Chapter 347: Chapter 347 Meeting
As far as she knew, Si Chen had never been to such a place. She knew he was quiet and unreactive, prone to hiding his emotions. But was he too unflappable?
Tong Yao found it strange the more she thought about it, she looked up at him, whispered, "Ahchen, have you ever been to this type of place before?"
"No." Si Chen said.
Tong Yao blinked her eyes. "Then, aren’t you nervous?"
Si Chen replied calmly: "I am here to meet a friend for dinner, not going to a battlefield. What’s there to be nervous about?"
Tong Yao: "..."
Alright then!
She was overthinking. As someone with Si Chen’s personality, he certainly wouldn’t feel nervous just because he was in a new place.
Thinking about it, anyone who could operate on someone’s skull with a surgical knife would obviously be steady; why would he be nervous?
She guessed even if a knife was placed on his neck, he would only start reacting after the surgery was over.
"Excuse me, did you arrange to meet someone here?" a pretty waitress suddenly walked over and politely asked.
Tong Yao spoke in a crisp voice: "We arranged to meet Miss Wang."
"Oh, you’re the friends of Mrs. Wang and Mr. Zhao!" the waitress immediately said: "Mrs. Wang and Mr. Zhao have already arrived, let me take you to them."
"Thank you." Tong Yao smiled faintly.
Luckily, Tong Yao had guessed from the way Wang Chun uttered the name of the restaurant that this must be quite an upscale place. They had prepared elegant outfits for the occasion, so they did not seem out of place here.
Moreover, both Si Chen and Tong Yao carried themselves elegantly and fit right into the restaurant.
Wang Chun and Zhao Wenkai were already seated in the private room. Seeing the waitress bring in Tong Yao, Wang Chun was very happy and immediately stood up with a laugh.
"Yaoyao."
Her gaze fell on Si Chen and then she winked at Tong Yao.
No wonder Tong Yao had said Si Chen was good looking and fell for him, such handsome men were indeed rare.
Noticing Wang Chun’s intentions, Tong Yao winked back at her and introduced, "Ah Chun, this is Si Chen, from my previous company."
Meanwhile, Tong Yao was also observing Zhao Wenkai.
To be honest, she felt that the aura around Zhao Wenkai was not at all like the person the Wang Chun had described.
The Zhao Wenkai before her portrayed an entirely shrewd demeanor, not like someone with a lover’s brain, but rather, a deeply calculating person.
Wang Chun, hearing Tong Yao’s words, remembered to introduce Zhao Wenkai, but before she could even begin, Zhao Wenkai cut her off.
Zhao Wenkai said with a smile, "No need for introductions, I just met Dr. Si today. I guess Dr. Si should remember me."
Tong Yao: "..."
Had she missed something?
Si Chen looked at Zhao Wenkai expressionlessly, apparently not surprised to see him there.
"Mr Zhao, what a coincidence."
Zhao Wenkai grinned, "Indeed! I had the same feeling when I found out that you were Tong Yao’s husband. Perhaps this was destiny! Doctor, don’t you agree?"
Although it was their first meeting, Zhao Wenkai was very polite. However, for some reason, Tong Yao found their conversation a bit odd.
Seeing Tong Yao’s confusion, Wang Chun quickly cleared her throat and explained. "Yaoyao, today my uncle had a car accident and was sent to the hospital where Dr. Si works. Moreover, Dr. Si was the lead surgeon. We didn’t get a chance to introduce ourselves to him properly because he was busy. We hope Dr. Si doesn’t mind."
The last sentence was directed towards Si Chen.
Tong Yao continued the conversation, "Was it purely coincidental?"
"Wasn’t it? I was surprised when I found out." Wang Chun suddenly realized that she had not invited the two to sit down, and immediately ushered Si Chen and Tong Yao to take a seat.
Zhao Wenkai’s attention had always been on Si Chen, and there was a constant smile on his face.
Tong Yao felt that his smile was a bit scheming, like he was plotting something.
But after all, he was Wang Chun’s husband and it was their first meeting. Tong Yao couldn’t figure out what Zhao Wenkai could be plotting.
Once everyone settled down, Zhao Wenkai asked the waitress to serve the dishes. Apart from introducing the signature dishes, he did not engage in any other conversation. It seemed like he was merely accompanying his wife to meet a friend.
However, Wang Chun started to worry about her uncle’s condition.
"Dr. Si, could you explain my uncle’s condition to me?"
Tong Yao also looked toward Si Chen.
"The operation was successful, and if he gets through tonight, his life will no longer be in danger." Si Chen stated honestly.
Zhao Wenkai’s hand holding the wine glass paused slightly. He leisurely took a sip, his eyes calculating something and showing a hint of danger.
"That’s great." Wang Chun sounded genuinely happy. "Thank you so much, Dr. Si, when do you think my uncle will wake up?" She was hoping that once her uncle woke up, he could prove Zhao Wenyu’s innocence.
Si Chen stated calmly, "He has suffered a brain injury and there’s a possibility that he may end up in a vegetative state."
Tong Yao looked at Si Chen in surprise.
Does that mean the operation was successful or not?
Wang Chun was stunned for a few seconds. She had just been cheerful, but in the blink of an eye, she heard the news that her uncle could end up in a vegetative state.
Not sure how to react, she subconsciously looked at Zhao Wenkai.
However, when Zhao Wenkai heard this, his expression became somewhat complex.
Si Chen had initially said the operation was successful, but now mentioned the possibility of a vegetative state. Zhao Wenkai was unable to gauge Si Chen’s intentions, and it wasn’t clear where Si Chen stood.
Was he playing enigmatic to raise the stakes, or was the reality as Si Chen described?
Zhao Wenkai stared at Si Chen, not missing any of his facial expressions or gestures.
"Dr. Si, what are the chances of my uncle waking up?"
"Fifty percent," Si Chen said.
He was simply answering a patient’s relative from a doctor’s perspective. The patient’s condition was indeed like that, and there was nothing that he couldn’t say.
Fifty percent?
Hearing this, Zhao Wenkai chuckled derisively in his heart.
He thought Si Chen was really above it all, turns out, he wanted to add to the stakes.
Probably because he was newly exposed to this sort of thing and was acting cautiously, or because it was his first exposure to this sort of thing and he was going through some moral conflict.
Zhao Wenkai had seen a lot of this kind of thing and didn’t take it to heart.
As long as money can solve the problem, it doesn’t count as a problem. He was not afraid of people being greedy, what he was afraid of was that people wouldn’t want anything at all.
Zhao Wenkai chuckled, "Doctor Si, we are not in the hospital now, let’s not talk about work-related matters."
He changed the topic and said, "I heard you both are planning to buy a house. I happen to know a lot of people, if you need my help, just say it. What I can help with, I’ll definitely do. After all... my uncle will need your extra care. You help me, I help you. It’s just as simple as that among friends, wouldn’t you agree, Doctor Si?"
