Chapter 435: Chapter 435: Divorce

Tong Yao rambled on and on but Si Chen remained silent. After she finished talking, he calmly said, "I don’t want any assets. Everything was earned by your hard work and dedication to business. Keep them for yourself."

Tong Yao was not surprised by Si Chen’s decision, so she reminded him, "This is considered marital property. You have a share too. Why don’t you want it?"

Before Si Chen could respond, she continued defiantly, "After marriage, you gave me all your salary. What will you use for money when you go abroad?"

Living abroad is not like staying in the country. Then, you’d have to spend money everywhere. Without money, you could even starve. He’s there to go for further studies. If he worried about his livelihood every day, how could he study properly?

"Go abroad?" Si Chen looked at Tong Yao with a surprised expression.

"You don’t know yet?" Seeing his reaction, Tong Yao understood. Si Chen was not very social, so he probably had not heard the news, "There are two spots in your hospital for overseas training and I heard you have a good chance of being selected. Our divorce might be a good thing for you, and you won’t have to worry then."

Si Chen furrowed his brows and only spoke after a long pause. What he said, however, didn’t have much to do with studying abroad. "I don’t want anything. Continue to operate the milk tea shop. Take back the store in Li City, recruit new staff to manage it. Qin Xiaoshuang has worked in the store for two years, she can manage two new staff members."

"..."

Si Chen didn’t want the milk tea shop. Tong Yao expected this, but she didn’t expect Si Chen would suggest that she take back the ownership of the store in Li City from Si Boyi.

Tong Yao was a smart woman, and she quickly figured things out after a moment’s thought.

If Si Boyi and Si Xiaohui lost their source of income, their quality of life would decline, which could lead to them resenting Lin Fengying.

Once Si Boyi’s family had no income, Lin Fengying’s inflated ego would deflate. In addition, since Si Chen didn’t want any assets, the house couldn’t be built. All her previous plans would fall through and Lin Fengying would gradually start to feel the gap and slowly regret forcing her to divorce Si Chen.

This guy was planning to unravel everything slowly.

No wonder he agreed to the divorce so readily. He had already arranged everything behind her back.

She thought again about the overseas opportunity, "If you are really on the list for overseas training, will you go?"

"Yes."

Si Chen nodded, without hesitation and a determined tone. This was quite unexpected for Tong Yao. She thought that Si Chen would say that he couldn’t bear to leave her behind.

Apparently, she thought too much.

"Yaoyao, Doctor Si, why are you both standing here?" Wang Xia and her husband had just reached the stairwell when they saw Tong Yao and Si Chen standing in the hallway. Without much thought, they called out to them from a distance.

The couple approached with a plate of dumplings, "We just finished making these at home and they are still hot. Come inside and eat while they are warm. The weather is getting colder tonight. Eating something warm will help."

"Sister Axia, thank you so much."

Tong Yao and Si Chen took the dumplings and invited them in to rest a while.

"Don’t be so formal. Don’t we all have things that we need help with? We all work at the hospital, it’s only right that we help each other." Once in the ward, Wang Xia’s voice dropped a little."

Her husband also asked Si Chen about Tong Yaohui’s condition, chatted for a bit, and then Wang Xia and her husband returned to the family residence.

They made a pot of dumplings and brought it right over. The couple hadn’t even had dinner yet.

It had been mostly overcast in Kyoto lately. Colder than previous years, and chilling to the bone when outside. If it weren’t for the incident at Tong Yao’s house, Wang Xia wouldn’t have wanted to go out.

Sigh!

Speaking of which, Tong Yao was quite pitiful. She ended up with such an unreasonable mother-in-law and couldn’t even have a decent new year celebration.

When they arrived earlier, they saw Tong Yao and her husband chatting at the stairwell. They were unsure what the young couple had discussed. It’d be a real pity if they got divorced.

*

The weather got colder at night. After a while of sitting still, their toes became painfully frozen. Si Chen glanced at the time. It was already half-past nine at night.

He said, "Mom, Yaoyao, you guys should go back and sleep. I can take care of Dad by myself. You guys can come over in the morning."

Wen Yun shook her head, refusing, "Your father hasn’t woken up yet. I won’t be able to sleep even if I go back. You two should go back and sleep! I’ll stay here and watch him."

Tong Yao said, "I have to stay here and watch. The elders have said that daughters are not as good as sons. I have to take good care of my dad, and show them that daughters are not inferior to sons."

Wen Yun smiled helplessly but felt comforted in her heart. Her daughter had grown up and become sensible, and was becoming more and more considerate of her parents.

Since both didn’t want to leave, Si Chen didn’t persuade them further. There were four beds in the ward. Tong Yaohui occupied one, and the other three were just enough for the three of them to rest.

With their minds occupied, they couldn’t sleep. So Wen Yun took the opportunity to persuade them, "Xiaochen, Yaoyao, you both have a good relationship. I can tell. No one wants things to turn out like this. You can’t just get divorced out of spite. I’m older and I can see things more clearly than you. It is not often in life you meet someone who you mutually love and are compatible with in all aspects. You must cherish this relationship and not leave any regrets for the future."

"Mom, I know all of this." Tong Yao nodded, "Ahchen and I have already discussed it—we’re getting divorced."

Wen Yun was surprised that they had managed to discuss divorce in such a short time, and she looked at Si Chen, "Xiaochen, did you agree?"

Si Chen nodded his head, "Dad can’t get upset right now, he needs to recuperate. Yaoyao and I will divorce by agreement first to stabilize the home and prevent them from making a fuss."

"If your dad wakes up and finds out you’ve divorced because of him, he’ll be heartbroken. You must not be rash." Wen Yun looked at her daughter and son-in-law with sympathy. A perfectly good couple, all ruined by Lin Fengying.

Tong Yao hurriedly explained, "Mom, Ahchen and I separating is only temporary. We’ll divorce in name first, so they’ll have no reason to trouble us. After the divorce, I’ll impose economic sanctions on them, let them experience the hardships of life without money, and they will eventually be subdued."

In plain English, Lin Fengying and Si Xiaohui were living too comfortably now. After tasting the sweetness of a good life following hardships, they’ve lost their heads. As long as she imposed economic sanctions on them, they would no longer be able to put on airs as time went by. 𝓃𝓸𝓋𝓅𝓾𝒷.𝒸ℴ𝓂

It’s easy to go from hardship to comfort, but not everyone can accept going from comfort to hardship.

Wen Yun, having lived for several decades, understood as soon as Tong Yao explained. She felt even sadder for her daughter and son-in-law. That the children could come up with such a plan showed how desperate they have been forced to be.

"As long as both of you have discussed this, don’t end up arguing over these matters."

"Understood."

Si Chen and Tong Yao nodded in unison.
