, encouraging import and discouraging export.

So Tang Qing found a reason for himself to do things without guilt—earning foreign exchange.

This is a necessity.

Everyone needs an excuse and reason to convince themselves to side with justice when doing something, no matter how illogical the reason is. As long as there is one, it is enough.

...

Sunday.

Morning.

Tang Qing continued to deliver the money to Liu Qian in his minivan.

Ten million dollars.

It took nearly an hour to count it all. Thankfully, the banknote counter didn’t burn out.

This time, Liu Qian didn’t specify the time and amount for the next transaction. He said it might have to wait until next month. Tang Qing didn’t think much of it. Such a large amount of US dollars indeed required some digestion time for Liu Qian.

All in all, this transaction made him a profit of 3.5 million.

Adding to the previous 1.05 million and the 450,000 from the first transaction.

He earned a total of 5 million from Liu Qian. However, his account balance was now 4.98 million. The investigation of Liu Qian’s credit, the clothes he bought for Lin Jiaxue, and other expenses had reduced some of the amount.

4.98 million.

Chuckles...

Looking at the balance in his account over and over again, Tang Qing couldn’t help but exclaim how good it feels to have money.

This is indeed a sign of wealth. But this is far from his ideal limit. He would see what currency the system would unlock in the next level. This would determine his next move.

Also, he remembered that the US dollar was always depreciating against the RMB.

As long as it depreciates to less than 1:8 but more than 1:7.5, his business would not be viable. But he couldn’t quite remember when and what caused this. Maybe it was in a few months or a few years.

Who knows.

This was not in his memory.

After lunch.

Tang Qing returned to the restaurant with the minivan, sitting at the front desk to work on his homework.

At this point, it was past lunchtime, and there were no customers.

Li Jianguo was sitting in the hall watching TV, and Li Kai was doing his homework beside him.

They didn’t write together to prevent Li Kai from copying Tang Qing’s work. After all, Li Jianguo was stunned by Tang Qing’s exam results and hence became stricter with Li Kai.

"Young boss, come and eat some watermelon." Zhang Jing handed him a piece of watermelon.

Seeing the young face next to her, Zhang Jing felt a little spring in her heart. After all, every young girl has a crush, especially when Tang Qing is so excellent. But the gap between their ages and statuses made her keep it in her heart.

"Okay, you have some too." Tang Qing took the watermelon.

Though watermelon was super expensive at this time of year.

But a big restaurant like theirs could afford it. As soon as Tang Qing arrived, Li Jianguo killed five watermelons. The ’executives’ of the restaurant had one each, and the rest were divided among the waiters and the kitchen staff.

"Tangtang, what are you doing here?"

A voice sounded at Tang Qing’s ear. Looking up, it was his uncle. But at this moment, his uncle was following behind a middle-aged man in a police uniform whom he didn’t recognize.

Presumably, he was a leader in the municipal bureau.

"I’m doing my homework here. I’m going to dinner with Li Kai tonight." Tang Qing chose to hide the fact that they were going singing. It’s better to keep a low profile about going to entertainment venues, in case his uncle scolded him.

They had originally planned to go last night, after all, it was Sunday the next day, but Wang Yan suddenly had something going on, so they postponed it by a day.

"Yes, do your homework well. We missed dinner today. Boss Li, please get us some special dishes," Qin Yugang said, turning to Li Jianguo. Li Jianguo responded and went into the kitchen to prepare.

"Yugang, who is this?" The lead policeman joked.

"Tangtang, this is Secretary Feng from our city’s Political and Legal Affairs Committee. This is my nephew, Tang Qing. This restaurant is owned by his classmate’s family," Qin Yugang quickly introduced.

"Haha, young man, you must be a good student," Feng Hai laughed.

"Uncle, you flatter me. You’re the one who’s truly... Wait, what do they call it?" Tang Qing joked.

In front of such important people, it’s still necessary to act like a student. They’ve seen their share of people who’ve met with misfortune, so it’s best to play the part. If he started flattering right out off the bat, they might think he was too worldly for his age.

"Haha, the young man really... knows how to talk," Feng Hai laughed heartily.

"Secretary, let’s go up to the box. Tangtang, focus on your homework and come home early tonight," Qin Yugang said.

Seeing how pleased his boss was, he also felt happy and gave Tang Qing a mental thumbs up. He knew Tang Qing’s caliber and how it was impossible for him to get such a simple idiom wrong.

"Understood," Tang Qing agreed.

Qin Yugang and the others went up.

Tang Qing knew that lately Qin Yugang had been entertaining his guests here, usually on credit. This was at Tang Qing’s request. His uncle didn’t object. Since his nephew was doing so well, he could also enjoy the benefits.

