Chapter 408: Chapter 408 What kind of people are these!

Tong Yaohui waved his hand and said to Si Xiaohui, "Let Xiaochen come and talk to me."

Si Xiaohui, seeing the couple so angry, wasn’t scared but rather happier, thinking their anger was a good thing. The angrier they got, the more inclined they would be to want Tong Yao to divorce her elder brother.

With these thoughts in mind, Si Xiaohui grew more confident. She looked up defiantly, "You’re taking advantage of my brother’s loyalty, that’s why you want to talk to him. Don’t you think we know what he’s thinking? He’s had enough of Tong Yao long ago. Ever wondered why he and Tong Yao haven’t had a child yet? I’ll tell you the truth! It’s not that my brother can’t father a child, he just doesn’t want to, especially not with Tong Yao. If you have any shame left, make Tong Yao divorce my brother as soon as possible. Stop holding him up and stop causing trouble in our family."

The blatant words from Si Xiaohui were too much even for Tong Yaohui. Lin Fengying had some qualms too. If her eldest son ever heard what they were saying, wouldn’t he sever his relationship with her?

Wen Yun’s face turned pale with rage at Si Xiaohui’s outrageous words. If her upbringing hadn’t disciplined her well, she might have slapped Si Xiaohui, "Though our family isn’t filthy rich, we’re no pushovers either. Yes, your father did us a favor in the past, but haven’t we repaid your family over the years? It was Xiaochen who agreed to marry Yaoyao. What’s the purpose of your words now?"

"Can’t you understand the literal meaning of my words?" Si Xiaohui looked at the shop attendant present in the store, "You all, come look at this. Even after all I’ve said, this woman still wants to cling onto my brother, shamelessly at that!"

"Xiaohui..." Lin Fengying tried to nudge Si Xiaohui due to her unease.

Indeed, they had come with the intention of persuading Tong Yaohui to talk the kids into divorcing, but she hadn’t expected things to become so ugly.

Wen Yun’s face flushed alternately with anger and resentment. She didn’t want to engage with a person like Si Xiaohui, who lacked basic manners. She turned to Lin Fengying and said, "We are not stubborn fools. If the children truly lack affection, we would not force Yaoyao to endure hardships in your home, even without your harsh words."

Si Xiaohui rolled her eyes, "Great, take your disaster away as soon as possible."

"Keep your belligerence in check, or risk receiving no sympathy for being a widow and an orphan," retorted Wen Yun angrily.

"What, you want to beat me up?" Si Xiaohui squared herself off saying, "Just because you are city folks doesn’t mean you’re superior! Let me tell you, I’m not afraid. My uncle is also a resident of Kyoto now, if you dare oppress us, he will come to our defence immediately."

Wen Yun had seen enough, she realised she could not reason with the unreasonable mother and daughter duo. Disinclined to provoke them any further, she asked them to leave. "Get out, leave right now. We do not welcome you here." She had never encountered such mannerless people in all her years.

Si Xiaohui was not ready to go. She felt she had the upper hand and hadn’t had enough of the argument yet. But Lin Fengying was growing restless, noticing that Tong Yaohui was looking pale and the situation didn’t seem well. They mustn’t provoke him to the point of actually causing harm. Besides, the gathering crowd outside was gawking at the drama and she wasn’t comfortable with that, so she led Si Xiaohui out.

"Xiaohui, it’s enough that we’ve said our piece. Let’s go!"

After this fuss, Tong Yaohui and Wen Yun would surely consider pushing for Tong Yao’s divorce. No point in dragging this further.

Si Xiaohui acknowledged and, with an air of bravado, yelled at Wen Yun, "Leave? Gladly! Like we want to stay in this dump! But for Tong Yao clinging onto my brother so desperately, we wouldn’t have condescended to come."

Reaching the door, Si Xiaohui even spat on the floor. This disgusting act was the last straw for Tong Yaohui, who was already at his wit’s end. He almost fainted with anger, a steady and oppressive discomfort in his chest.

His hand was trembling uncontrollably.

Wen Yun was also seething. Through teary eyes, she complained to Tong Yaohui, "Remember how I opposed this marriage and you insisted? Just look at the kind of people they are! I wonder how much bullying Yao had to endure during her time in Li City, it’s no wonder she has changed so much." Despite being angry, Wen Yun kept voice down, unlike Si Xiaohui.

She was indeed satisfied with Si Chen, her son-in-law. But she had never met people like Lin Fengying and Si Xiaohui before.

And regarding Si Xiaohui’s earlier rant, she was not sure whether it was Si Xiaohui’s wayward ranting or Si Chen’s actual thoughts. Her gorgeous and sensible daughter came from a fairly well-off family, too.

If her family didn’t find any fault with the Si family, how could the Si family be so brazen to come here and talk like that?

What were these people!

As Wen Yun continued speaking, she grew more emotional and started beating lightly on Tong Yaohui’s chest. She didn’t exert much force, but he staggered back and sat down on the chair. It was then she noticed Tong Yaohui’s face was turning black and he didn’t look well.

Startled, she immediately supported Tong Yaohui. Pushing her anger aside, she asked with concern, "Yaohui, are you okay?"

Tong Yaohui’s hand and lips were visibly trembling, rendering him unable to speak. After much struggle, he finally managed to say, "I’m fine."

Wen Yun didn’t dare complain anymore. She started to pat his chest to help him breathe easier, "Let’s go to the hospital for a check-up! I hope there’s no serious health issue."

These past few days, Tong Yaohui had been complaining of occasional dizziness. Wen Yun had tried to persuade him to visit the hospital, but his stubbornness deterred him. She had previously assumed it could be due to low blood sugar, so she thought of improving his diet.

Now it seemed like it wasn’t a case of low blood sugar.

Old age brings a lot of health issues, one shouldn’t ignore minor health issues lest they escalate into major ones.

"I’m fine." Tong Yaohui was still quite angry. He took a few deep breaths and said with a stern face, "Go eat something! We’ll go check on Xiaochen later."

Seeing his face color improve, Wen Yun gave a sigh of relief and sat down. She let out a sigh and said, "I don’t have the appetite anymore. I’ll call Yaoyao and ask her to come over."

She had refrained from reacting physically due to Lin Fengying being a single woman raising three kids all by herself. However, that did not mean she was easily bullied. Yaoyao was her precious daughter.

She couldn’t bear to see Tong Yao being bullied.

When Tong Yao received the call, she was busy in the milk tea shop. The cold weather and the snowfall from the previous night had increased the number of people wanting to have milk tea. Deng Wenwen’s work schedule was completely packed until the New Year break.

The shop across the street was also doing well. They only had two shop attendants, both attractive young ladies. It was not known if it was their deliberate strategy to have the girls wear form-fitting clothes, drawing a lot of attention from the men. This provoked Deng Wenwen to roll her eyes frequently at the rival store.

Wear like that, don’t they fear catching a cold in this snowy weather?

"Yaoyao, do you have time to come here?" The phone conversation was not a place to discuss certain things, and Wen Yun made no mention of Lin Fengying’s visit.
