Chapter 463: Chapter 463: Lin Fengying’s Retribution
Si Boyi didn’t conceal anything, "Xiaohui called this morning and said Mom slipped and hurt her back when she was going down the stairs. She’s having surgery at the hospital. The specific situation isn’t clear yet."
A cold, derisive smile curled up on Tong Yao’s lips. Lin Fengying’s situation seemed so eerily similar to what had happened to her father-in-law, didn’t it?
Was this retribution?
She didn’t want to get involved, but thinking of Si Chen, she agreed and said, "Alright, you should come as soon as you can. I’ll go to the hospital to check on her."
Hearing this, Si Boyi was relieved, "Thank you... I’ll take the evening train and be there by tomorrow morning."
His elder brother is currently abroad and Si Boyi can’t reach him. Xiaohui can’t be relied upon either, so he had to take everything on his own. He was so busy every day that he wished he could split himself in two.
"Sister Yaoyao, why did you agree to go? What if Lin Fengying latches onto you again?" Deng Wenwen was worried for Tong Yao when she heard she had agreed to take care of Lin Fengying. Everyone knew what Lin Fengying was like back then.
Tong Yao’s eyes flashed mischievously. She laughed, "She created so much chaos back then. Now that she’s in this situation, guess who’s the last person she’d want to see?"
"I get it!" Deng Wenwen jumped up excitedly, "Sister Yaoyao, she definitely doesn’t want to see you. Because you’re doing so well now while she’s not."
Tong Yao chuckled, "Exactly, so why wouldn’t I go? If I visit her, I get to show off my benevolence, and also have the pleasure of annoying her."
"Sister Yaoyao, you must go." Deng Wenwen gave Tong Yao an admiring look. She had never admired anyone as much as she admired Tong Yao. She thought Tong Yao was both intelligent and decisive.
She was eager to see Lin Fengying’s reaction. She had no doubt that both Lin Fengying and Si Xiaohui would have priceless expressions upon seeing Sister Yaoyao.
It would definitely be a sight to behold.
"Alright, you watch the shop while I go take a look."
Tong Yao didn’t dilly-dally and rode her bicycle to the hospital. As soon as she arrived at the hospital lobby, she was pulled aside by Nurse Zhou, whom she knew.
"Yaoyao, do you know that Dr Si’s mother is hospitalized after hurting her back?"
"Yes, I know!" Tong Yao nodded and smiled, "I came specifically to see her. Which ward is she in?"
Nurse Zhou opened her eyes wide in surprise, "I heard you divorced Dr Si, why would you come to see his mother?"
Could the news of the divorce be fake?
Everyone in the hospital knew about the fuss Lin Fengying and Lin Man had caused in the residential quarters. It was the talk of the town for over a month.
"Ah Chen is out of the country, her younger son Si Boyi is in our hometown, and her daughter doesn’t have any money. She probably wouldn’t have anyone else to turn to if she didn’t ask for my help." Tong Yao said quietly.
After thinking about it, Nurse Zhou concluded that what Tong Yao said made sense. She added, "Dr Si’s mother’s fall was quite severe. She won’t be able to walk in the future and will have to either stay in bed or use a wheelchair."
Nurse Zhou was more blunt since Si Chen had divorced Tong Yao and was currently not in the country. "Yaoyao, don’t mind my saying so, but it’s best if you steer clear of Lin Fengying now that you’re divorced from Dr Si. Given how she treated you in the past, she deserves her current state. Be careful not to get roped in by her again."
Back when Tong Yao lived in the residential quarters, some people were jealous of her because she was beautiful and capable, while others like Nurse Zhou were well-intentioned. Nurse Zhou was a good person who was genuinely concerned about Tong Yao.
"Thank you." Tong Yao nodded in appreciation. "Don’t worry! I just came to help pay some hospitalizations fees. Her younger son Si Boyi will reimburse me when he arrives."
Only when Tong Yao said this, did Nurse Zhou feel somewhat relieved. She then told Tong Yao the ward number where Lin Fengying was.
After paying two hundred yuan for Lin Fengying’s hospital fees, Tong Yao made her way to the inpatient department.
Lin Fengying had just come around after anesthesia. Si Xiaohui was the only one taking care of her. She was in a four-bed ward, which wasn’t currently full. The only other patients in the room were two elderly people on the other beds.
When Tong Yao arrived at the ward, Si Xiaohui was complaining about the strong, unpleasant smell because there were so many people in the room. When Si Xiaohui saw Tong Yao, she jumped up as if she had seen a ghost.
"What are you doing here?"
Lin Fengying also turned her head and saw Tong Yao. Her already pale face instantly turned dark.
"Boyi called and asked me to help with the hospitalization fee." Tong Yao threw the receipt on the bed and said crisply, "This is the receipt. It’s two hundred yuan in total."
Upon hearing that the hospitalization cost two hundred yuan, Lin Fengying’s felt dizzy and nearly passed out again. Ever since Si Weimin was arrested, she and Si Xiaohui had been living hand to mouth. They had almost sold all of Si Weimin’s valuable possessions.
They’d even had to sell their television and had just scraped by for a while. But now, they were running out of money again. She had found a job washing dishes at a restaurant. But before she had worked for a week, they let her go.
And they hadn’t paid her salary.
They had considered going back to their hometown, but when news that Song Yu had been sold reached there, the Song Family kicked up a fuss. The villagers now viewed them as human traffickers. Even Si Boyi and Zhang Lijuan were implicated and received a lot of disapproving looks. They could imagine the consequences if they went back home.
Lin Fengying did regret her actions, but what good would that do now?
She had initially planned to work again that morning, but she fell as soon as she stepped out the door. Until now, she didn’t even know the extent of her injury.
"Is this daylight robbery?" Si Xiaohui took the receipt and glanced at it, feeling as if her head was about to explode.
Two hundred yuan, which she wouldn’t have paid any attention to in the past, was now far beyond reach – she didn’t even have twenty yuan to her name, let alone two hundred.
Even if her elder brother managed to produce that much money, it would probably drain their family resources.
The entire family had no income currently and her mom had broken her back. She didn’t know how they were going to make ends meet from now on.
Seeing how glamorous Tong Yao looked, Si Xiaohui regretted her past actions. The thing she regretted the most was instigating Tong Yao’s divorce alongside her mother.
If Tong Yao hadn’t divorced her elder brother, he would be responsible for their mother’s hospitalization costs. Tong Yao would also have to give money and help take care of her mother by feeding her and changing her bedpan. Now, Si Xiaohui had to do everything by herself.
With this thought, Si Xiaohui immediately asked, "Can you contact my elder brother? Ask him to send some money as soon as possible. The hospitalization costs have to be shared by my two brothers. My younger brother can’t bear all of it by himself."
"What does your mother’s hospitalization have to do with me? Who are you to order me around?" Tong Yao smirked at Si Xiaohui, "When I was Ah Chen’s wife, I put on a friendly face for you all for his sake. Now that I’m divorced from Ah Chen, how does your mother’s hospitalization or even death concern me?"
Tong Yao didn’t mince words, leaving Si Xiaohui at a loss for words. Tong Yao had come there to give them a hard time and wasn’t going to treat Si Xiaohui nicely.