After all, even if they went somewhere else to entertain, it would still cost money. Of course, he wouldn’t completely take advantage of his nephew. If he could get reimbursed, he wouldn’t take out his own money foolishly. Only private meals would be charged to Tang Qing’s account.

They only stayed for half an hour before leaving.

Presumably, they had urgent matters to attend to.

Tang Qing didn’t ask.

It was best not to pry into these things to avoid awkwardness.

In the evening, Wang Yan came as promised to Tang Qing’s shop. Seeing the smile on Wang Yan’s face, it seemed like everything should be fine. Tang Qing wasn’t interested in prying into people’s personal affairs. As long as they were resolved, it was ok.

"Tang Qing, where are we going? You’re being so secretive," Li Kai couldn’t help but ask as they got on the car. Earlier, Tang Qing had mentioned treating them to a meal, but hadn’t mentioned a specific location. He had asked several times in the afternoon, but Tang Qing wouldn’t say.

"You’ll know when you get there," Tang Qing said with a mysterious smile.

"Fine, be that way. No matter what you feed us, I’ll give you a bad review," Li Kai crossed his arms, speaking dismissively.

"Haha, okay, I’d love to see you give me a bad review later," Tang Qing laughed.

Wang Yan watched the two of them bicker.

She played with her fingers, smiling without a word.

A short while later.

The car pulled up to the ’Tianfu Hotel’. The name sounds auspicious. The words "Tian" and "Qian" came to Tang Qing’s mind, with Qian representing heaven and Kun representing earth. It’s a great name.

The hotel is located by the Qing River.

It has an excellent view and covers a large area, composed of a twenty-eight-story main building and two nine-story auxiliary buildings positioned at right angles. The first nine floors are mainly used for dining, leisure, and entertainment.

The nine floors above are mainly for business meetings and accommodation.

Looking at the banner at the entrance, Tang Qing realized that there’s also a cinema here. But there’s only one screen, and it shows on-demand broadcasts throughout the day. This place is simply high-end. He felt as if he was seeing a nouveau riche.

Any convenience that could be provided was provided. He hadn’t heard of five-star hotels that offered movie screenings. It seems that he was really quite ignorant. Liu Qian had really thought of everything.

It’s good to be rich and carefree.

Seeing the architecture, Tang Qing couldn’t help but maliciously think that if the two auxiliary buildings were on either side of the main building, wouldn’t it be like a single pillar supporting the sky? Then he thought of the CCTV "Underpants" Building.

With this thought, Tang Qing couldn’t help laughing.

"Old Tang, what’s so funny? Why did you bring us here, to eat hot pot?" Li Kai asked after taking a look around, noticing that the driver had not driven into the hotel but stopped by the roadside.

Tang Qing didn’t say a word.

He paid and left.

Li Kai was referring to a string of restaurants far across from the Tianfu Hotel, which included a hot pot restaurant with a large sign that was easy to see from a distance. He would never imagine that Tang Qing would treat them to a five-star hotel.

"Nothing, just felt like laughing," Tang Qing finally managed to control his laughter.

"Fine, be that way," Li Kai turned his head.

"Let’s go."

Tang Qing headed towards the Tianfu Hotel, while the other two didn’t move.

"Old Tang, you’re going the wrong way; it’s over there," Li Kai said, pointing to the location of the hot pot restaurant.

"Stop talking and hurry up," Tang Qing said without turning his head, motioning forward with his hand.

Wang Yan and Li Kai exchanged glances and quickly followed.

"Damn, I knew you were rich, but I didn’t expect you to be this generous," Li Kai quickly caught up with Tang Qing.

"Let’s go, order whatever you want. I see that there’s a business KTV here, so let’s have a good time singing later. They offer comprehensive services here. I don’t feel like going to that karaoke hall anymore," Tang Qing said as he walked.

"Alright, I’m going to make sure that you feel the pinch so much that you spit blood. I won’t stop until I achieve this!" Li Kai said, clenching his fist. Of course, he was only saying this. He couldn’t be outdone in terms of words, right?

"Alright, just wait and see if you can do it," Tang Qing provoked.

After all, it was all free, so they should take advantage of it.

"You just wait, you’ll see what’s coming," Li Kai waved his fist. He initially wanted to save Tang Qing some money, but after hearing that, he decided he would definitely order the most expensive dishes.

Make Tang Qing regret it.

Yes.

That’s what he decided.

"Well, I’ll wait and see then." Tang Qing shrugged.

With all the bantering.

Tang Qing and the others entered the hotel’s main gate.
