Chapter 322: Chapter 322: Are You Nearby?

Lin Fengying knocked on Si Xiaohui’s door for a long time but the door remained shut. Seeing Song Yu sitting in the yard with a gloomy face, she felt extremely awkward, unable to ascertain whether Si Xiaohui was crying because she got hit or because of Gu Hongwei.

Si Xiaohui had been sobbing alone in her room until Si Weimin returned home. Seeing her red and swollen eyes, Si Weimin expressed concern.

"What happened? Why are your eyes so swollen from crying? You shouldn’t cry during your postpartum recovery period as it may cause eye discomfort later."

After saying this, he frowned and gave Song Yu a nasty look, which frightened Song. He hurriedly said, "Uncle, I didn’t bully Xiaohui. Look, Xiaohui scratched me like this, and I didn’t even fight back."

"It really has nothing to do with Song Yu." Lin Fengying seemed to want to say something but held back, as if there was something inconvenient to say.

Si Weimin was completely baffled and asked curiously, "What happened?"

Si Xiaohui waited for a long while before speaking with a choked voice, exaggerating: "Uncle, Tong Yao has been treating me poorly. When I took mum to visit her, she slapped me. I’m still recovering from giving birth, yet she hit me. My face is swollen from the hit, and she even declared that I am not allowed in her shop, claiming that it is her shop and I am not worthy of going there. She called me disgraceful and said I was a disgrace to the Si Family."

When he heard that Si Xiaohui had been hit and humiliated, Si Weimin’s face immediately darkened. He glanced at Lin Fengying, and seeing her silent as if acknowledging Xiaohui’s words, his brows furrowed severely.

Seeing her uncle concerned, Si Xiaohui continued tearfully: "Uncle, is it because I’ve been without a father since I was young and had no one to support me, so Tong Yao dares to treat me this way? If my father were alive, he surely wouldn’t sit by and let others bully me."

Those words stung Si Weimin deeply, filling his heart with guilt. With a stern face, he said, "No one can bully you. Tonight, I will have a talk with Xiaochen."

The meaning was clear; he was planning on standing up for Si Xiaohui.

When Si Xiaohui heard this, she stopped crying instantly. Her face changed faster than flipping a page in a book as she held onto Si Weimin’s arm: "Uncle, I knew you love me the most. You are even better to me than my own father."

Si Weimin’s heart softened. He patted her shoulder consolingly: "With your uncle here, no one can bully you. Go wash your face. When your brother comes back tonight, I will have a chat with him."

Si Chen had proposed a difficult task by sending over Lin Fengying and Si Xiaohui but Si Weimin didn’t have a problem with it. However, he could not stand seeing Si Xiaohui being mistreated.

As the older brother and sister-in-law, it was one thing not to care for the younger sister, but how could they bully her?

Tong Yao was his niece. He, as an uncle, naturally could not confront Tong Yao. However, as a man, Si Chen needed to provide an explanation.

Si Chen was wronged by him, not Si Xiaohui. The grudges of the older generation should not affect Xiaohui.

"I’ll go with you tonight. I haven’t visited Xiaochen since I returned," Lin Fengying gently interjected.

"Okay." Si Weimin nodded.

Si Xiaohui looked discontented at Lin Fengying, "Mum, you can’t side with Tong Yao this time." Just thinking about how Lin Fengying, her mother, didn’t utter a word when she was hit infuriated her.

None of the two most loved ones were willing to take her side. They only spoke sweet words on usual days, but they were cowardly when matters arose.

Especially Song Yu; he was just a big coward.

She must’ve been blind to put up with someone like Song Yu.

Lin Fengying glanced at Si Weimin before talking to Si Xiaohui: "She is your sister-in-law. I can’t stoop to her level."

Si Xiaohui countered: "You are her mother-in-law. If you beat her, would she dare retaliate?" She was implying that her mother was a coward, afraid to confront Tong Yao.

With the accusation, Lin Fengying’s eyes reddened, seeming even more wronged than Si Xiaohui.

Upon seeing this, Si Weimin interjected: "It isn’t fair to blame your mother. As an elder, it is inappropriate for her to get involved in your troubles. If anyone hits you again, fight back. Whatever happens, your uncle will cover you. I might not be swimming in riches in Kyoto, but I can certainly protect you."

If heaven wanted to punish him for his sins, He should direct all of its punishments to him alone.

He had wronged Lin Fengying and her daughter in the past, and he couldn’t tolerate them being bullied in his sight once more.

Si Xiaohui’s eyes reddened with gratitude. Seeing Si Weimin so devoted to his daughter, Lin Fengying also felt much relieved. She said, "Both of you rest for a while, I am going to make our dinner."

Seeing Lin Fengying going to the kitchen, Si Weimin spoke to Si Xiaohui: "Go keep your mum company. I need to talk to Song Yu."

Si Xiaohui, feeling better, complied and strode into the kitchen. Seeing Lin Fengying preparing to cook rice, she pouted and sighed: "How great it would be if Uncle were my real father! Tong Yao surely wouldn’t dare to bully me, and no one would dare to bully you. Our family of three would have a great time living in Kyoto."

Lin FengYing’s hand faltered, and she softly scolded: "Don’t talk nonsense. If your aunty hears that, she will resent us more."

"Then, let her hear." Xiaohui pouted: "It would be even better if Uncle divorces her and lives with us. We are so comfortable living as a family here. Uncle would take care of affairs outside, and you look after the home inside. We would no longer live in fear of others."

When she heard about Erniu’s wife and Danui’s affairs, she felt disgusted, but the thought of her mother and uncle seemed less repulsive.

If Uncle truly joined them as a family, and became her father, he would surely take better care of her and she won’t worry about money anymore.

Lin Fengying gave no response, but her heart remained unsteady for a long time...

"Uncle, is there something you want to say to me?" Song Yu felt uneasy under Si Weimin’s gaze and stammered nervously. His eyes darted away, not daring to meet Si Weimin’s, scared at the prospect of Si Weimin giving him a kick.

Si Weimin glared coldly: "Were you there when Xiaohui was being hit?"

"Yes." Song Yu nodded with his head shrunk.

Upon hearing that, Si Weimin’s face darkened even more. He asked in a frosty voice: "As Xiaohui’s husband, you stood by and watched while she was getting bullied?"

"Uncle, the person who hit Xiaohui was her sister-in-law, I couldn’t fight back." Song Yu felt wronged, but his voice was weak when speaking to Si Weimin even though he had a valid point.

Little did he know, his spineless appearance disappointed Si Weimin even more, "So, you just stood by while Xiaohui was being bullied?"
